I used to go to Florida every year as a child n I used to say if it weren't for the rest of my family living up north that I wouldn't wanna come back. But the storms has always been a bug deterrent for me as I got older as far as moving there permanently/living there full time. I agree with u completely that having your child well situated with a house,"school",care team n friends n family they're comfortable n familiar with is a big deal n is also what keeps me from wanting to move.

Iam glad you love your Minnesota home. That facts of all it has to offer B and her future looks so bright with the help she has been given there. Even though seeing you with the Maass's is double the joy for us.

Thank you for this. I need to hear this right now. I'm in city with no family and very little friends that get what we go through. And compare things and say look stuff like oh my kid is in sensory overload. When they aren't . They have no idea about my life. So I do turn to little support online from families like yours that get it. And the struggles that can come with autism

I’m glad that it came at a good time. When we moved to Minnesota it was a long time before we found our footing and friends and a lot of it was online or connecting still with the friends we left in Colorado when we moved. Support in any form is important.

@@TheWeeFamily I agree it is. I just find autism can be isolating at times. Or always having to leave places because he can't handle crowds. And friends not getting why . I tried the headphones but he doesn't like anything on his head

I'll say it Hell na to living in Florida way too muggy I love to visit like a week every 8 yrs 😂🤣😂🤣 I love the snow and my fresh air blue sky and my mountains and lake's and river's stay Blessed 🖤🌹🖤

Yessss I say the same thing. I’m in western NC so it get muggy but not like FL. Ive been once and wasnt impressed I couldn’t wait to get back to my mountains.

I can only suggest this as someone who began following you guys and the Maass's randomly just for more knowledge and enjoyment of your content: My wife and I recently up and moved from Colorado to Florida. Like you guys said around the 12 minute mark is exactly what we had happening. We just didn't have the social interactions we needed in CO. We have great friends all around the country that we see and visit when we travel, but nothing at our home base. Upon moving to FL, we literally hang out with friends weekly now and its fulfilling something we needed. If you can maintain the income you have in the move do it. We took a big risk with my wife initially taking a MASSIVE pay cut, but she just picked up a job that just upped it back to more than what she was making in Colorado, so now we are making more, and pay less for our mortgage. So I say make sure they are in the right row, but if the ducks are in that row, make the jump. It'll be worth it.

Thanks for the input! We actually moved from Colorado to Minnesota in 2017. We had the connections there but weren’t able to buy a home there and cost of living got high. Right now we have the resources and income that are best serving us but I’ll never say it will never happen! It may line up in our future. I’m glad the move has helped you guys so much! It sounds like you made a great choice!! 😃 also glad that you have started watching and enjoy

Yup, that was the 2nd Reason for the move, was the housing market! LOL We were looking at townhomes built in the 80s for 340K in Denver, where we just bought our home here in Orlando for only 300K, has 5 bedrooms and a pool. We are very happy with our move LOL

I know that! I (Stacey) was a born and raised Colorado native u til we got priced out. Even if we could’ve bought a home there, they really weren’t worth the cost so we moved. Having more affordable housing and cost of living makes a huge difference!! I’m glad you are loving your choice!!!

I’m a fan of the Maass’ and I found you guys through them and I’m so shocked I never found you guys earlier! ♥️ Does she have Childhood Apraxia of speech? Also, how is she with peers? Does she like interacting with her peers? Does she have an AAC device? And if she does, is it functional for her? Sorry if I’m bombarding! I’m so curious. ☺️

And how many words does she currently have in her vocabulary? Does she over generalize using those words to mean other things?

We don’t have a solid number of words that she has because they aren’t consistently used or spontaneous a large majority of the time so they don’t always have functional use.

She doesn’t have apraxia of speech diagnosis but she has dyspraxia or DCD (developmental coordination disorder) which impacts her speech. So she may know what she wants to say but the oral coordination to say the words gets jumbled so she does struggle to clearly get words out or gets them jumbled so it helps for us to prompt her to watch our mouths and slow it down. She has gotten much better about interacting with peers on her own terms but still doesn’t quite seek them out or anything. Socially she has a lot of growth to make still. She does have an AAC but of course as soon as we start to really work on that, she verbalizes more. We are still working on customizing it so a lot of options aren’t available at this time so it can be easier for her to request verbally for things at this time.

Yeah...🙆 Found you, again. Some how, YT or my phone, undid my bell alert. I put it back on. Great vlog. B is cute with Abbie. I think they understand each other on a different level than most. I can understand not living in Florida. It's a nice place to visit, but, don't like the bugs, alligators wandering the yard, and plate size spiders. I fell in love with Buffalo after moving here from Cape Cod. Similar weather, but, different atmosphere. Felt, very, much at home, here. Minnesota is pretty and B, does, love her snow. ❄⛄❄ ⛄ Glad you're having a good time. That storm was a doozy. 🌩 🌧 Have a Blessed night...🌛🌠😇😴 Hugs...🤗💛😘❤😍💖

Glad you’ve found us again! 😂 I’ve heard that the bell can switch off on its own for people sometimes. I agree, they have their own understanding and bond. Same with us. Nice to visit but probably not our dream for permanent. She is very happy here in Minnesota 🙂 It was a crazy storm!

I'm so glad you all are having a great trip. It's always amazing to feel that connection in person. I agree with you that it's so important to have a virtual community. Even if you are someone who has alot of family and friends close by it's nice to have people you can connect to outside of that who can relate on a personal level. I'm similar to your situation - I don't have much family that I'm in contact with that lives in state (alot family I do have I cut contact with due to abuse and unhealthy behavior). I moved to Massachusetts 14 years ago after being removed by social services due to severe abuse (I shared some of my story on the video that David talked about human trafficking awareness day). I have friends still in Jersey, but nearly all of my closest friends in Mass have moved away. One of my best friends moved to Germany and traveled the world with his now wife. My other best friend moved to Georgia and now lives in Texas. He had offered to help me move along with him many times as well. Now that my illnesses have progressed so much it's incredibly difficult to see anyone - even those who don't live far. Traveling is pretty impossible between with my health mostly, and not being able to work anymore. Which means visits are very infrequent. Many people suggest I move. People tend not to understand that once you have proper care, moving is pretty much out of the question unless there is a massive benefit. I have multiple degenerative diseases, really rare diseases (one is a rare kidney disease that less than 800 people world wide have ever been diagnosed with), constant severe pain, loss of mobility, loss of function requiring walkers/wheelchair and braces for paralyzed leg, will eventually lose function of my entire body, etc. Massachusetts is one of the best states for health care/disability care, and I still have to fight constantly for the bare minimum. I don't even want to imagine what it would be like in another state. I also have an amazing Dr who knows about my rare kidney disease. He and his office always have my back and help fight for me - not just with my multiple and rare kidney disease, but with all of my health. They are involved in *all* of my health care and fight for answers. They have no issues calling those offices to tell them they aren't doing what they should and need to do more. They have no issues ordering tests outside of what I'm there for, working with other drs, finding the answers for themselves, treating other things when others should have been doing it all along, etc. That's incredibly hard to find now. It's rare finding a Dr who goes above and beyond, that you know won't let you just slip through the system and is constantly searching for ways to give you a better quality of life. It's hard to find a care team that you know genuinely cares about you on a personal level. I don't think I will ever find a care team like that if I left. With that said, it doesn't mean I don't feel alone at times. Taking care of health and searching for routines/solutions can become all consuming at times. One thing I'm incredibly grateful for is that I'm a natural homebody and need time alone to be my best self. I can only imagine how difficult it could be for someone who is extroverted and craves quite alot of human contact. I feel like virtual community is still pretty underrated at this time. Some of the people I've met online have become some of my closest friends. I've been friends with many for 10 years at this point and we talk quite frequently. I think we've all heard the dismissive comments like "oh it's an _online_ friend". When in reality you may actually speak more frequently to these people than the people you see often in life. It's also been my experience that when meeting these friends in person often results in less awkward moments as if you've known them in person all along. I think it's important to remember we all need and deserve support. Support is support whether it's in person or a virtual community.

That’s the thing too, online/virtual relationships can also be people that you know in real life but don’t get to see as often as you’d like. You are very right, once you’re set up and have the resources that you need it really has to have some major benefit, moving doesn’t make sense. We were able to move from Colorado because here we got better resources and were able to buy our own home. Uprooting Braylee would be so hard unless we had something significant to gain. Having good doctors is also vital to what you need and they don’t always come easy so you’re right to stay put. The other neat thing about online friendships is that you have a larger pool of people to connect with and if you have very specific or more rare things, you’re more likely to be able to connect with someone who is more closely related to your situation if that is what you’re seeking. Love how you guys got to spend time with your people ❤️ like you said your village can be virtual but every so often the in person village is important too... it was subtle but loved Priscillas reaction to B saying Abbie ❤️... and I’m disappointed David wasn’t vlogging when he slipped outside getting the coffee 😂... which made me think of that Halloween David fell and dropped his phone 😂 hysterical (Sorry David I’m laughing at your expense lol) I’m so glad you guys had such a great vacation... can’t wait to see the next vlog.

Lol, David "Florida has fireplaces?" Lol, yes we do, it gets quite cold here maybe 2 times a year. Then of course there are Floridians like me who at Christmas time, even if it's 70+ degrees, must have our fireplace going so we light it AND turn on the air conditioner 😂😂😂

It’s also a very old house so they had them for before heating I’d imagine. I mean there’s something about a fireplace that gives ambiance to a room, especially with a fire lit.

Hi Wee Family!! Found you through Fatheringautism and am so thankful for it! You brought me to ugly tears when you mentioned a 'virtual community's. I've been struggling with this for 27 years. My oldest is Adam and hes the 27 yr old. He would be considered very high functioning as opposed to aspergers( I'm one who feels there is a difference). Our younger son, Matthee, is very low functioning...an angel in disguise...and is 25. He can speak to the point of getting his needs met. I must say that they are both still learning every day. They are, of course, the loves of my husband's and my life. But...back to the tears. Socially, I've been quite alone for years. Trying to develop relationships/connections with both groups is nearly impossible. There needs to be 2 of me to bond with other autism parents as well as other 'norm' families. 27ish years ago there wasnt as concrete place for us. I can go on and on.. as long as the years have been , but just know I feel your frustration and thank you so much for saying it really is okay for my circle to be other autism parents. You've got me hooked now! If you had to do it...you've been given the right time to travel the road. ABA was really only a concept for us and not very highly regarded. Thankful that you're all involved at this time of change and understanding of it being just as vital to use alone or in conjunction with others. At least you have a choice!! Love to you all. Patti❤

Thank you so much for sharing your story and telling about your boys with us! I imagine it was much different when they were younger and I bet that was so hard! Especially with two kids who are in different places developmentally. We can only hope that as time goes on community and resources are getting better and technology is allowing us to connect with one another more easily. I hope that you no longer feel alone and have found community! It makes such a huge difference ❤️❤️

So happy Braylee is having fun! I hope she does the whole time you are in Florida. Enjoy the warm weather before you have to go back to the cold! I live in western Pa. and visited my parents in Florida for Christmas when my oldest was 16 (he is now 38) . They used to go for the winters and back here after it got warmer. But now it is just my mom so she stays here. We loved it but I have no desire to live there all the time it is nice to visit but I like my four seasons. Not real thrilled about cold and snow but that’s ok. Love your family have fun!

I'm so happy you had such a amazing time and I would love to see Braylee on the plane home, I'm a little behind on my vlogs because there has been a storm here and as we live in a tiny village the power has been going on and off, but really I'm looking forward to watching the Disney vlog 😁 it's always been my dream to have a home with a open fire, my hubby has always said no because it would end up being him cleaning it out and getting the coal/logs in, it's so nice having friends that are in a similar situation that you are in, I've got a group chat of five friends that are all infertile like me so when we're having a tough day there is always someone there that knows how I feel and can help lift up my mood, I wish my friends in the chat lived nearer to me but they are around 5/6 hours drive away and with neither me or the hubby driving it's hard to get together, I've been talking to one of my girls for 7 years now, around four or five times a week and we've only met in person once, hopefully one day we can all meet up and go somewhere for the day, somewhere without kids around, I do love fathering Autism, they are the sweetest family around, watching Braylee and Abby together melts my heart, I remember the vlog where Braylee was having a tough time and Abby gave her some slime, super sweet, I love a good storm, that's my perfect weather, I've been slept out in a tent in the back garden while a storm like that one was happening, definitely my happy place, I was wondering if you could help me, during some of your vlogs you say that another video is on the screen *Up here* I don't have access to a computer and watch all your vlogs on my kindle and it doesn't show those videos that you mention, is it possible that you could put the link in the description as well? thank you again for sharing your family with us all.

Don’t worry, the Disney and travel home vlogs aren’t up yet. We are a little backlogged with all the footage we got during our trip! A good “problem” to have I think 😄 It is hard to not be able to see your friends but knowing that they’re there for you can be so valuable. It would be amazing if you all got together!! Hard to think that time with slime was almost 2 years ago and when we first met in person. I’ll ask David if he can add those in descriptions 🙂👍🏻

Thank you, it happens on all the vlogs I watch not just on yours and I have no idea why it doesn't come up, hey it only took me two years to figure out why I couldn't sign onto KZfaq until I realised that we were hacked and someone was writing mean nasty comments so we were removed from KZfaq lol, a new email account later and I'm commenting all over the place lol it's just hard when someone describes a vlog and says it's up here but not mention the name of vlog, I've spent ages hunting down one vlog and ended up giving up and missing out, I did start watching all your vlogs from the start and I think I'm almost caught up, just one of the benefits of being disabled and not allowed to work is I get to spend some days just watching vlogs all day 😀

I recently found your family here we are from Minnesota too. :) We have a high functioning autism son. Minnesota has great services if you live in the right areas. We are in an autism dead zone. We have to drive a ways for autism help. I'm glad you guys have the right set up for your girl there is nothing wrong with being happy where you are. -Tanya

We love having other Minnesotans here 👍🏻 We are in St. Cloud area. We have good resources here especially with our waiver. We do travel though to the cities for some things as we don’t have as many options right nearby but it works out for us!

It really hit home when you said your tribe can be virtual. My son is in the process of being evaluated for autism and speech delay. We are a military family and are currently in Alaska. As we are going through this process I have felt alone and that we haven’t really built up any friendship here and have no real support. I also completely understand not wanting to move because of established care. I am still getting my son set up with therapists and school it seems like it has been an up hill fight. I dread having to do it again in 1 to 2 years, when we will be moving again.

After we moved here initially we had to re-learn how to navigate all these things because each state is differentZ I will say that since we already the actual diagnosis it was probably easier than it would’ve been without. It’s hard to uproot and re-establish that. Virtual tribes are just as good and sometimes the better option 💕

There have been times when virtual community is all we could get so we do what we can with what we have as well. It also makes the possibility of finding people easier since it expands the number of people. 🙂

Sometimes having a gaggle of real people around can be to much...Enjoying the time you have with B and the focus on your family is now...maybe in the future you will have more meet ups and traveling and your social circle will widen with that? I think your thoughts are right on target. Stabilizing her life and yours for the future seems the most important goal for now. You two are amazing...and looking much more rested which I imagine is an amazing thing in your lives..LOL

It sounds nice to be close to our friends but we also have a lot of friends and family in Colorado that we left to get better set up for B too. Moving was hard, but the best choice that we made

The Wee Family yes it is hard to leave friends and Braylee has a wonderful school and she loves the snow. You all are so blessed to have friends in both places. You can just vacation in Florida to see friends and family. Whatever is the best for B is what matter and you and Stacey are such amazing parents to Braylee she is so lucky to have you both.

You want to look at what is best for your family and daughter. You need to look at what schools and services are best for her. You would have a huge support group. Bus trips in the Weebus.

That’s what we try to do! For now, we are really good where we are at and she has the things that she needs. I never say it won’t happen for sure because every time I’ve said that about something in the past, it ends up happening 🤦🏻‍♀️

I lived in Tampa for 3 yrs. in the early 80's. Oldest daughter was born there. I hated it and was so homesick for Indiana I cried everyday. Now that I'm older and have terrible arthritis head to toe (Drs. say they have done what they can.) I sometimes think about being where it's warmer to get away from the Indiana winters. Probably won't though because of kids and grand kids being here.

The winters are definitely long here but the heat gets so intense out in Florida. My mom has bad Rheumatoid arthritis so the cold can be rough on her as well.

@@TheWeeFamily - Let me say this. I moved from Pgh to Florida. I'd hate the heat IF there was no AC. But every place in Fl has A.C. Picture being able to wear flip flops year round. Picture being able to have your daughter outside more. At theme parks, lakes, parks. Year round!! People are imprisoned by weather up north. I don't like the politics here, but I try and bring the change!!! Look at the quality of support Abbie & Ella have. They are never forced to stay indoors. They are on the go 24/7. If you are happy- I'm happy for you!! But if the thought of moving here is pulling at you- do it sooner than later. Also everyone visits me here!! It feels like a vacation for me. I raised my son here. Sports year round. Never a dull moment.☺

It’s definitely easier for us to have her sleeping through at least a majority of the flight because it is a long time to stay seated and entertained, but she’s really become a great traveler!! Transitions and new experiences have become a very routine part of life for us and she does really well most of the time

We couldn’t afford to live in Colorado anymore and were struggling to buy a house. The cost of living is better here and we have had a great experience with resources and were able to buy a house here. David has some family here and grew up here (up north) too.
