Dislike edge highlighting? That makes me feel better :-) It’s such a popular technique now, and my clumsy meat hands just cannot get it to look right, no matter how securely they’re braced, or how little caffeine I’ve had. Such a good choice to get the scariest looking hero out of the way first. You’ve doubltessly got a backlog of video ideas by this stage, but your wisdom on the topics of vehicle painting, or even freehand/ decal work would be invaluable. Thanks again!

Taddeus is the one I'm dreading painting. The guy is all sorts of detailed bits. He was also the biggest PITA to put together. He had a gap on his shoulder that needed green stuff. The servo-skull antenna broke off. I had to use some metal for pinning with green stuff as a replacement, since super glue wasn't holding the piece on very well.

Don't get me wrong, there's nowt wrong with GW games (I have a bunch of them) was just interested in your potential scope. There are a ton of really good miniature board games out recently and never enough time to paint them so anything speed painty and well executed is a thing of beauty :)

i brought one of ebay because i wanted her for 40k and the rifle was broken too but its an easy fix get some plastic cement/glue and use to much to glue it together make sure you get it straight and then when its done use a sponge with some fine sand paper or a sanding sponge and smooth it down then to keep it strong i recommend primer and a varnish before painting i now have a super strong amallyn ive dropped on her gun a couple of times and its fine.

@monsieur burger king Well the thing is their plastic is of a really high quality already, people who don't own the miniature might not realize how incredibly tiny the barrel actually is, i approximate it to the shaft of a needle, maybe a little thicker. When working on that scale it doesn't matter if you are using steel, wood, whatever. The piece is going to be frail. There is no need for them to apologize as there is nothing to apologize for, and they did pop a tweet up warning people of how thin the piece was so they did pay it attention. GW's community team has been taking leaps and bounds and they deserve credit for that, which is the reason why I'm defending them.
@juul361
@juul361 5 жыл бұрын
@monsieur burger king the colored plastic has nothing to do with the quality its something theyve introduced recently foe beginners so they can easily distinguish multiple factions within a boxset without having to immidiately paint everything. Second resing isnt neciserally higher quality, however it is more difficult to work with requiring several different extra steps for both painting and assembeling. What they are doing now is making high quality models accesible to practically everyone. Yes if a shirt is ripped i wouldnt say sow it but i wouldnt go online lambasting the company especially if the problem was easily fixed by returning to the store and requesting a replacement which they will happily supply. And lastly calling me part of the problem for rebuting your critisism is rediculous, i feel like your entire attitude toward the company is bitter and unwaranted, you are the kind of people to possibly sink gw as you push people away from the hobby before theyve even started.

Question: I've been having trouble with my washes. I do use hefty quantity (and don't add water), but they also seem to really darken the entire mini very close to black. I then go back and repair the excessiveness. (using reaper washes). Any tips, tricks, or recommendations?

Oooh, that's tricky to answer! The thing is, I'm probably painting slower as I'm also filming at the same time. I would guess that following this series, you could maybe paint the whole set up in about 20 hours, all in. So, an hour every weekday evening for a month :)

While your videos are well produced, the constant referencing of supporters is annoying and distracting. Cloak could have used a 3rd coat to smooth it out, it was still patchy when you moved on to the wash. I'd say it's ok to spend a bit more than 1h13 mins on a model. Maybe 2-3 hours and paint up the gems in proper colors (if you want to save time get the Gemstone technical paints from GW) and do 2-3 more successive highlights on the cloak. Thin it with Mat medium (Lahmian Medium from GW) and you'll get really nice smooth transitions. Also, I cringe every time you use a huge size 2-3 brush for super small work and get spillage over your lines. Invest in some Windsor Newton Series 7 size 00, 1 and 2. It will do wonders for cleaning up your paint lines.
@VaultBoy13
@VaultBoy13 5 жыл бұрын
Agree with the constant referencing supporters. It'd be better to display their names as supporters at the end of the episode. I also agree that I'm surprised you didn't spend a bit more time on Amallyn. The heroes are the focal point of the game, so it's kind of surprising you didn't put in a little bit of extra time. But, I don't agree with using technical paints. The nice thing about MWM videos (for this series) are that you're sticking with the 13? (17? however many colors it was) for the whole game.
@MidwinterMinis
@MidwinterMinis 5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for your critique! Let me respond to your points: I know that spending a few seconds thanking supporters here and there might be annoying, but I personally hate "bookend" credits. I nearly always skip them. It also gives me a chance to talk about how I'm investing people's donations back into the channel, so people know I'm not just drinking myself to death, haha. Patchy green? You betcha, but you can't really tell in the final product. The cape looks mottled and worn, which I'm totally down with. This series is all about cutting corners, saving time, but still having decent results. More time spent, technical paints, and expensive brushes? Not for this series. It's aimed at beginners with limited resources and experience, so they can play a fully painted game without spending the same (or more) on paints than the game itself. For example, while I've obviously got very fancy brushes having been in the hobby for twenty-something years, the 2 brushes used in this video were from a Royal & Langnickel set, 10 for £10. There are only 14 paints used in the whole series. While I genuinely appreciate your feedback, this is very much aimed at beginners :)
