Specialized's new Epic 8 frameset can be bought as a superlight race bike or a lightweight but tough trail bike, but which is the best version for your riding? I've ridden both and run through the key differences here to make sure you get your perfect Epic.

Told my dealer 2 weeks ago I wanted a s-works frameset, lets just hope they are prepared and have some bikes in stock. Dont wanna wait until summer to get one... EDIT: Confirmed, no frames available until june/july... Time to sell some stuff, and get the full bike instead, if its not out of stock already...

The new 2024 Epic 8 is very similar to the old 2023 Epic EVO. The new 2024 Epic 8 Evo pushes the Epic line into the Trailbike category and definitely pushes into Stumpjumper territory. I'm guessing that the next Stumpy will become a 135/150mm travel bike and will eliminate the single pivot flex stay suspension and return to the Horst Link suspension.

That would be the logical move, but it'll be interesting to see how far they push the Stumpjumper into Stumpjumper Evo territory

@@GuyKesTV They could just combine both bikes and make a 140/160mm travel bike. I'm no fan of mid-travel trailbikes. Either go Downcountry or go All-Mountain.

Recently bought the ‘23 epic Evo while it was 40% off. Man, it is a helluva bike. I can’t believe how light and fast it is on climbs and how fun it is going downhill.

Yeah great choice as it's basically just the new Epic without storage and not as long in reach. It's still a benchmark bike though for sure

I could see the epic 8 with a new mattoc up front. Up to 100 grams lighter than the fox 34 and the travel is easily changed between 110-150mm with xc parts everywhere else.

How would you say the geo compares to a downcountry hardtail like the Cotic Solaris/Solaris Max?

It's really hard to compare Hardtail geometry as while it might look similar on paper there's no rear wheel sag / compression. So while front end feel will be similar on flatter/smoother terrain a hardtail will generally feel steeper on steeper descents / rougher terrain

I have a 2022 epic evo pro. Is the new epic a real upgrade or wouldn't I feel the difference? I've heard is way more stable and capable but I fear it is all marketing bull...

Comparing your Epic Evo to new Epic is pretty much like for like in terms of head angle. The reach is longer on the new bike and the seat angle is steeper. It feels a bit sharper through the pedals and stiffer overall too and you’ve got internal storage. It’s heavier though. Comparing your epic Evo to new Epic Evo is basically same as above but with a longer fork, bigger brakes and chunkier tyres. That does make it feel more confident on the trail but it’s a lot heavier as a result. In other words ‘way more’ is definiutely overstating it and you did the right thing buying the 22 Epic Evo not the 22 Epic as that is definitely ‘way less’ capable / stable. Hope that helps

@@GuyKesTV perfect, thank you. And yes, I felt I was "future proofing" by buying the Evo. The launch of Scott Spark, specifically, and the way the XC was getting more aggressive in general, suggested that was the right buy. Guess I'll skip this generation and invest in a second, burlier bike instead of upgrading. Keep up the good work, big fan of your content. Cheers!

So they took the "old" Evo, added a SWAT door and rebranded it as Epic? Then added 10mm extra on the fork and voila - here is the new Evo! The biggest change is the price!

Neither. Just get a Canyon Lux World Cup CFR. So much more value for money. Don't have to pretend that you like the unnecessary electronic components to try and justify the price as well.
