Not just America. Recently here in Australia, a prominent doctor was called out by someone for constantly referring to "pregnant people", but never "pregnant women". He was asked if only women could get pregnant, and he gave medical descriptions about how someone could get pregnant, but could not bring himself to say "women", no matter how many times he was asked. Very disturbing.
