Somewhere out there is almost certainly a person who managed to get a world record time or managed to find a new glitch that could change the speed running scene but all they did was go "wow that was cool"

The former world record of cooking mama cook off run of 2:49:30 is unfortunately lost media. It was around for 5 years and sometime in 2020 deleted his twitch. Since the community was so small it was never archived, 2 of his other runs were found though on an alt

My most tragic lost media was "the pit" in 16.90, a spec ops level from modern warfare 2, done in late 2010, set to music that was copyrighted and I quickly removed the video because of this. Even today it would still barely be a top 10 time.

I was there during the alexsm64 era, i was into speedrunning and made my twitch account in early 2013. I remember watching his streams but never thought that what i was watching would be lost to time one day. I'm glad that in current years everything is archived by mods so it never happens again.

Awesome video! This is something I have thought about because when I set the world record in Super Metroid I did that by running my SNES through a VCR and recorded the gameplay on tape, and sent the only copy to be verified. Plus the run I performed was a 100% completion without saves so there was not even a save file when I was done. It was not a perfect run by any means but does hold more value now than I initially thought.

One speedrun that I’ve been searching for is a Link to the Past run by now disgraced runner TSA. Back when Gamespot had a user videos section on their website, I remember watching 3 speedruns on the site, one of which was ALTTP by TSA. Since Gamespot has since removed their user videos, I have been unable to find that TSA speed run. I know he’s not well regarded any more in the speedrun community and hasn’t been for years, I still long for the day when I can once again feast my eyes on that run. A lot of those user videos were uploaded elsewhere but I’m sure there are a handful that are now considered lost media, including the ALLTP speedrun I mentioned.
@Ishnaarg
@Ishnaarg 2 жыл бұрын
@@GamerFolklore During my time watching Gamespot videos in the mid to late 2000s, it was a user name Ioupopio who was cutting TSA's run's into different sections and uploading them in parts (since video sharing websites had stricter time limits back 15 years ago). I have no idea how I still remember that person's username. Probably since it looked like such a strange name to me for whatever reason. Good to hear that others have kept ahold of TSA's runs. Despite the splicing, watching his runs is what got me into watching and learning about speed runs and so it would be sad to see them disappear.

Speaking of Lost Media I couldn't find a pink USB that had some files. I looked everywhere and turned the room upside down searching and searching and like 7 days later I found it on the floor behind a recliner in the room. What was weird was I already looked back there and it just magically shows up.

I thought everyone salvaged their HDDs from their broken devices. HDDs often outlive the motherboard and all other computer components. It's estimated some can potentially last 100's of years if carefully and properly stored and handled. That goes for broken external HDDs too.

The history of the Mario 64 community is a little bit off. Originally, emulator and console runs were both acceptable and widely accepted, but people grew to not trust emulator runs after various emulator runners were caught cheating. Ignorance into how emulators were used to cheat caused the community to largely shift to being run on console because at the time, many didn’t understand why running on project 64 was fine because it wasn’t being articulated that runners cheating were using Mupen64 which had TAS tools. This large paranoia surrounding emulators is what led Wii VC to become so hated because it was seen as a direct advantage and due to the past with emulation, the fact the VC release was emulated soured things even more. Eventually there was a category split, but unfortunately, the damage had already been done and people were being harassed for running on emulator or virtual console.

Seems to me that, if you were only able to do one wr-pace run, it's not that relevant if you lost the footage. Whats the point of speedrunning, showing some "proof" to others that you managed to do it once, or proving to yourself that you are able to execute a game a certain way, and in the latter case, should you not only be satisfied when you know you can do it pretty consistently? Like, you would eventually get that footage if you are actually on the level of that run you did, else I don't know what's the value in knowing you could do it that one time only.
