Speed Warping an Inkle Loom for Tablet Weaving

Speed warping or Continuous warping makes tablet weaving a much easier process! Here we discuss what patterns you can and can't speed warp, why, and then set up a loom from 0 to ready to weave in less than 30 minutes.

I must admit you are a good teacher for any other i have no idea what there going on about ive wached videos over and over just to tryn to understand it .But for me its the patterns that i cant get also the A and Z threaded. They are the only things that puzzles me. but thank you for the under standing of it all.

I am a rigid heddle weaver, and it took me 2 hrs to set up and complete warping for a scarf just the other nite! I would do more weaving if warping was not so time consuming Those who work with large floor looms can take a couple of days to complete warping for a large project (LOL) I would really like to do some contemporary tapestry weaving, but I don't have an artistic bone in my body. I also enjoy machine knitting, and just completed a large afghan several days ago. Size - 68" x 72". Took me 9 hrs of machine knitting, from start to the last bind off. Like Beth Alexander said - "Warping has always felt like a chore!

Patterning you said!? I'm very new, just learned about inkel looms and tablet/card weaving, been researching for making a yurt/ger and this seems like a good way to make my strapping. Would love to see more(but I understand a pack of time with the pandemic still happening).

I have never seen this type of loom before or this type of weaving for that matter. So what do you do with it when finished? When you take it off the loom how do finish the ends? This is very interesting. I can needle tat which was done before shuttle tatting . I would like to know can you buy a STRONG nylon for weaving? I would like to make heavy duty straps.

Hi Alicia! This is called card or tablet weaving, it's a very old form of weaving that is delightfully practical. There's another video of how I finish the ends so they don't unravel, but you can also braid them, fold them and sew them, or tuck them into jewelry or leather clasps. Tablet weaving actually creates a very strong band because each thread is 4 threads twisted around each other. I haven't used nylon, but haven't ever had a strap break. What kind of use are you thinking?

But what about twists in the threads as you weave? wont they not be able to untwist?

I really like #10 cotton crochet thread for teaching. It's available almost everywhere, cheap, and in a wide variety of colors.

I often speed warp all 8 of those combos by switching out threads as needed....

To be more clear.... start with 4 white threads warp those cards, sit reminding cards down with wrapped cards cut two threads switch just those two to red continue warping all one go.

For this I was referring to speed warping specifically as not having to stop and change threads mid warp. :). Changing threading makes everything possible.
