Nice video, This is pretty nice, with the newer m.2s coming out in either being able to re-use a drive when you upgrade or picking up a used/price dropped gen 3 m.2 and getting a boost using the adapter

there is also version of this adapter without heatsink to mount users one, but that one here is better because the board itself takes alot of heat when connected with SSD using termopad

I wonder why it's slower in the M.2 slot? Is it because the M.2 slot goes through the motherboard's chipset and the PCI-e slot goes straight to the CPU?

No. On some MB if you have NVME and Sata at the same time, it bottlenecks the NVME. Your MB users manual should tell you if that's the case. I suspect that's what's happening in his test. I have an Aorus X570 Master v1.0 and there was zero performance improvement of the Pcie adapter over the on-MB m.2 connectors. Both performed at the maximum speed the SSD could handle (7000Mbs).

Some of the boards have lanes directly connected to the CPU and others that go through the chipset just like my.

I have an Aorus X570 Master v1.0 and (as expected) there was zero performance improvement of the Pcie adapter card (PCIEX4 slot) over the on-board m.2 connectors. Both performed at the maximum speed the SSD could handle (7000Mbs). Check your Mobo user's manual: if you experience a difference in speed you probably have some Pcie lanes shared with the Sata controler (e.g. on the Aorus Master the last 2 Sata ports are sharing Pcie lanes with m.2, so, if used they will limit the m.2's speed).

@@gartensocke747 hey i have bought the adapter. It works but the speed is capped to 250mb/s. Normal HDD speed is 150mb/s so getting the adapter is not worth it. I would suggest get the SATA SSD 500mb/s instead. Or if you got the budget get a new motherboard that has m.2 slot.

@@gartensocke747 almost forgot if you are using adapter you cant install OS and boot from there. It will only work as storage.
