At last I've been able to hear what was being said, thanks to MCN for sorting out the audio, the Hyabusa has never really been an inspiration for me, it was designed in a wind tunnel and I'm not a big fan of them but I'll respect anyone who can ride them especially on the track. I like the way MCN show all bikes even if they aren't ones you'll really want to be seen with, this isn't my cup of tea but please keep up the good work. Happy Christmas to you from NZ.😉.

I insulted the new Busa for having less hp than the gen2, then after really thinking about it I bought a black gen3. Suzuki might have dropped 3% off the peak hp but it gained a huge 8% or more hp right through the whole midrange. I'm really starting to get to like this bike now, the more I ride it. It's a weird but amazing experience. It has all the stability of a battleship, but most of the nimbleness of a sport bike. Brakes and suspension are fantastic. Really nice neutral steering, you set it to any lean angle at any speed and it will hold it, you can just take your hands off the bars. The midrange power is phenomenal, I've been watching people's stock dyno charts and the gen3 Busa makes about 120hp at 5000 rpm, compare that to say an R1 which makes about 72 hp at 5000 rpm. It would be a lousy track day bike, and its weight and foot position is not good in stop start traffic. But once moving that unlimited midrange punch and superb handling makes it a real smile machine. A naked bike is for hooning around town. A sport bike is for hooning around a racetrack. And a Busa is for hooning from one city to the next... 🥇👍😎 (Edit) re the fuel economy it I have very different experience. The dash says I'm getting 20 to 22km per litre cruising at 80kph to 110kph. So with a 20 litre tank that's 400 km per tank or so. In reality I've been filling it after about 280km, but I don't run it very low and I never fill it up tip top either. I think 400km to a tank would be totally believable on a touring trip for sure.

Have you changed the pipes at all? I’m like you were, not really keen on this latest version compared to a Gen2 ….until I walked into a shop, saw it and sat on it….just felt soooo right….but I hate those stock can…for me just don’t look right on it. How’s the bike been since your last comment? Still enjoying it with no isssues?
@Ritalie
@Ritalie Жыл бұрын
The 2nd Generation Hayabusa has too much power. More power was not needed. Really no change was needed at all to the motor, and so more torque is perfectly good, but totally unnecessary. I can't imagine more torque, because my 2nd Gen feels like you can barely hold on once the RPM's are above 3,500. What I like about the 3rd Gen is that they raised the gear ratio in 6th gear slightly to make it taller, which was definitely needed. The new bike does 3100 rpms at 60mph instead of the 2nd Gen's 3250 rpms at 60. So the new bike is a bit better for cruising with the stock gearing. I'm going to change the rear sprocket on mine from 43 tooth stock to a 38 tooth. I'd buy a 36 tooth if they sold one. I hate low gears, and the Hayabusa engine is a tractor at low RPM's, it really does feel like it has a supercharger, or forced induction of some type, because the engine pulls so hard at low RPM's, you'd swear it has forced induction, which really necessitates very tall gears, not the stock gearing which is just too low for 75 mph cruising. It cruises good at 55mph, but at 75 mph the engine is up above 4,000 rpms and that's too high for such a large engine. A 38 tooth rear sprocket drops the 60mph cruising from 3250 to 2,800 rpms, which is really exciting and way better.
@Ritalie
@Ritalie Жыл бұрын
I have a 2nd Gen, and it feels like a race bike around turns. If you're not racing against smaller, lighter bikes, and if you're just driving the bike to have fun, the weight doesn't matter. It handles so good on corners, it takes nearly no effort to turn. Actually the steering angle of Hayabusa is specifically designed to make it have extremely quick turn in on corners, it's not a heavy handling motorcycle. It actually has faster turn in, and feels snappier in corners than my 2002 ZX-6R which felt like a tank trying to lean into a corner, because of the weird steering angle which kept it in a straight line. The weight is only part of the equation, it's really the profile of the tires that makes all the difference, a sharper profile means a much more nimble and fast bike between fast sweeping turns, with a flatter tire feeling heavier and harder to turn, it's a HUGE difference and just changing tires can make the bike feel like a different motorcycle altogether. There's too much talk of the Hayabusa being heavy. If you compare the Hayabusa to a 500 pound BWM or some other sport touring bike, the Hayabusa would feel like a 600cc supersport, with it's twitchy steering angle. I'm not sure if they changed the steering angle on the 3rd Gen, but the 2nd Gen feels extremely light once you're moving.
@wizrom3046
@wizrom3046 Жыл бұрын
@@Ritalie yeah the 3rd gen Busa has slightly tweaked steering angle making it feel a bit more sportbike on the turn in compared to previous Busas. Its not a big change, just a tweak. Still loving mine, and realised after owning it for 18 months this is the first bike I hardly ever give it full throttle! Ive been riding for decades including litre class sport bikes and maybe it is because I'm not riding anywhere fast and private, maybe because I got older, or maybe just because YOU DON'T NEED TO! It's a beast. 🦍😎

Brilliant. Thanks for the comprehensive review. Makes it even more attractive. Agree, specially with a bike like this, that outside of the test bubble a long-term review is necessary. The Oxygen sensor doesn't work at all with alcohol. You can't tune your base fuel map to run on E-10 or E-15 because it won't give the right voltage reading at the O2 sensor and your injectors will spray too much fuel, your engine will run a bit too rich, so your fuel economy goes down. I think the gasoline companies know about this problem, because I've seen V8 cars lose 3mpg on the highway from just running E10 gasoline. If you decrease fuel economy by 12%, that means 12% more profit for fuel companies. They need to sell a car with a special switch to enable E-10 gasoline, because anything else is an intentional deception.

While you have one of the editors there, any thoughts on our government's announcement to ban the private ownership of vehicles in the relatively near future?
@friktionrc
@friktionrc 9 ай бұрын
Not going to happen. Govt makes so much from tax via private ownership - Vehicle Excise Duty, Fuel duty etc etc…at best they will limit where you drive / ride and start road toll charges eg, want to drive into the heart of the city at peak times - pay a charge. I’m sure rates will change depending if one is say a nurse/plumber compared to a ‘yummy mummy’ in her Chelsea tractor wanting to drive and park outside Harvey Nics. Busy, crowded cities is where the problem lies, not remote villages, rural areas where folks need vehicles to get around because public transport is non existent.

You can't actually use E-10 in any vehicle. Rubbers and plastics are viciously attacked by alcohols. Alcohols are just not compatible with soft rubber materials, especially natural rubber. In a short period of time, your gas cap will develop tons of weather cracking from the alcohol vapors and anything rubber in and around your fuel system, will begin to absorb the alcohol and degrade and crack. Using alcohol on something you care about, is like feeding it Fruit Loops cereal and hoping it will be healthy. In this world we are in now, on this Earth, it's called "Froot Loops" which never existed before, btw.
