EXCELLENT knowledge about root cause of speech problem. Dr whenever I give high dosage (2.5 mg or 5 mg) of MethylFolate (Folinic Acid or Quatrefolic) my 5 yrs old autistic son becomes very irritated and meltdown happens. Is this a transient phase or I need to stop high dosage MethylFolate?

According to studies, the titers of autoantibodies tend to vacillate with time, as well as 5-MTHF concentration levels in the cerebrospinal fluid, so CSF concentrations would be a more reliable test, but even they might not reflect the long-term status properly. This is what I've gathered by reading all CFD papers I could find.

Great summary! Yes, a spinal tap would give more specific results however that is a very invasive test and not something to be done regularly especially as you note levels do fluctuate with time.

The trouble is 99% of Drs don't know about it and don't believe it's necessary. Bigger question about these functional medicine concepts is why is this knowledge so marginalized since the costs of significant impairment (for all parties) is so high?

My child took folate(folinic acid)after 4 months of (15mg/day),he start twitching befaure deep sleep...have you an explication ?thanks

Hi. Sleep movements are common but it's always good to check in with the doctor who recommended the folate. In general, the cause of these jerky movements is unknown but is related to when the brain is shifting from being awake to being asleep. The folate taken is specifically to impact the brain so in many ways it is not shocking because you were giving a supplement to specifically target the brain but you want to make sure these are not related to any brain discharges or seizure activity. Stress, anxiety, exercise, and lack of sleep can all cause these kinds of jerky movements in sleep. It's not necessarily a bad thing but it would be important to understand and identify the reason. What changes did you see with the folate? Did you start at 15 mg/day? Were/are you working up to a higher dose?
