This movie's too gory, intense and hardcore in parts to be set in the Christopher Reeves' Superman Universe, though. It is kiddie and hammy in parts now that I look back, but as a child when this came out, this was really something, I mean how brutal and violent it was - the intensity was the element of it that stuck with me, and the sequels, even though the third movie is tamer in terms of loss of blood and injury. Knowing Sam Raimi and his dark comedy/supernatural horror movies and style, it's not surprising, very unique and amazing that he got his way on these movies for the most part.

In 2002, it was just incredible seeing a costumed superhero on the big screen. Burton's Batman was cool. But then you had a decade of Bat-nipples, Steel's rubber "steel", X-Men's uninspired leather, etc. So when Spider-Man actually looked and moved like Spider-Man, it was amazing.

Obviously, whether JJJ is a psycho or a jerk with a heart of gold depends on the writer. But, I always felt the version of J Jonah Jameson that beneath all the rage and prejudice is a decent and heroic guy who isn't all talk has become increasingly important. He shows that just because we don't like someone or their opinions it doesn't mean they're a bad guy.

Usually when he pops up on the radio he's just being the usual rant about spidey asshole, but when the mercenary group starts violating citizens rights he's the first guy to sound the alarm. He's not really using a different mindset or anything so it goes to show that a mindset can be both wrong and right.

It has it's goofy camp but above all else it's got personality. Most movies today have zero charm and lack unique style. Raimi's strength has always been in his bold creative choices, some which land, some which don't. Spiderman 2 is the perfect example of those bold choices paying off in spades with strong storytelling. The effects of this film have aged pretty poorly but there's still moments that more than hold up today. I don't get the criticism that they're not 'gritty' enough. Raimi knows how to get dark and violent when he chooses to be. The final fight with the Goblin is still to this day the most brutal PG-13 fight scene in any superhero movie. Not even Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy had anything that intense. I guess to understand Raimi's 'style' you have to understand his beginnings as an indie horror filmmaker. Evil Dead teeters between horror and comedy with a wacky experimental aesthetic. That unique sensibility is what brought his Spiderman films into a special realm no other director has really done since.

Consistent? Yeah. Charming? Definitely. Timeless? Ehh, despite being somewhat contemporary, a lot of the Raimi trilogy’s content wouldn’t hold up today. Take the Daily Bugle for example. Not many people read newspapers or find a newspaper company practical (whether or not it is). In Spider-Man: Far From Home, the Daily Bugle was changed into an “internet news channel”. It’s more familiar to people while maintaining the concept: harsh criticism to a particular topic. The Raimi movies are good, but wouldn’t be as great today as they were back then.

I watched the original trilogy when I was a kid. I loved it back then, and I love it today. Spider-Man is my favorite superhero, and I love everything with him in it. The original trilogy? Loved it. The Amazing films? I liked the first one, and even thought the second one was passable, if ever so barely. Spider-Verse? Loved it. The MCU Spider-Man? My favorite iteration. Spider-Man was my first exposure to the world of superheroes. He was and still is my favorite hero, and I will love him in everything he is in.

Same here dude!!!! I grew up with the Raimi movies they were my introduction to the world of superheroes and then even the Webb movies I grew up with as I got older and then the MCU Spidey is where we are now of course. Definitely my favorite Spider-Man is Tom Holland for tons of reasons but one of the main reasons is that he's great at both Peter Parker and Spider-Man!!! While Tobey is my second favorite Spider-Man,he's a great Peter Parker but not a great Spider-Man IMO!!!!! Garfield was a great Spider-Man but not really a great Peter Parker!!!! But like I said about Tom,he's great at both!!!!!!! And of course Spider-Verse is a freaking phenomenal movie!!!!!!

There's dark, and then there's stupid dark where stupid decisions cause dark situations. Man of Steel is stupid dark, particularly in moments like how Superman didn't lead Zod out of the city like any other iteration of Superman would've done, and instead proceeded to crash through buildings and kill more people that might've survived that whole mess.

@jacobsmith4428 4 жыл бұрын
@@socklock1957 I'm failing to see that as an argument considering that 1, it's not his first fight, as this is his final bout after dealing with multiple Kryptonians at once alongside a terraforming machine that already reduced a good amount of the city to rubble, and 2, Zod swore his unending need to destroy Superman before the fight began, meaning he would've chased him to the ends of the earth if he just chose to leave the city. There was zero reason for Superman to let the fight go on any further in the city. He could've flown off to a desert, the arctic tundra, or someplace where there was nobody that could die from their fight. Iterations before and after Man of Steel's Superman are all aware of their powers and how much of a danger it is to innocent lives caught in the crossfire, so why does that moment of dumbassery deserve any slack?

Spectacular Spider-Man did a great job showing the growth of animosity between Jameson & Spider-Man. It wasn’t personal at first, but then papers with Spidey sold out while no one cared that the Bugle covered Jameson’s astronaut son safely landing a space shuttle after it almost blew up. Then Jameson’s son got exposed to alien junk that made him a giant & go nuts, and Spider-Man had to help arrest him.
