Hmm, in our DIY bike repair shop I always tell our visitors that it's crucial to wipe down the chain after greasing it so that it doesn't build up grime and dirt on the drive train to not wear down the drivetrain prematurely. I do this as well for my own bikes.
@Cyclingismywholelife
@Cyclingismywholelife Жыл бұрын
I’m wondering the reason for the heavy oil on the chain is to keep the road salt and sand from having access into small parts of the chain. When I was in the desert we would over grease bearing to keep the sand from reaching the inside of all the inner components.

When there's new technology or something you've never worked on before, how do you learn what best practices are? One reason all my bikes are basically the same is because, FD excepting, I can just about muddle my way through a fair amount of basic maintenance before I pay a mechanic to do the stuff I can't or requires specific tools. Cheers for another interesting video

Yet another great video, I stumbled across a video from the US, similar to yours, but not as good. They had an interesting idea, they put Di2 components in a ziplock bag with a small amount of cleaner, and then added it to the sonic cleaner, for 5 minutes, looked pretty impressive when it came out. Would you ever put disc rotors in the sonic cleaner? Keep up the good work, loving the videos.

I always wash my bike and make sure to grease my chain after every ride. I don't bike in the winter here in the midwest in the US, it's just too cold and the salt on the roads corrodes everything. When something feels off or needs adjusting I pop my bike on my stand and give it a quick adjustment. Last season I started to get a clicking noise that sounds with every pedal stroke, I tightened up everything that I thought it could be but it's still there. Do you have any recommendations?

Funny how you removed a generic chain and installed another non- shimano chain. Use shimano! Also I noticed you kept the shimano 105 level derailleur cables with the blueish tint. If the chain is worn out it’s about time to replace the cables as preventative maintenance with little cost. Your labor out ways the exclusion of replacement of those oversized diameter derailleure cables.

Re: Greasing the brake caliper bolt. For me, it's a little too close to comfort having grease that close to my pads. I would be afraid that if it gets wet, like in the rain, oily/grease could run down to the caliper. Or when I clean my bike, I often spray de-greaser or other cleaners onto my bike, and there may be potential for that grease to run down.

Nice job. I do routine maintenance on my bike but what is the going rate for a service like this? Like ballpark, £100? £200?

What’s the attachment called that you use to torque the pedals?
@Bikespeeds

That’s simply a pedal adapter for the torque wrench🧡⚙️

Do you have a drain in your workshop floor or how do you get rid of the water and soap you use for cleaning the bike?
@Bikespeeds

We actually don’t use as much water as it looks on camera its a strange illusion it gives. Then after that we simply mop up after ourselves 🧡

Out of interest, why do you usually cut the ends off the cables when removing the deraliers?
@Bikespeeds
@Bikespeeds Жыл бұрын
We do this to allow us to take the components off, a lot of ends don’t fit through the components 🧡
