First, kudos for taking a stand against rudeness. It's so unnecessary. And I love your dogs and can't imagine what kind of dog hater would say anything about them. They're a big reason I'm here 😊 Second, this is such a fun no-brain movie....the kind you can just have fun and not think about anything too hard.

J, I loved your message at the beginning. It was a very tactful reminder that there is no reason for people to be so nasty about something they don't happen to like. There is far too much bullying on the internet as it is, and I think it's great that you and Blank have established that this is a Bully-Free Zone, and is a space of acceptance. I haven't even watched the reaction yet, but I wanted to say that. 🙂

The stunts were next level back in ‘94…and it was all practical effects. Look up the making of Speed. It’s a great watch! Also, nice catch on the similarity to the Bad Boys score…Mark Mancina composed the music for both movies. Speed was a big hit because it was a fresh take on standard action movie tropes of the 80’s and 90’s. And it ages so well. Just pure entertainment done right. Loved the reaction!

One reason why I enjoy this channel, and other channels that project a positive influence. There's far too many incendiary KZfaq channels that incite argument and negativity. There's also hateful, nasty people sitting behind keyboards, who take their issues out on random strangers over the most unimportant things like movie and music tastes. It's one of the main reasons why I've stopped using social networking apps, and unsubbed from certain KZfaq channels that thrive off negativity. Life's too short to start arguments or be nasty to others for the sake of it. I love sharing enthusiasm for art, whether it be music or movies. If I don't like something, I move on, and never feel the need to tell everyone. I don't understand why some people find that so hard to do.

The water in the barrels is real. There's two reasons they do it: First, it's an easy way to weigh them down after you place them along the road so they don't blow into traffic. Second, the water can absorb a lot of impact and slow down a crashing vehicle. Like with that guy's car.

"How the hell... bus hop?" Well, the producers had seen LA highway construction for years and years; they just can't let this ONE chance go! There were complaints before this angle was pitched, but they couldnt' find any 'gap' anywhere else. "This is it - our one chance to try it. Hey - can a crane or a helo lift a bus? Then buy us some cables... we'll whilte 'em out later."
@butter7734

I am pretty sure Mythbusters did the bus jumping thing and if I remember right they found it was impossible with a flat road. If there was a slight incline like in the movie shows the bus would make it but at a higher speed and everyone inside the bus would have broken their vertebrae. The g forces from landing were to extreme.

I was born in 1990, and I've been watching this movie since it came out on VHS, putting me at around four or five years old. This here is a proper action movie, and one of the best ones of the past few decades (however long and ridiculously awesome as that list may be). P.S. The role of Annie was originally offered to Halle Berry, but she turned it down. No worries, cause Sandra Bullock was great and she and Reeves had great chemistry, and secret crushes on one another. (They made another movie together called The Lake House the following decade that I really like, but that's a romantic drama instead of a balls-out action movie.) Years later though, Berry would still work with Keanu Reeves on John Wick: Parabellum, and holy hell is she awesome in that.

Pay phones ring. Usually they had the number of the phone under the handset. Also if you dialed 951- and the last 4 digits of the phone’s number, and then hung up, the phone would ring back at you. The water barrels are there to act as a cushion if someone crashes into it at highway speed. Without them, the car would just smash into concrete and kill anyone inside.

One of my favorite Keanu Reeves action movies! This is DIE HARD ON A BUS! Speaking of, the Cinematographer who did DIE HARD, Jan De Bont, directed this film after Sony cancelled his GODZILLA remake that was going to come out in 1996. Before Reeves was cast as the hero, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kurt Russell, Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Tom Hanks, Woody Harrelson, Wesley Snipes, and Stephen Baldwin were considered for the role. Before Sandra Bullock was cast as Annie, Meryl Streep, Ellen DeGeneres, Halle Berry, and Anne Heche were considered for the role. Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro were considered for the villain. Joss Whedon (Buffy, Firefly, Serenity, The Avengers) had actually rewritten the action scenes. The scene where Reeves jumps from the car to the bus was done in one take and it was real. He performed the stunt himself. There was at least 11 buses used in the movie in order for the camera to move more freely, and some were used for the jump sequence when the bus tried to cross the gap in the freeway. It was nominated for 3 Oscars: Best Sound Editing Best Sound Mixing Best Film Editing. It won the first 2.

Most of the time those barrels are filled with sand as opposed to water, because the water can evaporate out of them. In the movies they use water because it's more dramatic. But those do indeed exist. They're a form of an attenuator, designed to keep a vehicle from directly striking the edge of a Jersey wall section. If you haven't seen it, I'd suggest checking out Devil, directed by M. Night Shamalan. That movie will have you saying "Shut up" more than a few times.

I love how overall mellow you are and while I imagine a lot of that is just who you are, I also think that a big part of that is your beautiful dogs, because dogs just make everything better.

Ah, the 90's, when cars, busses and trains temporarily turned in spaceships and flew. Movies back then would often require a bit more suspension of disbelief. Fun film though, and enjoyable reaction. :)

I'm going to be really honest here. When I first found this channel, I immediately started skipping past the intro. Nothing new to me and my viewing habits, but I will say that's... kind of... a compliment. The reason I skipped the intro to the videos was because I couldn't wait to get to the reaction to the movie and be swept away in JL's humor and, most of all, realness. As time went on and I was watching another of your videos, I clicked into the intro (again, trying to skip through it, sorry) and I heard words about someone who had lost a dog. I went straight back to start and watched the whole thing. I needed to know what had happened and was crying by the end of the intro. Now I always watch the whole video because I want to hear what my guy had to say. I started watching this and I had to pause just a few minutes in because I love the way JL shows respect for the EOM family. People who have experienced hurt, are grieving, are going through something hard and EOM does a nice thing for them without expectation or ulterior motives... it's just a nice thing to do. What do some people do? They act like spoilt entitled A-holes. You know, I really didn't think I'd write this much down. I just felt passionate from hearing JL talking. Hell, maybe being just as bad by expressing my thoughts on this and calling those people who bad-mouthed others A-holes. I don't know. However, something I do know is - and I've said it in another video, but I'll say it again - you know a good dude when you see it. JL and the EOM family are good dudes. ANYHOOO. Now to watch the rest of the video.

Some pay phones actually did allow you to ring in, though that was phased out as time went on. I think it was still common enough at the time of this movie's release to not be too weird. Closer to the turn of the millennium, fewer pay phones allowed it, but you could still find them. As for "Why do they have water right there". For exactly that reason. In my part of Southern California, we call them "crash cans", though there are probably other terms for them. They're filled with water so they can rapidly stop a car without killing anyone inside it. The force of the crash is redirected into the water, which is jettisoned in the water-explosion. Those crash cans were what allowed that guy to survive. I mean, I imagine it's like an airbag and it doesn't _feel_ very good, but you know, you're alive to feel that pain, so.
