Speed Monster is an Intamin accelerator coaster at TusenFryd. This coaster features the original Norwegian Loop and that element wraps around the escalators into the park, as this ride is located on a rocky cliff. While this ride doesn't have the same power as the other accelerator coasters, it has a strong case as Norway's most famous coaster.

Speed monster does run in the rain, and its probably the most reliable coaster at tusenfryd
@CanobieCoaster

Thanks for confirming it actually can run in the rain. I know European parks run things in precipitation more frequently than the US, but I was skeptical since I saw Heide and Thorpe close their accelerators even in light rain (while keeping everything else open).

@@CanobieCoasterStealth is very inconsistent with rain closures, sometimes it closes in slight rain but a lot of the time they give a warning that “the ride may be uncomfortable” and continue with operation. One time I got a night ride with heavy rain, no countdown and almost a rollback. It was like being shot by a firing squad in the dark!

This coaster positively surprised me when I rode it. I have a weakness for coasters like this. Not the strongest layout, but one I really enjoyed and I still found the airtime to be ejector on the hills

I didn't get ejector. I tried it early in the day and towards the end. Still a fun ride though.

Well most of the ride looks tame, the visual of charging through the forest and seeing a coaster do a Norwegian loop through an escalator looks cool enough to make this a bucket list coaster.

Look up the documentary Rollercoaster Dynasty. It talks about Ronny Schafer's job building coasters. During the part when he's building Speed Monster, he goes on a rant.

I would give this ride a bit more credit for the scenic views and interesting entry set piece that it is for the time it was built. The lower launch intensity might be adding to the up time, seems like a great fit for the park when it was built.

Personally, i will take this over Dessert Race a d Rita. As much as their launch is way stronger, i think the rest of the layout of Speed Monster is a lot more interesting. I found its airtime stringer than you did and i think the Norwegian loop os one of the best inversions in Europe!

Would love to see Intamin come back to norway and expand on this coaster or make a new one somewhere else in the park to serve as the elite coaster of the park. With the addition of Storm makes the park have lots of different intensitiy. But it still lacks a longer expirience with the same intensity as Storm. So with a longer and more intense expirience than the pretty tame Speedmonster, the park will be well rounded. Progression intensity: Loopen, Speedmonster, Thundercoaster, Storm and then hopefully a future elite coaster from Intamin

I always wondered: At what point do you consider the (positive) forces to be powerful or bone crushing? Since this is a veeeery subjective topic I would like to hear your take. Personally I don't grey out until I got rerides on coasters or flatrides with 4,5 - 5g's or up. Anyting below that I just find the forces "okay". But this coaster is high up on my bucket list. I like the most intense stuff, but a scenic location can make a ride better than the most powerful ride around. Terrain coasters are my favourite anyway.
@CanobieCoaster
@CanobieCoaster 11 ай бұрын
It's a combination of their strength and how sustained they are, so it's definitely subjective.
@Celatra
@Celatra 10 ай бұрын
personally, i don't feel the forces much even at 5g's. laterals i feel more. but i dont really rank coasters based on forces, i rank them based on smoothness and layout and location.
