Bookish scholar Ning Caichen traveled to the capital to take the imperial examination. One rainy night, he sought shelter in the abandoned Lanruo Temple, only to encounter a stunning beauty named Nie Xiaoqian. To his surprise, Nie Xiaoqian was not only alluring but also aggressively pursued Ning Caichen. Little did he know, Nie Xiaoqian was actually a female ghost, employed by the evil Black Mountain demon to seduce men and extract their essence. Despite Nie Xiaoqian's attempts to entice Ning Caichen, he remained unmoved, being the first person he encountered with such integrity. This piqued Nie Xiaoqian's curiosity. When Ning Caichen discovered Nie Xiaoqian's true identity, he decided to join forces with exorcist Yan Chixia to rescue her from the clutches of the Black Mountain demon.

I haven't seen the whole movie, but if the rest of the movie is even remotely as good as this montage of scenes, then this is without doubt (just speaking for myself) the most imaginative and creative combination of supernatural martial arts since Tsui Hark's Swordsman I and II and the Temptation of a Monk series (which obviously had a huge influence on this movie). Very well done and sustained applause.

特效不错。王祖贤演的那版、那是因为之前看过的影视剧不是很多、所以感觉好看。现在看过的各种影视剧太多了，所以品味变挑剔了。然后最后面的黑山老妖都是石头、不是很理想。

實話講對我這種俗人來說，特效及化妝跟運鏡都真的挺不錯，但是寧采臣小倩燕赤霞三人的演技和肢體語言（不是打鬥動作），真的只有燕赤霞的演出夠味，反而男女主角讓人各種出戲的格格不入。
