We recently added (3) 1.25" Honey Gouramies in our 75g planted community, and their colors are coming in nicely...unfortunately, we ended up with 3 males. The dark blue/black chest streak seems to come and go depending upon their mood. But overall, they are a great addition to the community tank!

How reliable is it that to try to differentiate between male and female, that the brown line going all the way to the eye indicates a female. Is this accurate?
@fluval
@fluval 4 жыл бұрын
The female has the horizontal stripe yes, although given the domestic breeding reality we mention in the video this can be somewhat variable. In mature specimens the male will always have a more pointed dorsal while the female will be more rounded. The belly of a well conditioned female will be more plump than that of a male as well. There is also the comportment, the male will be somewhat territorial and will usually do the chasing, not the female.

We currently have 1 male honey, 13 kubotai rasbora, 6 kuhli loach, and 6 otocinclus with a smattering of cherry shrimp in a heavily planted flex 32. If i add another male honey would they fight? What if I added 2 or 3 females? Really we are looking for one or two more similar sized fish for this tank.
@fluval

Adding a female would be the best choice! Even in a densely planted Flex 32, keeping multiple males together will result in dominant behaviors and some of the fish potentially being injured.

@fluval
@fluval 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! We aren't aware of a particular, ideal flow rate, although that information may be available online. What's more important is the nature of the flow - avoid strong, direct, localized flow, and opt instead for diffused, gentle flow. You can use a foam pad to help diffuse flow, install a spray bar kit, or direct flow at something to diffuse it!

Treat the fish in a quarantine aquarium, aquarium salt (NaCl) should be effective enough to start with, 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons. You can add a second tablespoon after 3 or 4 days if no improvement is noticed. If there is still no improvement, a mild antibiotic such as erythromycin can be added.
