We’ve been using a Roku ever since 2015 when we cut the cord for all the reasons you mentioned. We researched and checked reviews back then and decided Roku was the way to go. We are 65+ and ease of use is very important to us. We have no desire to change streaming devices.

Some one is constantly sending me emails saying that my Netflix payment has been declined and my service will be interrupted if I don't get in contact with them right now. Scammers are sooo dumb.

Yeah, but those a$$holes are targeting that elderly person who may not understand and think they are legitimate. All they have to do is scam one or two out of all the thousands of messages they send out and they make money.

I get spam phone calls and emails every day. It's annoying. How hard would it be for phone companies to shut down the spammers? A company makes tens of thousands of calls a day with most lasting a few seconds? There's money in it for the smaller phone companies so the spam keeps coming. I hope their CEOs get their share of spam, too.

I can't stand Fire TV. The interface is too clumsy. I much prefer ROKU. Absolutely love the interface and its well organized.

I do think the Fire interface is very nice looking...but navigating is a royal PIA. And it seems to be getting worse. I have Roku's, Fire, a couple of Onn Google TV streamers ( those are actually quite nice) but don't plan on buying anymore Fire Sticks regardless of the price. Even the fairly new ones are now painfully slow. My very old Roku's are still pretty snappy.

We have the new fire sticks and it's never been slow for us. And the interface isn't bad at all. We had the complete opposite experience with Roku, finding it slow and we had the newer 4k ones. Roku had an ok interface but nothing outstanding.

@@OnePunchLion The newest fire Sticks got a bump in performance. But the Fire Stick I bought last year just wasn't cutting the mustard. Just a standard model, but still in production to this day. Slow, complained about out of memory after maybe 4-5 apps were loaded. And it wasn't just me noticing the issues, wife gave up using it. I notice the same on other somewhat older (but not real old) Fire Sticks. The CPU is probably fine, but the memory is probably on the lean side, with the Fire OS taking a big chunk of it. This is after I even uninstalled some preinstalled apps.

Spectrum in my area is a monopoly. $91.99 a month just for internet is stupid. We need more choices for TV and internet.

It depends how large your city or town is. If your town is smaller with like 200-250k citizens, it becomes a 'natural monopoly'. Meaning that according to the amount of people, no other services are needed in the area. Whether it's utility corporations, or cable corporations. Look into it.

Spectrum may have laid off 1000 service employees, yet still has money to send out mailers several times a week to myself and everyone else. Perhaps they should look to their advertising department and get people who know what they are doing. Signed - a happy FiOS customer (Internet only). 😛

The best thing about my Roku player is the earphone jack. Whether laying in bed or riding my exercise bike I can still watch (and hear) my tv.

The ROKU phone apps are a life saver, especially when my physical remote got chewed up by my new pup. One thing that's been bugging me is that I wish I could send the output audio directly from the Roku sticks straight to a sound bar using Bluetooth. 🥺☹️😭 🤞🏻 hoping that that capability finds itself in the list in the near future.

Roku has the benefit of over 10 years of user interface development. It's easy and it's SOLID. It freezes or glitches next to never. I've been using them for 12 years. My Google TV interface is a janky mess that freezes, fails to load channels, and reboots. I just turn on the TV and immediately change the source.

I purchased my first Roku player when it was introduced in 2008. (Model DVP N1000) User ever since. Gone through several models. I like the fact the the UI and remote have basically stayed the same through the years.

Hi! Haven't posted in a very long time. I'm the computer club instructor in FL who asked for permission to use your stuff in my class a number of years back. We had a lot of people interested in your site's info guess you got quite a few viewers from our group. Anyway, we ran a class on using Roku vs Firestick. Roku won in attendance and interest hands down.

I feel for these people that lost their jobs and hope they all land on their feet. I'll be honest, I am a Spectrum customer and am still quite content. However, I live in a more rural area and it is the primary ISP. Last called their Customer Service about a month and the rep was real good to me, and gave me a hell of a good deal on my Internet/TV stream bundle. Could it have been a plea to ensure I stay? Sure, but I work from home full time and (Knock on wood) have no issues.

I've been on Spectrum internet for two years, no issues with it. The service guy who installed the cable and did the set-up mentioned it might be glitchy the first month due to software updates (it was), but after that it should work fine (it has). I compared costs to others and its about equal, interesting is the T-Mobile and Verizon 5G internet systems are both 'impacted' in my area and not accepting new customers right now.

I'm someone who prefers speaking to a customer service person at Spectrum. I hope the wait time doesn't go up. In the past, it's usually been relatively quick to get someone, at least in South Texas.

Love my Roku interface compared to the Firestick or Fire Tvs I have in my house. I have a Roku hooked up to each TV, since I like how much easier it is to use and it never tells me that it has no space for my apps like my Fire TV does.

Luke I am the direct opposite. I prefer speaking to an agent over chat. First no context in text. Most problems are a little more in depth than a chat. AI is not ready at all not even close. I deal with Xfinity and they make it so hard to talk to a person. You have to accept the text message they send you. Now you have to figure out the path to an operator. question 1 choose Internet Phone Billing etc... And if you deviate in any way it starts everything all over again. Companies will no longer speak to you without first making you jump through hoops. It's very complicated. They the Companies cut their workforce and soon we will never have any human connection with the Business Sector. It will soon be take it or leave it. The rich get richer.

Trying to get MeTV Toons in north central Indiana. Where I live I can get all the regular channels out of Indianapolis, most of the South Bend channels as well as the Lafayette station. The MeTV Toons site says it is on the air out of Indianapolis on 28.7. It isn’t showing up on a channel scan, and I can’t even go to it by direct channel enter. Guessing it must be a local low power channel, so if your out of the Indy metro area, you’re SOL.

Will not chat with Spectrum again. The “Chat” linked me with a technician who charged me $199 to repair my e-mail issues. A month later he harassed me to spend $1800 to keep my computer working. He got into my computer and dumped my files and iCloud pictures! For over a month he called five to ten times a day. He lied about being in Pennsylvania, was actually in India. I finally outsmarted him, but it was traumatic.

I agree with you on the Roku. I find that Roku is just so easy to use in the app availability. I do have a Amazon fire but it just felt like it was a learning curve. So I have more favorable experience with Roku

I'm a spectrum customer and I've always called their customer service line regarding any issues. I find their customer service line to be very efficient, and I'm not a fan of the chat option on their website I don't find it to be as effective. In regard to employee layoffs, I hope this doesn't mean the end of tv cable service, because I grew up with their tv service since the 1980's and I'm not a big fan of streaming for my main source of tv viewing.

My tv has Roku for the user interface, but we rarely use it. Mostly watch over the air broadcast and occasionally use Apple TV for streaming. Roku seems to buffer occasionally, Apple TV doesn’t seem to.

On the guide providers. Non of my guide data for me tv toons have been updated yet. TiVo channel list hasn't corrected. I thought the guide data would be updated yesterday for the channel change. ota channel names updated yesterday.

I was a spectrum tech for 20 years got warned for not wearing gloves .(Gloves) As the company was in ,first of a class action labor law suit started by 12 techs in my state, which then grew to ALL STATES 28000 past and present techs which THE EMPLOYEES WON!!!!! 28 million cash and 50 million in monthly service so after the warn I joined glad I did after I got my distribution they let me go for that earning ( just turned 55 and had 6 weeks vacation pending) $$$$$ YAHOOOO THE STRESS WEENT AWAY

They're right. Roku is the simplest, and that's what people want. Be easy to use and don't be obnoxious with advertising. Roku does this at a competitive price. Even their lowest end players work well and aer fast enough to not be annoying.

I've been using a Roku for 20 years. They are trouble free and relatively cheap. Plenty of content. Somewhat annoying pushing icons for stuff I didn't ask for. Wish I could clear my screen and see only what I like.

I like Roku been using them for years. They are easy straight forward. The only thing I wish Roku would do is add a setting so I could connect my Bose System to control the volume up and down.

QUESTION FOR LUKE Maybe you could start a mini series on your daily videos telling us where to find some of the more unusual channels typically on cable can be found on streaming. I was paying over $200 a month for basic cable and internet from Spectrum but that did not include Turner Classic Movies (which I think should be on every basic cable system) and used to be on basic cable in the early days. But now I am in streaming is there any streamers that actually stream the channel.

Luke, question for you... I am purchasing an AppleTV 4K 128GB with Ethernet streaming box to go with my soon to be 1,000GB fiber optic provider. 2023 4K TCL TV and Samsung soundbar with Atmos. Can you explain why a wired Ethernet hook up between the router and streaming box would be a good thing? Or not a good thing? Thanks! I don't fully understand HDMI vs. Ethernet with this hook up. Is the difference noticeable?

Lower end fire TV sticks are really sluggish after a while. Even the 4K max. They’re also bloated with ads now. Roku is better but heading the same direction with ads. Apple TV is definitely the most powerful device but people get scared away because they think they need an iPhone to use it. Of course the price point is not helpful either. But it is definitely the best in the market.

We have Spectrum and at the end of the year our promotional rate will end. It is going to be a hassle to cancel. They called the other day saying they will accept a $600 payment now and that would cover the rest of the year. Yes, that would be a savings but no. Sounds like a company that won't be around long term.

Luke, I hope Roku keep it up cuz I used to have a fire stick I didn't care for it because the fire stick did not have any free stuff on it what. Roku is the best if you want to save money or they live on a fixed income

Phone systems are usually crap, as it is difficult to navigate in order to speak to someone. If I wanted to pay my bill, etc., I would go online. If I am calling in, I want to speak to someone and not navigate a phone menu!

I had Firesticks, a FireTV and a Recast. One of the sticks died. The TV stopped working properly and the recast died. I replaced the sticks with ROKU's, the TV with a Vizeo and a ROKU and replaced the recast with a Tablo.

Nothing to worry about with Spectrum, before AI takes it all over (which is only a couple of years away) there are plenty of overseas agents that get paid next-to-nothing that will take your call. They will have a limited command of the english language but that doesn't matter because they will have very limited ability to help/solve problems. I am making these assumptions because that is precisely what is going on with Comcast and usually, where one goes the other follows. They are, after all partners in many things anyway.

Question for Luke what do you think about Amazon adding continue watching for Hulu Disney Plus peacock and a few others to the continue watch history on the Amazon fire TV home screen there's people making videos on it saying they don't like it because they don't like Amazon tracking what they watch but all it is is a continue watch history and it makes it easier to continue watching where you left off

People are too paranoid. They are watching their programs on a device that can already track what they are watching if it wants. They think adding a watch history is going to somehow enable Amazon to "see" what they are watching? The only way to keep any company from seeing what your watching is to not use their device.

I have roku and rarely use it, I use a apple tv Roku upset me that they didn't have blue tooth for so long, apple tv I can air play from my iPhone or Ipad, Apple TV is far superior to Roku
