I love this concept. If Peter kept the symbiote and tried to reason with it in this story, he could have a suit that could go out on its own to deal with criminals at night while Peter rests, mimicking Peter as he goes and essentially becoming a second Spider-man, and kinda being like an Iron Man patrol suit.

This wasn't possible at the time and technically isn't, even after what Cates added to the canon. The whole point of their species is that they need bodies to do the heavy lifting as they're just sapient ooze. Cates changed that to make things easier for himself.

@@NoirRavenI mean, I think their point might be better put by saying that Venom could take over when Peter sleeps so that he can do the job of Spiderman and Peter can rest as Peter does seemingly get decent rest whilst Venom is using his body. Also, I would really love a storyline where everything happens almost as usual and the conclusion, seemingly, is that the black suit corrupts Peter and that's why he takes it off. But later on in the story, Peter speaks to Venom and comes to the realisation that Venom was basically the equivalent of a toddler whom he taught some very bad coping mechanisms. That he corrupted Venom, not the other way around.

@@The-Like-ButtonI mean, Venom is basically a toddler in the beginning, when it comes to human standards, since he comes from a place where being social isn't a thing and emotions aren't a thing. So, like any toddler, I'm sure one could teach him right and wrong and he would understand it. This whole scenario screams toddler trying to impress dad by using the drill on the car, right? I'm sure he could teach him. Now, I know there are tons of problems with these movies, but Tom Hardy's version of Venom does exactly this. He learns right and wrong from Eddie. I will die on this hill: I love those movies.

I feel like if we ever get another movie with Spider-Man finding venom it would be cool to get a story like this, one where venom isn’t an entity that corrupts people and just something that is misunderstood and trying his best but then gets cast out by Peter and ends up finding Eddie and eventually overcomes his hatred for Spider-Man and becomes his own hero.

This is why it should have bonded with his mind properly and explained itself. If peter understood WHY the symbiote was doing what it was doing, venom would have not turned fully evil. The symbiote also controlled peter and clapped black cats cheeks on a rooftop.. it described the experience as pleasant.

I really love how Peters personality played into venoms early on. Venom is afraid of fire and under normal circumstances wouldn’t even consider going into a burning building, but it knows that Peter wouldn’t have hesitated and goes anyway

I often liken the relationship between Peter and the symbiote to that of a boyfriend and an obsessive ex girlfriend. It might sound weird, but their interactions are super comparable. All the symbiote really wants is Peter to unite with it, and it demonstrates several times that it is trying to do what it thinks is best for Peter. It doesn't really have any malevolence in its actions, and in fact I think its original species are typically benign little dudes that are rather nice; unfortunately, it once bonded with Deadpool and was driven insane as a result. After Peter removes the symbiote, the main reason why it bonded with Eddie Brock was actually because the symbiote wanted revenge after being rejected, and Eddie was the closest host who similarly hated Peter. However, that hate wasn't exactly the same as Eddie, and it actually still had "feelings" for Peter. Peter literally defeats Venom at first by admitting he was "wrong" and that he was better with the symbiote. Eddie mocks Peter and says it's too late, but the symbiote literally begins abandoning Eddie for Peter. Unfortunately, it was a trick, and Peter uses that opportunity to defeat Venom. So really... Like I said, the Venom symbiote is more like a psycho ex girlfriend who loves Peter so much that it hates that they aren't with him, and then they turn that hate towards Peter.

This is kind of wholesome… well until Peter got rid of the Symbiote. Like Green Goblin said, “I offered you friendship, and you SPAT in my face.” That’s exactly how the Symbiote felt after Peter got rid of it. (Also this is my first time I’ve seen this iteration of Venom, but I prefer over the stereotypical evil Venom now.)

This is the original reason Peter took venom off himself. Most adaptations resort to “the symbiote turning him evil” as an excuse to have him take it off, otherwise there’d be no real reason for him to take off the suit

Spiderman 2 spoiler It's insane that this also happened in the game but instead attacked the hunters invading Aunt May's house, and became aggressive to the point the Symbiote was roaring at the Hunters, in sign that the Symbiote was in complete control. Peter eventually stopped and woke up the next day with no recollection of what happened the night before.
