Whale video! We love a giant whale. :) Here close up wildlife encounter. Sperm whale sequence (Sperm whale kisses free diver) from our natural history film "Last Giants of Europe".
On our sailing trip from northern Norway to the Azores, we met a group of socializing sperm whales. While our boat was slowly drifting, the whales came closer towards us. We carefully entered the water and got those incredible underwater shots when a sperm whale checking up Birgitta with her clicking sound.

Whales are like the elephants of the sea. Giant, lumbering, ridiculous looking things -- but very sweet, nurturing, empathetic creatures who are incredibly smart and, usually, surprisingly kind towards a species that has butchered them to near-extinction. I can't help but think the world would be a better place if we were more like them.

+Chiasa Takahashi - I was like you up until recently. I'm Serbian, which means I come from a landlocked people who have no history or connection with the sea. I was scared of the sea for most of my life. Even the thought of it seemed just to scary for me and I just didn't want to know it. I've been on the beach plenty of times, but the force of the sea just seemed so formidable. I felt like it was a lonely place... inhospitable, dangerous and friendless. But through the internet, someone reached out to me. I made a friend in the sea... they call him Humpback Whale. Now, the sea doesn't seem so scary. I would love to meet a hb in the flesh. I know it would be OK. It's safe wherever they are. I suggest making a habit of watching lots of whaley videos, and there's lots of hb song on KZfaq. Nowhere seems so scary when you have friends. Trust me, they don't bite and I somehow know somewhere inside my soul that they will look after you Good luck.

If you ever come across the spermwhales again, try do some playful movement in the water, like spinning or summersault, and turn your back to them for a bit. Then I am pretty sure you will get another level of interaction with them. If you just stay in the water looking straight at them, you will unintentional give them the 'predatorial stare.'

Holy fuck, these things are so insanely amazing. Imagine having the largest brain in the world. Their audible "clicks" can sometimes be so earshattering that they can be heard by other Sperm whales 1000 kilometers away and if you're freediving right next to one of these intellectual behemoths and they decide to let out an all-out assault against your ears, your entire body is going to be fucking rattled so hard it'll turn to jelly and your limbs will be paralyzed for hours. But luckily if the pod is nearby they don't usually get that loud, still it's dangerous to research and observe these guys, freediving is the best way as they aren't too keen on ROVs or even scuba gear. And they don't do captivity, so lucky for them they won't have to witness the horrors of forced imprisonment. FUCK SEAWORLD. Never go there. Always protest that fucking prison if you get the chance.

Those belly rolls had me tearing up. Maybe it's my familiarity with dry-land mammals that maybe makes me mis-interpret this body language, but I'm sensing "It's cool, I trust you (aren't a threat).

Sperm whales are the loudest creature on the planet. Iv heard that some of their clicks are like gunshots and are so loud that if a diver is close enough it can burst the divers ear drums.
