The 90's Spiderman series is just great. So many classic moments. There are some truly great emotional arcs in the show and some really fun action scenes.

this isn't as simple as Nostalgia vs new Quality... it's a top Quality Nostalgia show vs Top Quality New show... i wish both series had a proper ending tho.

Grew up with both ( I think they aired Spiderman the animated series on Jetix). I think for the better story and show, Spectacular Spiderman. But for nostalgia, Spiderman the animated series.

Spectacular Spiderman is amazing but yeah Spiderman TAS had such amazing character work and complex stories. I highly recommend checking out Ultimate Spiderman. I actually like it better than Spectacular Spiderman. The side characters are well fleshed out and it really shows Peter's willingness to look for the best in people, that they're not black and white that someone another perceives as a "bad guy" he'd recognize that as a struggling teenager.

I was very young kid when I watched Spiderman the Animated Series call in for the longest time it was one of my favorite superhero shows right up there with the X-Men and Batman, I had never even watched Spectacular Spider-Man until I was already 22 years old back in 2012, I had always stuck my nose up at this show because I didn't like the Disney Channel animation they were going for, but I can tell you now that now that I've watched the entire series I have to say it is the superior show. I love it so much that I bought the entire series on Blu-ray

90s Spidey is the definitive. Amazing catchy soundtrack, great iconic voice acting for everybody. Awesome detailed animation. Some episodes things can get really intense, like the venom/Man-Spider arc. Plus I just like my Spider-Man looking like a *MAN* not spiderboy.

I love them both. Both have great story builds. The 2 things that just erk me about the 90's series is that 1- there is never any punching/fist fights. They always just wrestle around and toss each other into a wall or something. A kick is implied by the foot going into camera and the other falls back. 2- no real guns. Even the cops have lazer guns which will blow a wall to peices but just knock Spidey back. Blade didnt have an actual sword but a Thundar the Barbarrian energy sword. A kajillion explosions, walls and buildings crashing down but not one conventional gun. But whatever, I'll always enjoy any Spidey adventures.

As a Spider-Man fan, Spectacular Spider-Man probably does more justice to the character and is somewhat more faithful. However, as a Marvel fan, Spider-Man the Animated Series is an extremely fun show, with more memorable takes on the characters. It felt more like comic book brought to life. For example, Eddie Brock was an extremely more layered character in Spectacular Spider-Man, but I remembered him as Venom in Spider-Man: The Animated Series much more. Overall, I prefer Spider-Man: The Animated Series. However, Spectacular Spider-Man comes very close.

What I think Spectacular Spider-Man did best: -Animation -Art style (At least when viewed in HD) -Maturity -Character development (Peter really never changed in TAS) -Writing -Pacing -Voice acting -Music (not just the theme) -Lack of censorship What I think TAS did best: -It had crossovers -It had 65 episodes (compared to Spectacular's 26) To me at least, it's like comparing Supernatural to Firefly. Supernatural is a long ass show with a ton of episodes, but Firefly managed to become a legendary tv show with just one season and a film. I enjoy both Supernatural and TAS, but more times than not I'll choose quality over quantity.

Spectacular had great animation and character concepts but The Animated Series had more story dept and continuity and I found Peter Parker more relatable.

Spider-Man 1994 is best for me, because that’s the one I grew up with, this coming from a kid who grew up in the mid-late 2000s. I just have a lot more nostalgia for me, and I prefer the more proportioned art style.

I didn't get to watch Spectacular Spider-Man, I grew up on the Animated Series as a young kid in the 90s.

I didn’t like how deep Green Goblins voice was in Spectacular. He had the perfect voice in the 90s animated series. I also prefer Chris Barnes over Josh Keaton as Spider-Man.

I never watched all of Spectacular Spiderman. I watched TAS all the way through several times. I was a kid in the 90s and I acknowledge that i'm bias. But everything Walter complimented about tas was what I always praised the show for. TAS gave us a lot Spectacular didn't. TAS gave us Carnage (and Spider-Carnage), it gave us Man-Spider, it gave us crossover, it even gave us characters who weren't in cartoons at the time like Puniaher and Daredevil. We got Morbius, Mark Hamil as the Hobgoblin, Hank Azaria from the Simpsons as Eddie Brock/ Venom. And maybe most memorable of all, it gave us that awesome rock version theme song by Aerosmiths Joe Perry as opposed to the bland generic Spectacular Spiderman theme. Now again I'm bias and I'll admit it. If i had been a kid when Spectacular Spiderman came out then TAS might feel like Voltron and Thundercats have always felt to me (old and before my time). But it's still an awesomely show I'll defend to the end!

Nice breakdown, Walter. I may disagree on some points, but I appreciate how you back up your opinion without trying to shout down or ridicule the other side. We need more of that. I grew up with TAS like you did, and I loved it. While it hasn't aged well in a few areas, it definitely laid some groundwork not only for Spidey on the big screen, but also the crossover storytelling that has defined the MCU. However, the animation quality bugs me (there's some very visible rush jobs and errors,) and some of the acting and dialogue can get very stilted. And the animation/music reuse is a bit annoying after awhile. Still, it was a big part of my childhood as well. While some aesthetic choices in Spectacular are a bit unsophisticated, the budget that went into action was well spent. No Spidey show moved like it, and some sequences outshine some stunts in the movies. The cast is excellent, as is the character work,(this is still my favorite animated Aunt May, and this show laid the track for Gwen Stacy's return to relevance.) Much as I love Christopher Daniel Barnes, Josh Keaton killed it as Peter Parker, and may only have been surpassed by Yuri Lowenthal in the Insomniac game. I wish it had gotten more seasons, but if you look at how many elements have carried on from this show into other versions, especially the MCU, I think its impact can't be denied. I like them both, but Spectacular takes the cake for me.

Commenting before I finished this to get this out of the way before I see the results. I’ve been watching both so far but I did grow up with spectacular and was surprised how much of it I remembered on my rewatch and tbh while I’m liking the 90s show I do like spectacular more though to be fair I did only just finish season 1 of the 90s spider-man. Let’s see if the results match my opinion or if it’s different and if so if my opinion will change after watching both this vid and the show proper.

Both shows are great to watch. But I do prefer spectacular spiderman since I like the pacing and storytelling more I really wanted a third season and the 90s series is the second best spiderman series as it is an enjoyable show to have fun with it since you see team ups and awesome episodes and it's a long series but worth watching it if your a spiderman fan

I enjoyed both TAS, and Spectacular Spiderman, I wish both didn't end on a cliffhanger. However my favorite that ended on a huge cliffhanger was Spiderman Unlimited, that was a real crime to end that show so quickly. It wouldn't fly now it was to mature to keep on tv back then.

90s Spider-Man is in my opinion the best Spider-Man show. I think it has a fairly good continuity for its time. I think the art style in Spectacular is horrendous. It definitely is no where near the quality of Batman tas (like you said).

While I admit TAS did highlight other Marvel heroes I never heard of (wasn't into comicbooks back then) like Dare Devil and Dr Strange etc but Sepctacular get my vote on the best Spidy cartoon show! TAS felt abit a product of its time due to the used of CGI and the censorship like the "Insidious" Six cos they felt Sinister was too dark or how Morbius want "plamas" instead of blood! Heck the origin to JJ Jamason hated for masked vigilante was his wife was murder by a mask guy while in the cartoon, she was simply kidnapped and to never appear again! Also due to legal stuff, we never got Sandman! I haven't even mention the animation back then! I liked Spectular new take on the franchise and aswell a few good twist like Eddie was Peter friend and Gwen was still alived (would they had killed her off like in the comic?).

Spectacular Spider-Man is the superior show, and this is coming from someone who grew up watching the 90s cartoon, which, while better than NO Spider-Man Cartoon, had numerous glaring flaws that I noticed even as a kid (way too much recycling of scenes even when the backgrounds were inconsistent, the overwrought soap opera love stories, even for characters where it didn’t make sense).

SPECTACULAR SPIDER-man is my favorite animated series OF ALL TIME!! So MAD RESPECT GUBS truly the best Spidey series Im a 90s kid and I wll always tell you SPECTACULAR SPIDERMAN IS THE GREATEST SPIDER-MAN SERIES EVER! I was skeptical at first because of the character designs but that series is my favorite animated show of all time. I'm SO SALTY we never got a season 3 because I really wanted to see Eddie and Pete who were like Brothers in the show before Eddie got made and became Venom to rekindle that bond they had and then team up to fight Carnage in S3 and squashing their bro beef. We even saw Kasady cameo in S2 and that made me SO UPSET at the conclusion we never got! Love this series rewatch it constantly. The 90s one is fun for nostalgia but after rewatching it recently as an adult it has not aged well, theres lots of corny lines and reused animation, also Spidey only throws A TOTAL of 2 punches the entire series in 65 eps. I watched it literally last month and counted. Fun for nostalgia but doesnt hold up that well.

I don't necessarily know which is the better series. They were both very well-written, but the animated series from the 90s is part of the fabric of the memories of my childhood, answer that I owe my first two action figures. The 90's series had to be very compelling in order for that to happen, so I guess I'll give my vote to that one.

I was like you Walter, when I was young, I used to be much more into the Spider-Man cartoon than X-Men. They used to air back to back and were reruns (this was around 2002/2003). I related to the character, and loved imagining being him. I even tied my dressing gown rope to a pole in my bedroom, and swung from it. I adored the 90's show as a kid, it seemed epic. However, when Spectacular came along a few years later, and I saw "Group Therapy", where Spider-Man defeats the Sinister Six asleep in the black suit, it became the definitive Spider-Man show for me and I developed blind love for it. I was heartbroken when I heard it was cancelled, and would always adamantly defend it as the best Spider-Man show, and one of the best superhero shows period. I'm older and more rational now, but I still think Spectacular is the best. The show had excellent animation, fights, humour, character work, mythology, and of course, an excellent theme song. The 90's show had high highs and low lows - While Spider-Man was always fantastic character wise, the stories were always wonderfully imaginative and engaging, the plot development was strong, the art style was beautiful, and the mythology was rich, there's re-used footage throughout, a lot of it is well done, but some of it is bad. The strict censorship does affect some of the action, and there's some corny writing from time to time e.g. MJ jumps from a building so that Peter saves her as Spider-Man, in order to truly prove his love. The pacing does get very fast sometimes too, making you feel like you need a breather. There were also some plot holes, such as J. Jonah Jameson's reason for hating Spider-Man being that he hates masked men, as one murdered his wife, yet supporting Mysterio when he was seemingly a hero, and the Kingpin breaking out of shackles that hold the Rhino. I don't feel quantity equals quality in any way, Spectacular was consistently high quality, and the 90's show, while definitely a worthwhile journey, was quite a mixed bag. I'd argue Spectacular does rival Batman: TAS too. I like that Spectacular's art style gives it its own unique identity, and don't mind it, but would prefer a more realistic and detailed one. However, you said Batman: TAS hit it out of the park on all points. I don't agree with that, the show had ups and downs in its animation quality, as it was outsourced to different animation studios, which is a rarity. On occasion, the animation was poor, and AKOM (the studio producing the worst work) was actually, eventually fired due to the quality of their animation. Also, although you say Spectacular was quite mature, and I agree that it was in terms of subject matter, it did have a lighthearted, playful tone, aiming to be fun, while the 90's show aimed to be dramatic. I think Spectacular's quite childish art style fit better than you do as a result.

Ultimate Spider-Man was alright until Season 3 happened

STAS is great, easily the second best interpretation of the web head in media, but the key word is second. I'm not one to get mad at some animations inconsistencies, outdated CGI if the story's good, but even some villains were weaker from the writing perspective. Even tho I love the artstyle of this show, especially Venom's design, they fucking killed it, I think character wise, Eddie comes off as much more of a douchebag whilst Eddie in Spectacular was so mellow, chill and genuinely seemed friendly, plus his motivation makes 100% sense and you also kind of feel bad for the guy, but not in a way where Peter came off as a bad guy. Goblin is also a massive improvement in Spectacular. In STAS, he's just a shitty, egoistical wacko, but in Spectacular, he's better than ever. He had so much subtlety cuz he was masking his real self so heavily while in the business suit as Norman, but you can still see a little bit of his true personality in there. He always had viewers on the edge of their seats because this version is so smart, he was able to outsmart Tombstone, Silvermaine and Dock Ock into becoming the big man of crime and it took 2 whole seasons for Peter to figure out who he really was. He had so many little traps and mind games presented to Peter, it actually made him really threatening. I love both shows, but when you compare the black symbiote arc of both shows, it becomes clear as day which one is more streamlined, organized, consistent and just perfect. SSM follows one overarching plot with Peter's episodic problems, whether they're teenage problems or supervillain problems. It's cancellation is one of the biggest tragedies to super hero genre

Sorry but I prefer Quality over Quantity and Spectacular Spider-Man? That’s the greatest quality there is for a Spider-Man cartoon. The style may have taken getting used to but it’s simplicity brought with the ability to have great action scenes. Don’t get me wrong the animated series was great. It really was but it is really dated at this point. Also I honestly barely remember any of the regular human supporting characters. Most just don’t stick out to me much. Spectacular Spider-Man really was just special. The animated series may have much more episodes, but Spectacular literally never fails to entertain unlike some of the animated series moments.

I think both series are good in their own ways, but I’d have to choose Spectacular for this one. Also, while I like Chris Barnes' Spider-Man, Josh Keaton is still my top one. Plus most of the voice actors of Spectacular did better.

Ik nerds and geeks have their opinions but honestly the spectacular spider-man is a joke compared to the 94 amazing spider-man spectacular is great but not nearly as great as the 94 version and yeah you can get used to the show spectacular spider-man but what's obvious is obvious the animation sucks the story is kinda weak and the theme song is overated overall I prefer the 94 version it's way more consistent and truly represented the amazing spiderman not the amazing spiderboy

Also a slight counter point to your comment at the ending, where you say that Spectacular isn't on the same level as BTAS. I disagree with the statement that BTAS nailed everything. Artstyle was great, but the animation wasn't really, animation was heavily limited and kind of choppy. Even tho majority of characters were great, they were served in an episodic fashion while SSM tied everyone together in a beautiful way. I mean Two-Face has a great origins two parter, but then he rarely does anything noteworthy. Joker has so many classic episodes, but he serves as an episodic threat, the only time he truly impacted Batman was in Batman Beyond, but that's a separate show. Obviously if you want to compare the whole DCAU to SSM, SSM loses, but BTAS vs SSM individually, I think SSM was way more consistent. If the show wasn't cancelled, I think it would've easily been better, because in all 26 episodes, Spectacular doesn't have a single bad episode. The worst one is the Kraven episode and even that one is way above watchable. BTAS had some genuinely cringe worthy episodes like: The Cat and the Claw Part II, I've Got Batman in My Basement, Prophecy of Doom, Moon of the Wolf, Harley and Ivy, Sideshow etc. It's still a great show, but people just seem to remember the great episodes and completely forget about those dreadful ones. SSM is handicapped cuz it's so short, but Greg had everything planned out, if it was continued, it would undoubtedly in my mind be better 100%

Spectacular Spiderman artwork is trash. Not only is the artwork shitty, it changes core elements of the characters. Eddie Brock and Peter Parker are not childhood friends. It's stupid to change the origins of the characters this way. 90's Spiderman is way better. The artwork is far better and the story stays more true the comics. Xmen, Ironman, Captain America, Blade, Daredevil, The Punisher, all making cameos was awesome too. You can't compare them. 90s Spiderman is way better than this disney cartoon lookin crap

Spectacular Spider-Man in my personal opinion is the most definitive Spider-Man series because it's actually close to what a Spider-Man series would be like if Bruce Timm was involve in one. Also unlike Spider-Man TAS Spactacular has Peter in high school, Sandman is actually in it (Not Hydro-Man), Electro's origin is spot on (Is not Red Skull's son), Felica Hardy is already Black Cat and a thief (Doesn't have powers or a superhero in training) and finally... The action & fight scenes were intense & fast pace (Not slow & choppy). I think that sums it up!

I was a hardcore FOX Kids viewer back in the early 90'. That being said, Spectacular Spider-Man is superior in every way except one: the voice cast. Not the voice acting itself, which is borderline Alvin & the Chipmunks rushed. But actors like Mark Hamill and Ed Asner are unmatched in their talent.
