Very cool, pedal indeed. this is definitely one of my favorite videos just because of number one, the editing is fine and number two, it’s a great sounding pedal and your plane has improved to the point that you can get the sound across so people can understand truly. I've been eye balling this for awhile... Agree with Ola's comment, you're definately improving on Guit - I'd love to one day (when disposable income is a thing and all current gear is paid off) get a Chug as well as a Solar Guitar. :) All the best you lovely people.

I am using old solid state randall amps into a two notes torpedo captor. I primarily use their v30 cab or Ola’s Jaguar impulse response. This pedal would provide the much needed modern flavor that the older amps lack and I definitely would benefit from having it as a tool in my arsenal. Great video Glenn.

Currently using an amp sim (apartment living) and this Chug pedal has certainly caught my interest! Splitting the gain like that got a sound that I'd really like to tweak and experiment with for extended range and drop tunings. I'm certainly going to replay this video back a few times this evening and see if I can recreate something close to the bite this thing can chuck out. (and huge shout out for showing the mistakes and calling it out - I wish more people left the mistakes in on guitar videos)

I like the Chug a lot, but I have to admit...I like the Gehenna much more due to how tweakable it is. It's a killer pre-amp as well.

Have you seen Lee Sklars “ Producer Switch “ ????? It’s a switch on his Bass that’s hooked up to nothing and when ever a producer told him he didn’t like his tone he made sure to hit the “ switch “ change hand positions and carry on .😅

I’m currently recording through a boss katana into a computer. I really think the Chugg pedal would suite my needs, as I am in an apartment. Needless to say I am constantly on the search for compact sources of good metal tone. Thanks for the great review!

To answer your question when I do record guitar (I mainly produce grime and Drum and Bass so this isn't often) I have used both software and recorded from my amplifier (a blackstar HT5 Metal). I use logics built in amps most of the time, I have used the amp sim you mentioned previously that is free but it is quite unstable on my machine, a M1 pro MBP. For some reason I have to try and load it about 3 times before it works, the first two times it will just not load properly. So a mixture of both a real tube amp and software straight to my DAW.

I record right to desktop, but I like to run my signal out through hardware fx chain and back in (just my set up, useful if you use software instruments too so the recorded track is an actual audio signal, if you like that sort of thing; tip from Ken Marshall). The Chug chugs! Nice work, Ola!!!

Going through a tube amp and have been experimenting with different preamp pedals through the fx loop, well that was before I just had a baby boy. The pedal mo ey has become diaper money 😆😆. After this review, I hope to add this flavor to the rig someday. Great video, Glenn!

I'm using a hybrid approach, very similar to your setup with the Chug pedal. I've got my Marshall JMP-1 with a TC Electronic G-Force in the FX loop plugged into my audio interface, which is then going through a tube power amp simulation and an IR loader. Best of both worlds IMO, you've got an actual piece of gear, and you can play it though your headphones without bothering your neighbors.

Since years/ages I no more own guitar amps! Instead I use an AMT SS20 Valve preamp, which as an output with an analog cabinet emulation. It does the job perfectly for my needs. 3 channel (clean, crunch and lead), super simple but effective.

@@killertom8261 And here we are! You know, that was by far not the most brutal and powerful recording/mix. But it kicked ass. I had an Onkyo Receiver at that time with good loudspeakers. It enhanced almost every bad recording. This was at best amateur level compared to today's mixes. But the playing/feel/songwriting made the difference. I remember when it was released I thought the sound was massive. But it isn't, actually.

I record straight to desktop. A pedal like the Chug would suit my workflow pretty well. Even if I plan to re-amp and split the signal, I could record both, what I hear and a pure DI signal. Big advantage of such a pedal: You can record with whatever latency if you have a direct monitoring possibility in your interface, which I have (e.g. the small Focusrite, the small Behringer competitor, and probably many others), with this kind of simple setup. You just need a signal splitter or DI box and such a pedal. Totally sufficient for recording. Actually, this is also in principle the home recording setup of Misha Mansoor. So we can say it once again: "But Periphery did it!?!!"

Hey Glenn, love your channel. I have to ask though, your new IR loader has a tube power section emulator. You've shown how tubes make no difference to tone, so I gather it just emulates the sound of a tube amp vs solid state and not the difference between different tubes? I look forward to the IR loader, I am loving the celestion V30 IR's you gave away. Keep doing what you do, when there is a new video from you I watch straight away.

I was supposed to bye a Chug-pedal at christmas but the shipment was in 8+ weeks at Thomann so I went to a "what-should-I-do"-site and that told me to bye something else. I bought a Harley Benton Victory ABK just because you made it look great. So if you are going to have a giveaway you practically owe me a Chug-pedal. Kind of... :) Anyway, great job helping other guitarnerds finding the best ways to the perfect sound.

I am recording straight into the desktop. We are using Protools for now. Although we are using simulators, that chug pedal by Ola/Solar Guitars would come in very handy when we're playing live and recording.

I’m recording direct. Never could afford a tube amp unfortunately (fixed income). I have a Spark which I don’t dare to record with and could do use a pedal like this! Anyway, the Chug sounds fantastic for this sort of application. I especially like the low/high gain knob function. Being able to take out the fizz without needing to high cut sounds awesome.

Watching all the mistakes playing makes me appreciate these videos so much more, also a good laugh because I can really relate to that. What would you think about doing a comparison between bolt on, set and neck thru guitars? I'm curious how badly I'm probably going to get proven wrong for not liking bolt on necks much.

I record guitar from my room at home. Can't afford to buy my dream amps with my minimum wage job, but I'm really happy with the tones I'm able to get with some of the amp simulators that have been coming out recently. I've got an entire folder of IR's that I like on my desktop (some even made to replicate some of my dream amps). I recently bought an overdrive and a compressor pedal so that my amp simulator doesn't have to do all the heavy lifting, and I can tweak my sound to something that can't quite be recreated with a simple preset. I think the CHUG pedal would be an absolutely kickass and helpful addition to my rig, virtually eliminating the need for a virtual amp. Just my pedals and a cab sim! This is sweet Glenn. $199 is a good price. I use AmpliTube 5 and I have tried to dial in a good metal sound. Your IR works great, but selecting an amp and affects to go with it is can get a little overwhelming. I have some custom mods saved, but nothing that sounds like the Chug. So much for saving money when you bring something like the Chug on the table lol.

Newbie question here... I cannot seem to achieve the very dark , bassy Chugg using my Boss Katana MKII-100. Would this pedal remedy that going thru that Amp. or is it redundancy? My Guitar is a $400 Jackson JS32Q DKA, with stock pickups, maybe switch to darker pickups? Any suggestions would be appreciated...

I use the Fractal FM3 for recording, which I am very happy with, but having so much options and features can sometimes lead to constant tweaking tones, having a preamp pedal/distortion box that can nail a good high gain straight out of the box is very convenient. Set it and forget it.. is what I go for now a days..

Morning😂 I like the Chug…got it as a Xmas present from my Girlfriend. I use it daily as an amp for practicing into a Seymour Duncan Powerstage and then the Harley Benton 2x12 v30 cab. Tight Setup and I dont need to run the tubeamp for short amounts of time
