The whole "celestial DNA" kinda reminds me of Ancient gene from Stargate, that allowed people to interact with the most sofisticated devices of the Ancients

The fact that the main Aliens in Exodus, "The Celestials", are descendants of Humanity is what drew my budding interest in this new IP. I like this trope. The Celestials are even diverged into different types of Celestials. You can even see in the trailer on how different but familiar it looks. Tall and regal with a hint of Human ancestry(The website mentions this particular one is a Crown Knight, Celestial. The oldest type of Celestial). There's even mention of 3 types so far. The Elohim, the Detenir, and the Crown Knights. I can't wait to learn more about them.

All sci-fi does it. The Zombies in Halo are literally called the Flood. Transformers generation 1 has the Ark as a ship that crashes on earth. It's just symbolism. The Legend of Atlantis is about God punishing a technologically advanced race by flooding them. (thus the legend of the city of Atlantis being a "sunken" city) Many cultures all around the world all have a flood story in them so it can make the sci-fi more appealing to universal audience. (the humans are a single "race" with aliens being the other cultures that we discover that are mysterious to us and each alien race is different to each other just like we have different races on earth with different beliefs and cultures etc) If you read the Book of Enoch there is a story of how the fallen angels messed with human animals and plants (gentic tampering to create literal monsters of our mythology) and God punished them severely. Angels unlike humans are supernatural in ability so we have a tendancy to pedestalise them and worship them which leads to cults that leads to in-fighting based on which god is the "best" with nations fighting each other to prove whose god is the better one. Book of Enoch is not considered canon but it's an interesting read if you like stories of rebel angels defying the authority then getting punished for F-ing up the world due to disobedience. (it's the story of pretty much every JRPG where the origins of monsters is explained) The moral of these stories is when put in the hands of the wrong people the tehnology is ultimately used to enslave the weak to serve under the elites who see themselves as gods and play god with people's lives which causes the REAL God to have to "reset the matrix" so to speak. Noah's Flood is God "resetting the Matrix" so that only weak, humble and righteous chosen guys can breed and replenish the earth by spreading their righteous seed to rebuild things how they were before the fallen angels tampered with the animals and plants to create super soldiers and bioweapons to enslave people. If nature represents the "safe" state, then hacking the genes is the hacked state which might introduce chaos and disharmony into the system. The fallen angels are the hackers who like to cheat and modify things, and God could be seen as the original programmer that made a bug-free system that didn't need "enhancing".

Yeah, most of my hype here is around the writing team. I still dream about what ME3 would have been Drew (I'm not going to try his surname from memory, lol) hadn't left. As much as still loved that game (aside from the last 15 min or so), the "AI bad" thing was so overdone even 10+ years ago.

On paper, it looks like a promising game. Great story writing and the combat looks like a generational leap over Mass Effect. The main point of concern is that Archetype Entertainment is owned by Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro. Let's just say that Larian probably ended their relationship with Hasbro and Wizards if the Coast for a reason.

Was there ever any doubt that Exodus wasn't going to be a good game at the very least, especially with Hamilton on the team? 😜 In all seriousness though, direction was something the old Bioware always needed. By direction I mean: someone telling them what was going to work, what wasn't, what can be implemented into the story logically without heavy retcons of the lore they themselves established in their games and I hope the ex/old BW guys will really bring out their best without heavy crunching and with their cooperation with Hamilton. 😊

I think there is always room for doubt. I don't blame people who are skeptical; there aren't many good games these days and most claim to be full of promise. I do think this one is probably different but even so, it's possible it won't be good. Fingers crossed it turns out well!

Mass Effect is full of biblical and mythological allusions, everything from the prophetic role of shepherd, to the demonic adrat yakshi who's name comes from Arcadian mythology. Exodus seems to level this up, Elohim is of course Hebrew for god, but we also have the existence of a half- celestials as a kind of Nephilim, a quest that involves leaving your connections behind to cross the gate of heaven and expect much more.

Yeah, some overlap is guaranteed but I actually think the story might be better considering they have Peter Hamilton on their team.

What raised the trilogy above and beyond was the people you fought with. You can have a game with the most amazing gameplay, even with engrossing story, but if you say the Eight Deadly Words (*) it won't matter. Of course, an engrossing story often becomes that by having people in it that you identify with. What we need to see is the "wars" of Garrus vs Liara vs Tali fanatics. 😆 (*) I Don't Care What Happens To These People

Thanks for this vid. As much as I like the ME Saga (except 3 and Andromeda), the game mechanics were very basic even back then. No actual action fps, just mashing buttons to take cover etc. No real feel of gameplay (Witcher 3 had the same issues).
