So many people are saying that Croatia overachieved and that they've pulled off the biggest upset ever but idk I honestly expected them to do very well this year. If you just think about their team for a sec, they've got arguably the world's best midfield in Modrić, Rakitić and Brozović (also Kovačić and Badelj who are both very solid players). But not only the midfield, they also have Subašić, Vrsaljko, Perišić, Pjaca and Mandžukić. Most of their team consists of world class players who play an important role in big clubs. Plus most of their players are very experienced which always helps in a big tournament. Did they overachieve? Yeah. But was it so unexpected? I don't think so. I actually think they were underachieving the years before.

The peerception is that he was jus there for the easy goals, while Lukaku and Griezmann even though didn't score better or more goals helped there team in other ways then scoing penalties and 2 headers

About Trippier, Meunier for Belgium had a decent tournament aswell, and because of his suspension against France, Belgium were weakened. Every time he played, he did awesome performances.

both of them can hit rockets, Witsel unfortunately didn't look that much in his element this World Cup and didn't really take chances. And even though Naingollan is a tougher player andmight have provided better midfield stability, he's way less controlled than Witsel, so both of the players have their advantages and disadvantages

I think it might have but belgium did not have a crosser/play-maker on the right side vs france until mertens came on but that was too late. I honestly think some of the blame lies on martinez for playing 3-5-2 not a good counter or playmaking formation.

I’d say schmeichel should’ve been the goalkeeper of choice, as he’s been absolutely incredible in all of Denmark’s games and singlehandedly held up their hope when they played croatia

This is not the best, this is the more influent. Varane is the best. Pavard isn't. (Meunier is better, and more influent I think) Cavani is the best N°9 I think. He is the striker with Griez and Giroud who did a gigantic defense effort. But he is a better striker. In the air, in his calls, in everything. Kante has no equivalent. (was sick during the Final. NZonzi made a VERY good entrance !) Without the final mistake, I think Lloris was the key player. He just made a BIG save at every games. Rest is ok.

In my opinion, Griezmann has been a bit overrated this world cup. The games I watched him he played too egoistically which the stats also kinda show if we, for example, compare him to Mbappe. Griezzmann 21 attempts - 11 on target - 4 goals (2 of which are penalties) Mbappe 8 attempts - 7 on target - 4 goals. As for keeper, I prefer Courtois or Schmeichel. Courtois saved 27/33 attempts (81.8% save rate) and had the most saves in the tournament. Schmeichel saved 21/23 (91.3% save rate) And had the 3rd most saves in the tournament (91.3% is mental considering he had 3 penalties against him!) Lloris saved 12/18 (66.7% save percentage) and did a huge drop in the finals. Pickford with 17/25 (68%)

Lasse Andersen yeah Griezmann was incredibly selfish this tournament. It's not that he didn't help the team - he hindered the team's attacking and especially counterattacking potential. Much less selfish and more supportive in generating attacking threat was Lukaku, and even Kane has been levels above Griezmann this WC. Also yeah, I think it's between Schmeichel and Courtois for goalkeeper of the tournament, they basically did the same as Pickford has done - just every game instead of one particular game. Schmeichel's kicking was also really good this tournament, while Pickford's, while really bold and innovative, has faultered from time to time. Your reply is spot-on (great analysis) and deserves more upvotes.

How did Ronaldo look incredibly sharp and 'on fire' in the game against Spain, but then did very little after ? Any kind of enhancement ? Did he heavily train just for that game ? He looked like the best in the world still in that game, then nothing after. Also was he quite happy to be out of the competition early in order to tie up his move to Juventus (which happened just before the final) Very odd, I thought, Ronaldo at this World Cup.

Against Belgium, and not just this game, he sometimes disapeared for 20 minutes. He is good, but not at this WC. Neymar at least always tried something new to surprise his opponents. Don't blame him, blame all the players. You can't improve by pointing 1 element, when it's all the team who failed.

Neymar was always diving, always trying to argue with the ref, even if Coutinho didn't play really well against Belgium, he was the one who gave the assist for Renato Augusto's goal, that game against Belgium, was the only bad game for him, at the group stage and against Mexico he was one of the best if not the best for us, Neymar was pretty much useless.

I think the next Euros winner will be Belgium, because they have got lots of very good players, who will be very experienced in 2020, and the World Cup will go to England, because they have got a very good young generation now, and in 2022 they will be in their best form! I'm not a Belgium and not an England fan. These are just my early predictions! ;)

The Futból Follower I am Croatian and even I would not put Strinic in the best team. He was probably our worst player because he has no balls. He only does defensive work (that is not even great) but in the attack he is almost invisible. So it is very hard for Perisic to play because he always has 2 players marking him. When Pivaric played we were much more dangerous in the front because he crossed a lot more. At the end of the day he was the one who crossed in the ball against England and Mandzukic got a rebound. No hate just saying

Špac I agree with you. Perisic had to make up for lack of space with his runs but was struggling going forward, because he had two men on him each time.

Pretty much agree except for RB Trippier ST Lukaku Griezmann really wasn't on the top of his game, the chemistry with Giroud just wasn't as it used to be. Lukaku was really impressive. I can't believe he gets so little credit. Pavard performed above expectations but let's face it, Trippier was BEAST. Glad to see Hernandez in your list though, to me he was better than Pavard, but that goal against Argentina brought all the spotlight on the latter.

An interesting pick for CB would be Sweden’s Granqvist. Yes I know I’m biased cause I’m a swede but Spencer said he picked players who really contributed to their team and Granqvist was rock solid throughout the tournament and the loss against England wasn’t his fault. He also was 100% on penalties as Kane

Kiki Kolar Vida is definitely my #3 CB, but he was pretty poor against Denmark and wasn't all that good against Russia in the extra time. Granqvist and Varäne were solid all the way through their runs.
