I've been living in GP for the past ~16 years so here are some facts and my opinion on this city!
!NOTE - I got my provincial tax bracket calculation wrong. You'd have to be making $204,676 for income taxes to start to be cheaper in Alberta than BC.

As someone who just moved to GP last year from BC, I can tell you a few things. 1 - Property taxes are very high, so be prepared - if you buy an average family home to pay anywhere from $4000-$6000 a year in property tax. Many people don't factor this in . 2 - Utilities are also expensive, in the cold winter months your gas and electric is costly 3 - There is definitely a lack of food/restaurant diversity. If you like sushi/asian or other offshore cuisine not much options. 4 - For the amount of property tax you pay, snow removal is horrendous. Overall, it's definitely more affordable than most of BC and the larger Alberta cities.

I live in Calgary, the cost of living here is astronomical. In the past I would never consider moving to a small town, but at this point I would consider it. I’m so sick of the crime, homelessness, the shootings, random knife stabbings, and just renting is ridiculous; for a two bedroom, now roughly $1900. So I’m thinking of something quiet almost boring, no random shootings just peace in my life for me and my daughter, and I just wanna be able to afford my house and not run into debt, plus I work from home so this is not an issue for me to move anywhere- inflation in Canada is ridiculous plus we are getting more immigrants with nowhere to put people, as we do not have the infrastructure to house people, so that raises our mortgages interest rates and rents more. Something quiet and peaceful would be such a nice change.

Property taxes in GP are out of control, a simple google search shows GP is the 2nd highest taxed city in Alberta. Utilities are also very expensive. Between the tax and utilities, the monthly housing bill is actually comparable to other larger cities, or even some nicer towns or cities in B.C. However, the opportunity in GP is definently there so there is still pros and cons.

O cool yeah I'm born and raised in GP, but moved to Slave for school at the northern lakes college. Doing a EMT paramedic program. I moved to Peace River for a bit, to get out of Grande Prairie. All my family is in GP. So I'm sure ill stay around the region. I met a couple of Letendre. One in GP, one in Peace. @@delbertletendre9504

We live out past Grovedale - it's not bad, but the hill and the 3rd world road going up the hill scare ppl off! Otherwise, this was such a good, fair and comprehensive review. Well done!❤

NO!! Trust someone who has. Not only GP but everywhere north of Edmonton. Enjoy 8 months of winter then there’s construction and mosquito season where it still might snow. Zero scenery.

Hello I’m am moving to gp in two weeks I am just wondering if my area of city will have fiber optic internet any help would be greatly appreciated:)
@WilliamVavrek
@WilliamVavrek Жыл бұрын
You would have to check with your provider to confirm that, currently Telus where we are does not offer fibre for residential services. You might be better off if you need high speed to get Starlink as a possible option.

Lived there for 11 years. Every person I met would leave within 2 years. Couldn't ever connect with the locals. Only thing I miss is my house. I will never move back there. I took a big pay cut to leave.

Don't vote red or orange if you move to AB. Vote Blue. There is a reason you left your province.
