Speedrunning is a topic that many have come to view as one of the most intriguing, and most interesting pastimes of the modern day gaming scene. There's something inherently intriguing about pushing video games to their absolute limits, graying the lines between what is and isn't humanly possible to achieve, and because of this very philosophy, speedrunning has only continued to grow more and more popular over the last couple of years But what exactly is a speedrun? Where did the idea of speedrunning originate from? And what is the sort of "artform" hidden behind this rather simple concept? Today we'll take a dive into the world of speedrunning: a place in which I find to be one of the most fascinating places in the gaming industry, and a story that I think is more than worthy of being shared!

Quick note: One point I did forget to mention was the efforts of player "Mike Uyama" who was the original founder and organizer of the "Games Done Quick" event showcased in this video. Mike Uyama held the first ever "Games Done Quick" event in the very basement of his mother's household because of complications involving the venue in which the event was originally planned to take place in, and was overall a very important figure in the rise of speedrunning's popularity.
