Typical of imported parts that dont fit correctly could be bad quality control possibly. Sometimes these parts guys send the wrong parts too happens all the time .They look the same but have subtle differences. Anyhoo glad you fixed it nice job!

I see why they call it the spider assembly. So glad you were finally successful. I know working in the Florida heat is horrible especially on a Van. It makes working on outboard a cake walk.

So glad you were able to sort Vanna out and get her running again. Autozone has sold me parts they said would “fit” in the past. It just adds to the frustration when something is supposed to fit and it doesn’t. Well at least the 4.3 gods were blessing you this time. Hopefully you never have to take any of that apart ever again!

I have owned 3 Chevy vehicles with the 4.3 L V6 engine. The 4.3 V6 is a good engine, the main issue for me was the spider fuel injection failures. My 1990 Chevy Cheyenne pickup had the 4.3 L with the throttle body injection and I put over 300,000 miles on it with zero problems! But my 1993 and 1994 S10 Blazers had the spider injection units and they both failed before 100,000 miles. There used to be a shop called Linder Fuel Injection service that rebuilt factory AC Delco units to better that factory spects and took care of a few of the factory defects including the fuel pressure regulator which is factory riveted to to the spider housing and is not serviceable. Hope all is well for you now. Vans can be a real pain to work on as you found out. For that reason I prefer a pickup with a camper shell to work out of because you don't have to hear or smell all the stuff banging around in the back, and engine access is much better in a pickup.

I refuse to shop autozone. I have a 00 safari and had a 99 Astro. Exact same engine and everything. But for whatever reasons autozones parts I always have issues with for this engine. But advanced is not that good of products but works. But everything I buy from O’Reillys I haven’t had any issues or problems with and haven’t had to go back and replace a single thing yet.

I've replaced my spider twice and am still getting a check engine light for a random misfire. Rock auto won't give me my money back and I have literally replaced everything on this engine and still get a misfire. It's a 2001 Astro van with the 4.3. It only has 132k miles and runs like a champ. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get the factory rebuilt ones.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 2 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Don't know if you've been watching this entire ordeal with the van but I also got a misfire code towards the end, but it wasn't from the injectors. The injectors were fine until I pulled the intake out to change the gaskets. I'm sure I cracked that line while I was cleaning the intake and it just went unnoticed. Anyway the misfire code was from the intake gasket leaking water and getting to the piston. It had been leaking for years but not getting to the pistons until now, and I kept putting it off because it's such a pain in the azz to work on. It ended up getting Hydrolocked from water getting in the valves and then hydrolocked again with fuel from the broken injector line. So I had to replace the injectors too. When I got the van it was full of stop leak sludge from a previous owner, now I know why. Anyway, just my opinion on your situation is that swapping the injectors again won't help. After two sets and you still have a misfire I would lean towards the intake gaskets. You can try some of the Bar's Leak for intake manifolds and see if the code clears. The gaskets are routine maintenance on these things due to the design of the engine. Instead of changing the engine design they changed or upgraded the gaskets. Pull the plugs out and check the color, you may see one looks a little cleaner from water getting in. Mine all looked great until the very end and no misfire codes, then the oil started getting water in it. I almost broke down AGAIN at a busy intersection. Not a good feeling. Anyway just something to think about. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

Hey thanks again for videos on this. I’m still dreading mine. I read several posts to just pony up and buy the OEM injectors due to the fit issues and failures out of the box. OEM good for 200K seem like. Wild those gaskets turned to shit ?? I have to wrap up my Johnson 28 spl then I’ll start buying parts to do the job.

Anyone able to answer a question, I have a 1996 astro van and I just bought it and was told it was over fueling, it doesn't accelerate much and obviously feels bogged and I had it pedal down not going more than 5-10 mph, would a good start be to replace the injectors? Or lines or what should I do
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Күн бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. I would start at the fuel pump and filter. Over fueling sounds weird, sounds more like Under fueling- check your fuel delivery pressure- get a chiltons service manual at any auto parts store- go through the entire fuel system- any service manual should help- get a code reader to check engine codes, they're cheap on ebay, harbor freight- you have to start with the basics. Don't just start throwing parts at it. a code reader will be a big help- if you can get it to an auto parts store they will check it for free.

Stick with ac delco parts for your gm vehicle, and you’ll never have these issues. The extra cost is worth the time savings up front, and on the back end when you have to replace that cheap Chinese crap again in the future when it breaks again.

Years ago I decided I was done working on my vehicles, and the way to do that was to buy nothing older than a year. After having the last 3 totaled by others lack of knowledge on how to drive-pulling across the hiway in front of me-I'm back to staying with something older. Spent twice the purchase price on suspension parts when I bought it, installed everything, and this ol' F150 longbed has treated me right. Now let them pull across the hiway with me traveling 55-60, not going to be trying to lie saying my dash cam is wrong-pukes will be dead and I won't be hurt as badly. Dirty-thirty is back! Does he know how nice of an outboard he gave ya yet???

What is your overall opinion of the Chevrolet astro van
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 2 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. How much time do you have? Hahaha I could go on for days! The 4.3 Vortec is a good motor, IF you do the Routine Maintenance. I always liked the look of these things, while shopping around for one I noticed how cheaply made they were, broken door handles, dashboards all swollen up and separated, stuff like that. But that's the way things are these days. CHEAP! My 2005 was the last year they made them, it has the tow package, 6 lug wheels and disc brakes all around. It had problems but not to serious so I snagged it for only 1300. I did a major tune up on it 1st thing. What a pain in the azz to work on! You have to take the front wheels off just to change the spark plugs. I'll take my 84 Chevy G20 cargo van over this thing anyday! I put new heads on it with no problem, plenty of room there. So overall, Major Pain to Work On, but if you keep up with the Maintenance, it will last. Someone commented that 70% of these have gone 400 thousand miles plus, but so did my G20. I guess the 70% were the ones that did the routine maintenance ! Thanks again & Stay tuned !

AUS sound like ding-dongs; make'em eat that part. Looked like those plastic end tubes were at least .040 over in dia. Ah, the clear-flood start feature, I've been starting my 210k mile Explorer like that since 150k to get the oil pressure up on the day's first start. About a 5 sec. crank then let off the pedal. Keeps the battery well exercised. Also pumps up the cam-chain tensioners. Gotta hand it to you with all the fortitude you've exercised in multiple tear-down rounds with only moderate expressions of frustration & disgust (that got recorded). At age 14 I read a few lines in some coffee-table Billy Graham book: "Persistence leads to success." You're the holy roller of Van-a White surgery. Makes an old vehicle hard to sell one day, all that blood & sweat in it...
