When they announced the Morgan Rielly suspension, an RDS reporter in Montreal said the Leafs have a great record without him....he added that Rielly is a very talented defenseman who creates offence at both ends of the rink....LOL!

Something odd I noticed looking at the Leafs schedule: since the start of 2024 they have played 5 games against Eastern Conference teams. They don’t play another east team again until March 2nd. So only 5 in 2 months. Now from the 2nd until the end of the season they play 1 Western team (Edmonton) Basically they pretty much played the West for 2 months and will have to play the East for 2 months now. Super weird scheduling. I’ve never seen it so lopsided.

As a lightning fan, Matthews is the best goal scorer i have seen, if he can stay healthy I think he does have a shot at the goal record he is gifted man.

Mike Bossy: . He tied for the record for most 50-goal seasons with Wayne Gretzky and Alexander Ovechkin with nine, though his were consecutive as opposed to Gretzky's and Ovechkin's being non-consecutive; he thus is the sole record-holder for most consecutive 50-goal seasons. And of those 9, 5 of them were 60+ goals.

I have a take for you: Going by how much softer Dubas has made the Penguins and by how much grittier The Leafs are this season, maybe Shanahan told him what types of players he had to acquire at the deadline last year and he originally was trying to sell the farm for Karlsson and/or other soft talent. 🤔

Okay, your picture has Mr Ovechkin in second, but the problem for poor Ovechkin is that he had to go it alone those first 3 years. No Backstrom until the 3rd year - 69 points in 82 (Syomin had 73 points in 77 games the prior season). He carried the team as a Russian and had to do his own dirty work.

I rewatched that Iggy V Phaneuf almost fight. It was in Toronto and Iggy was playing for Colorado. Iggy and Phaneuf squared up and both had the gloves dropped and then the linesman (not both originally just one) got between them and broke it up. I know Toronto plays in a quiet barn but the boos that immediately rang out would have been almost enough to drown out Steve’s yelling even at his moms house. That fight would have been epic given the personal bad blood.

Skipped to the Preds part cause I’m a Preds fan. Adam nailed it. Bruno and Trotz are playing hardass about this team. The problem is, Barry stripped it bare. Surely Barry doesn’t think the team he iced this season is actually good? I get being a hardass if you have a good roster that’s playing lazily, but this roster just straight up isn’t good so I don’t get it.

Like Adam said, I was thrilled that the Preds are even fighting for a spot. I was fully prepared for a bottom 10 season and looking at the draft. Punishing a team that is playing above its pay grade is a little ridiculous to me.

Nashville were expected to be a bubble team this season. As long as they have Saros and Josi, playing on probably the worst ice in the NHL at home, they have a chance. Adding O'Reilly just made them a bubble playoff team with a good centre. I don't think a lot of people expected St Louis to be up this far in the standings.

1:18:13 As the authority of all things dorky, professionalism is a vibe. There's something admirable about the "strictly business" type, but that's more of a organizational culture/philosophy than a team identity. We often talk about how teams have an identity - the Bruins and Panthers beat the crap out of you, the Leafs and Oilers are largely built on their offense, etcetera. The Islanders, like all Lou teams, are built on a hard-nosed defense and strong goaltending. That's their vibe. An organizational culture steeped in '80s self-help book cliches isn't the reason the Islanders are struggling. They're just not as good due without Trotz behind the bench. It's the same thing that happened in Washington. Roy's got a lot of work to do on the Island

IIRC, the Mullet arenas' seating capacity is lower for NHL games because they had to remove seats for the cameras and TV equipment.

The thing I hate about Lou is that if you are a 29 year old superstar and your owner happens to hire Lou as the GM all of the sudden this guy forces you to shave your beard even though he has no say, control, or power over your career? Like if a 26 year old Jamie Benn gets Lou as a GM after he gets the art ross is he shaving? And if he doesn't what is Lou going to do? Lou's only option is trade him away or abandon your prehistoric practices. Lou's rules don't instill discipline and professionalism it instills resentment.

An interesting history note, St Louis brought in Brendan Shanahan and the next season shipped out Adam Oates which infuriated Hull.

5k is a deceptively short distance to non-runners. A decently in shape person who has been running for a few years could conceivably be running a 5k in ~20 minutes. Certainly under 30 minutes, potentially into the 15-20 range.

Benoit and the Ducks: Anaheim has great defensive depth. Remember this is the team that thought Drysdale was expendable to bring in Cutter Gauthier. Benoit has made every moment on the Leafs count but that has more to do with the Leafs depth on defense than his play. Any other team Benoit would be a 6-7th energy guy at this point in his career.

Devils have been linked to Hanifin too, and basically every goalie too but Daws has been playing great so idk if overpaying for a 34 yr goalie or a "big money" goalie is the right move. But you guys keep saying they need a RHD? Hanifin is line 2 for the flames so idk what your talking about lower in the lineup.

I loved watching the Toronto game the other day and I finally found my player who I am going to follow on this team. Jesse Compher is just awesome and I really enjoyed seeing her score her first ever PWHL goal and hopefully next year we will be able to get Toronto jerseys with players names on them!!

As a Ducks fan, Simon Benoit was NOT a fumble. I liked the guy, but there was no way he had a future here due to the influx of young and much more talented D-men such as Mintyukov, Zellweger, LaCombe, Luneau, etc. Add in the fact we added more much seasoned and tough vets such as Gudas and Lyubushkin, he simply had no spot on the team anymore.

Dangle, the minute u said Hull and Hull's stats, without mentioning Oates, as his Center, you didn't see what the Stats were. Hull had 228 goals in 231 games. Then the 'dropoff' for Mr Hull, no disrespect meant. If Mr Matthews can get 228 goals in 231 games, then Mr Matthews will be in the same category as Mr Hull. But to Mr Oates credit, that's part of Mr Oates totals too. St Louis traded Mr Oates away and broke up 228 goals in 231 games, or almost 31% of Hull's goal scoring in a 20 year career, and GM for St Louis trades Oates away (C Janney and S Quintal - were not Oates).

If u look at beginning of the season. The blues could never reach 25 shots in games until the coach change happened. Andddd this team is bad. Im tired of getting the old vets we need younger guys. That hayes trade is so bad. We need a new GM next season
