Rio Xingu - the river of rapids, famous for incredible fish diversity, with over 60 endemic fish species, and more than 550 fish species in total.
Part 1: • Rio Xingu Book Release...
The Xingu is one of the principal tributaries of the Brazilian Amazon, dewatering the Brazilian Shield northward. A river of rocks, rapids, crystal clear headwater tributaries, surreal underwater landscapes, and colourful fishes adapted to live in the fastest moving water. At the same time, it is an incredibly fragile ecosystem that faces threats from gold mining, deforestation, industrial agriculture and one of the world’s largest hydroelectric projects.
Rather than writing a book about fish, Oliver Lucanus and Dr. Leandro Sousa, along with a team of experts, have created an intricate portrait of one of the Amazon’s most complex ecosystems. For the first time, a book provides insight into the hidden world below the surface of the Xingu, revealing the fascinating adaptations and behaviour of the Xingu’s fishes. Through the eyes of the two authors who have spent hundreds of hours snorkeling and diving in the river, the reader will journey upstream into the habitats of a diverse fish community in one of the most threatened and stunningly beautiful places in the world. 215 fish species shown in their natural habitat, 348 pages, 530 photographs. 28x28 cm

you will usually catch 4-5 species in the same place. There are manueli, rhombeus, denticulata all in that area. It would not surprise me to find others as well. Piranhas are shy fish in general and sometimes difficult to approach under water.

@belowwater

No, nobody would buy them (had them here several times), the fish is really only nice in mating colour, otherwise it just looks like any other Lugubria and certainly not worth the price.

At 3 minutes you mentioned a palm tree that grows with its trunk and Roots submerged, is that the only Palm you're aware of? Thought most of them needed a period of dryness as opposed to Bald Cypress which grow their knuckles in the Florida south but up here in the north where they are still hardy they do not make the growth forms that you see in the Southern swamp, two different type of trees of course monocots and dicots
@belowwater
@belowwater 4 ай бұрын
with palm trees i am way out of my expertise. the Buritî (Mauritia flexuosa) or in Spanish countries Moriche palm is always growing in these wet places, they would be wet year around.
