A magnificent Gilda, capable of both the youthful, bright-eyes romantic coloratura of this aria and the rest of the first act and later the dramatic and mature music of the role later on. Few could do both convincingly. Edda scales back her distinctive, powerful, and energized instrument here to deliver Gilda’s long, yearning phrases with an innocence and sensitivity. The stunning staccati and excellent trills are merely the icing on the cake of a worthy testament to this great lady’s artistry.

Bella voce e perfetta Gilda. Qualcuno l'ha chiamata "la solita Gilda meccanica canaria", il che è un giudizio ingiusto. Edda Moser non era un canarino! È interessante notare che in quest'aria mi ricorda Anna Moffo, anche una adorabile Gilda. Bravissima! Mille grazie per questo tesoro.

This is incredible! Plush and unforced. Staccatos are brilliant but would expect nothing less from the greatest Queen of the Night! Thanks for sharing!

I wait for someone though to scream to me: E6!!!!! not Eb6!!!!! and if indeed there is no E6 (like my pitch analyser showed) - why oh why Mrs Queen of the Night ????

@@Paddy818 yes on the phone, I always wondered if Sutherland's trills are real or just a perfect sound flutter that she had a magical button to push to produce... so I used the analyser on early Sutherland trills... it is AMAZING... you see the two tones rapidly interchanging... it is Uncanny (Voice Pitch Analyser app on Samsung Phone)

I dunno if you accept requests, but I'd love to hear her singing frühlingsstimmen in greater quality. There's an old video here on KZfaq, I believe it is still on 240p, that OMG, if you listen to it even on Siberia I'm sure all the snow will melt down to her voice and flowers will pop up because is just tooooo marvelous 💜

This is excellent and the use of portamento is fantastic. I always, always prefer a fuller voiced Gilda. Otherwise this aria just sounds like a timid lullaby.

but who has sung the E6 in this aria?

@@LohengrinO Leontyne Price sang it on her studio recording of the aria. But I don't like the E6 at the end that much... it takes away from the trill that is written at the end, which to my ears always sounds much more gorgeous than any interpolated high note.

@@jmiller05 I’m with you wholeheartedly. The E6 ending serves to allow canary fanciers an extra opportunity to ooh and aah over meaningless acuti usually sung by someone who has no facility to sing the dramatic aspects of the role later. The customary Eb6 at the end of Si vendetta is more than enough acuti for the evening...

El exceso de reverberación impide apreciar bien la voz de Moser. Pero por lo menos ella no nos ofrece la Gilda canario-mecánico de costumbre.

@@roblessusan19 well Moser is a strange entity... the moment someone mentions her name, endless fans start saying all at once: Queen of the Night Queen of the Night Queen of the Night... so I recently decided to see, did the woman actually sing anything else well besides the f*cking Queenof the Night... I think she did
