Күн бұрынThis richly spiced Apple Pie served with a brandy creme Anglaise from the fall chapter of MY BOOK is a delicious celebration of autumn. The crisp butter crust is spiced with cinnamon and spiked with apple brandy. And those leaves look so impressive but are beyond easy! I have ALL my favorite spices in this pie and while you can use any of your favorite baking apples I would suggest you use some soft ones to really get that lovely play of textures with the pie and pourable custard. I met John yesterday at Bookends! My friend and I got our cookbooks signed and got a chance to talk to him for a few minutes along with our pictures taken! He is as awesome in person as he is on his videos! Such a sweetheart! Can't wait until I try out some of his cookbook recipes!

Ah, custard, I’m from the UK and it’s a staple in many of our desserts, especially something like apple pie, it’s amazing, I’m with you John, spread the word!……this is the most amazing apple pie I’ve ever seen, looks outstanding and I look forward to making it myself, from your book! In america, ice cream has always been the popular choice for such things. with really rich things like peacn pie, I use UNSWEETENED whipped cream, it takes down on some of the icky sweetness.

My overall favorite apple for literally everything is pink lady. Firm and sweet tart, perfect for eating or baking. They made showstopping pies for the last few years since I discovered them.

Yes! Pink Ladys are my favorite too. I live in the Mid Atlantic & just bought a bushel! They keep well over most of the winter. John’s Granny Smith/Honeycrisp combination would be excellent too. New Englanders love McIntosh, but they must need a colder climate than Maryland & Virginia.

How lucky am I!? I received my long-awaited book yesterday and selected this pie to make first! As I had it open on my counter, I checked to see if it was maybe included in your excellent instructional videos. Yeah! Great recipe and a great video. Our family weekends have enjoyed many other dishes from your recipes and I can't wait for them to see and taste this UNIQUE apple pie, which I'll make with apples they gathered from their tree and asked me to include in this weekend's family dinner. We went to an Orchard last weekend and upon our return, I made this AMAZING pie! It is the best I’ve made. I highly recommend it. The apple filling combine with the apple reduction is a great combination. I served it with the cream anglaise and this will paired also very well with vanilla ice cream. This will be part of our Thanksgiving menu. Thank you John!

My daughter-in-law and I made this pie this past weekend and BAEBEEE let me tell you… IT WAS AMAZING! We followed the recipe to the tee! From the crust to the filling even down to the leaf cutouts, the pie was perfect. We took pics of the process and I'm glad that we did because no one would ever believe that we made this beautiful pie ourselves and didn't purchase it from a fancy bakery🤣🤣 We followed the recipe from his book while the video played in the background for additional support🤣🤣🤣. I love the cookbook and the videos are a bonus. Can't wait for the next cookbook!! Thank you JOHN KANELL❤❤

John, I couldn't agree with you more about Creme Anglaise. I was introduced to it in 1968 while in Britain. It seems like they use it like we use whipped cream. Absolutely delicious.

Made this last night and, if you don't like apple pie, you have to at least make the pastry,! I have tried so many recipes and this is the absolute best! The filling is also delicious but I think I used to too much orange because I ended up with a wonderful, Christmas-spice, orange flavoured apple pie. I used 1 large naval so maybe they are stronger than mandarins. Also, please don't hate me John, I've been wanting to make an apple caramel for a while and decided to split the syrup into 2. Half went in the pie and the other half, I added a bit of butter and cream to. It again is more orange flavoured, but it is magnificent! I can't wait to try it with ice cream!

I got my book also on Tuesday, and am loving it. I kept checking for the Amazon truck to get here, like a child waiting for Santa. On reading some of the reviews on Amazon, I was upset with some negative comments, where people were upset that the recipes were different from those on his channel. To me that is an enhancement of those offerings. Why would anyone buy a cookbook that gives the same recipes that are available at no cost? The recipes are exciting and not over the head of most readers/users.
