Spider-man taught me how to have good morals. I related to him so much because I used to get bullied and if I see anyone else get bullied I would step in. There's a lot more that I can say about how I feel connected to this character but that'll take time. To me he's not only my favorite superhero, but he truly is an inspiration and even an idol tbh.

I can relate almost entirely with spider-man. I was bullied and whenever i stepped up, i was beaten down harder making me feel like it didn't matter what I did it wasn't helping so I stopped trying to be the help. I watch this video almost everyday and it makes me feel bad to know that I gave up on helping because of my insecurity, and I'll watch this video again and again and continue to read spider-man to try regain the confidence that I lost long ago so I can feel like a bit of a hero again.

It's amazing what an impact a fictional teenage boy in spandex can have on people. Spider-Man has helped me cope with the struggles of life. I've always found the financial struggles most relatable because it makes me realize I'm not the only teenager in the world who has to accept the fact that potential doesn't always outweigh luck.

This was a great video and really detailed how great Spider-Man is as a character. The only missteps I saw in the video were two things: 1. The video didn't really touch on one of Spider-Man's most defining traits, his will. Out of all the hero's in the Marvel universe, Peter has probably one the most unbreakable wills, his strive to never gives up, no matter how daunting the task or how powerful the enemy. 2. While it is true he became a better person from learning the "With great power, there must also come great responsibility" mantra, and he does strive to prove himself, he isn't in it for himself, he isn't playing hero, and he most definitely isn't trying to do the right thing only because he carries a fear of another Uncle Ben incident happening again. He does the right thing because that's what he believes in. Peter Parker is probably one the greatest examples of someone being an inherently good person, who (when it comes down to it) cares little more about anything other than doing the right thing and keeping the ones he cares about safe. While yes, he was going down a more selfish path before he lost Uncle Ben, that event not only put him back on the right path and set his destiny going forward, it also added fuel to the fire of who he already was, he just needed something to bring it out of him.

I gotta disagree with one point of this video. That we shouldn't look up to Spider-Man cause he's not as good as the other heroes. You're right. He's better than them. That's the appeal of Spider-Man. He's gone up against foes that usually require a team up and beaten them solo. He defeated Firelord, a herald of Galactus. He's even beaten Thanos before. He's defeated Doctor Doom (a villain the whole FF needs to combine for) on his own numerous times. Until Onslaught came around, Spider-Man held the most decisive victory over the Juggernaunt and came the closest to ending his threat for good.
@mateot6020

And he was clever enough to beat 2 Xmen imbued with the Phoenix force. :)

I get what you're trying to say, but honestly, those are definitely PIS lol. There's absolutely no logical reason why Peter should be able to beat Thanos or Doom when characters much more powerful and smarter than him are unable to.
@ZombieSharky
@ZombieSharky 7 жыл бұрын
Linklex7 You find spiderman appealing because he can defeat larger foes that larger heroes couldn't take on? I mean, we both know how inconsistent different renditions are. That hardly counts as a point. The reason he's not that great of a role model is because he's still learning. A grown adult with years of more experience can't compare to a teenager that's still learning what they stand for. He's not that great of a role model, but his stories relatable and grows as he does. It's like watching an older sibling slip into young adult hood.
@brackets0029
@brackets0029 7 жыл бұрын
I largely disagree with you (who you can beat up does not make you "better," shut up), but I do think that that point of the essay was...incomplete. From an in-universe standpoint, Peter sees himself as not as good as other heroes. I think that's indisputable. I think that Spider-Man _was,_ in the beginning, a teenager playing superhero, but he's grown to fit the costume. Peter aspires to be like the heroes of his childhood. He aspires to be as good as Captain America, Iron Man, or Thor...and in so doing, and without really noticing, he's become the greatest of them all.
@Awesomebaconman123
@Awesomebaconman123 7 жыл бұрын
Linklex7 Depends on the writer, the more down to earth more emotional stories left a bigger impact on readers. Do remember, its not exactly the character that makes the story, its the writers that built upon the idea of the character with new additions or re-dones.

only gripe with this is "with great power comes great responsibility" aren't uncle Ben's words he never said them. that phrase is a lesson peter learned from Ben's death, not a teaching from ben that peter ignored like many people think. Also Spider-man isn't outclassed if he ever actually tried he could take out most of the avengers aside from the megaton level hitters. look at Superior Spiderman when Otto didn't hold back he made the avengers look like fools in combat.

+Stephano Brizzio I think that's a fair assessment. But I mean to casual fans who were young like me these movies were the first real experience I had with Spider-Man I think its fair to accept them as part of the legacy of Spider-Man, regardless of if they're technically canon. IIRC they also temporarily gave him organic shooters in the comics not long after to tie in closer to the movie

I love this video but Spider-Man outclasses *a lot* of Avengers, literally only the serious heavyweights outclass him. He has an IQ of 250. He can lift 20-25 tons. He can run 200mph. He has a spider-sense so powerful he has literally dodged a sniper rifle round from 40 feet. If Spider-Man doesn't want you to hit him, you aren't going to hit him.

+MDCU well in the 2014-ish ASM run (Slott), he took the weight of a jet (stopping it) at abt 50 tons, but there have been other examples that I can't remember off the top of my head. I think, tho, writers intentionally nerf him down to make him more like the everyman, relatable, etc.

I do like that Peter has been allowed to develop, and Parker Industries is in a sense where he should be right now. Otto is basically his dark twin and if Peter wasn't Spider-Man he would have likely gone down that route. That said I'd rather he be in a situation more like Renew Your Vows with MJ and a child.

Truthfully, I think what makes Spider-Man so heroic isn’t that he’s outclassed an unneeded. Spider-Man is outrageously powerful and spidey sense is honestly OP. What makes him heroic is that he’s powerful, but he goes out of his way to help the little people and remain the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. His life would be so much easier if he only acted when the Avengers did. He’s heroic because he treats an alien invasion with the same attention and care as an attempted assault.

I loved the Shakespeare reference. Some who are born great : Superman, an alien sent on earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men, and he finally realizes that earth is his new home and he'll do anything to protect his adoptive planet from disaster. Some who will achieve greatness : Batman, a billionaire orphan whose parents were gunned down by a psychopath, later on he has the resources to set things right in the world, to fight for justice, battle the atrocities that are more powerful than him, but afterwards he'll always find a way to overcome any obstacle that will get in his way of justice. And others have greatness thrust upon them : Spider-Man, a young man whose moral intentions arise when he commits a selfish paragon, even though he's trying to be better, later in his life, he will always find a way to better than what he was when he got this incredible gift bestowed upon him. And others have greatness thrust u

My favorite aspect of Peter is his vulnerability. He suffers so. much. loss. His very origin story is inseparably tied to loss. Whereas Bruce Wayne's loss causes him to seek control of others, Peter's loss prompts him to gain control of himself. And that's a hero I aspire to be.

Spider-Man is much more than just a superhero, he gives every kid who watches the movies, reads the comics, the idea (maybe even the possibility to) that they can be someone someday, they can be important, they can fight back the bullies, they can make girls fall in love with them, they can save that girls life. I know the video means he is not rich/successful scientist/norse god/green monster/war hero but that is also part of his character and what makes him so great. Not only is he powerful due to his powers but also he will find a way to do what is RIGHT without all those abilities the others have, THAT is why he is one of the greatest.

I think he meant outclass in status. The Avengers are seen as heroes while he's seen as a criminal by the public. Yea, we all know he could beat most of the Avengers single handedly like he's beaten the F4 but does he have the high profile in the Marvel Universe itself like them and the Avengers? Not really. So he has to overcome that as well.

I've always felt that Spider-man was so much more than what all the people I meet make him out to be he's been a hero to me my whole life and has inspired me to always try to be responsible and do the right thing no matter what, he's the reason I'm even trying to contact MARVEL so that I can try to audition for the role of him in the upcoming cartoon series.

Solid video but I hate the parts regarding him as "playing superhero" and "trying to be like other heroes". The worst portrayals (and most common) of Spider-Man is when they make him out as some incompetent goofy star struck kid who feels more like a sidekick then a a full on hero in comparison to others. It's like modern writers forgot his original premise:To be a fully fledged Teenage Superhero. MY spiderman is the early 20's young adult dealing with being a protector of his city while trying to support his Aunt AND himself by making peanuts at his day job and STILL trying to keep up in college all while being harassed by bullies and Villains. I know people hate it when writers make Spider-Man "more adult" So they retcon it to make him younger,more quipy etc to try and appeal to kids but I think it adds to the character. Oh and he'd whoop Captain Americas butt in a straight up fight as well :)

Agreed. I prefer the Spiderman I can take seriously. He isn't perfect but he works hard to do the right thing and had earned the respect of other heroes.

SuperMicklovin (Insert THANK YOU! gif) Also, yes, Spidey has the quips and the spirit of youth, but that does not mean he shouldn't be taken seriously. Part of his appeal is that he gets undermined and underestimated because he kind of doesn't even take _himself_ seriously; when in fact, *there is a lot more to him than he lets on*. Not just feats/skills, but also his character/depth/experiences.

No Way Home, really highlights the video's message. At this point Peter is at his lowest, completely alone, and has no reason to keep doing what he does. Yet he still sews together his own costume and jumps out the window the minute he hears trouble. It's definetly an exciting time to be a spiderman fan.

Honestly, I really doubt that any Spider-Man movie will ever get the character as fundamentally right as Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. Sorry, but it just ain't gonna happen. Sam Raimi broke ground in the superhero genre and completely defined who Peter Parker is, the weight of the choices he makes, and how his heroism affects the people around him. No movie is ever going to top the first two Spidey films, period.

This video is right on the verge of being a good video essay. It's well spoken, thought-out and entertaining. My only problem with it is that it doesn't really have anything to say. This whole video I was waiting to get to what the point was and by the end of it all I'm left with is "this is why KaptainKristian thinks Spider-Man is good". You can see it in the comments too; rather than inspire meaningful discussion on the different facets of Spider-Man's personality and why that/they are either a help or hindrance, we get things like "I looooved this video, Spider-man is my favorite superhero!" The video itself is by no means bad necessarily, it's just missing that Campster or HyperBitHero flair of actually having a point/providing a topic for discussion.

I really don't like it when Peter is a supergenius. When he's pretty smart sure but otherwise it distracts from the resonant parts of his story. Raimi had the right idea I'd say.
