Perhaps the world's greatest maker of "fun" movies, Steven Spielberg grew to phenomenal popularity on a similar timeline with video games. That games would be created celebrating his science fiction and fantasy blockbusters is absolutely unavoidable.
Of course, a beloved movie in no way guarantees a quality video game tie-in, and Spielberg's career stands as one of the great lessons in the perils of overeager licensing.
Join the Nerd as he wallows through a collection of the worst Spielberg-based games ever created in his 101st video game review.

I'll never forget Jaws. I actually called the Nintendo Power Hotline to figure out how to kill Jaws. I shit you not, their response was "You have to kill!" $ 2.99 a minute for that wonderful piece of advice.

Back in 1989 I couldn't figure it out either. I kept hitting/launching the Strobes, whatever the hell they were, to get Jaws to jump out of the water but I didn't realize I was supposed to hit him with that thing on the front of the boat. - Maybe if I had actually seen the movie the game was based on, 'Jaws: The Revenge', I might have figured it out before I had to return the game to the gas station I rented it from.

I loved the cheat code that gave you infinite ammo for the sniper rifle. Super Schindler's List 3D was so ahead of its time.

I think even "realistic" games would do better with more colorful graphics. I mean look at Kerbal Space Program, colorfull, quirky, but hard as fuck and realistic enough to get a job at NASA. (Especially if you have FAR installed)

Speaking of great filmmakers, you gotta appreciate how different eras of the Nerd's series is punctuated by his own trademark camera work. Notice how the 2011 era episodes began with the shot of James looking over behind the couch to the camera. This guy knew how to implement his own signature while remaining entertaining and funny. I know Steven Spielberg and James Rolfe are two different people, but each are both gifted in the medium they bring, for all to enjoy.

It's hard to make a comeback from what was supposed to be the pinnacle, and yes, originally the conclusion to the AVGN series. Rob the Robot was a great entry to James' franchise, and it took balls to return and keep the novelty of these videos going. Here we are a total of more than 13 years later, and he's still going, alive & strong. That's bad ass.

Even though it was simple and Cheesy, it was one of my favorite games to play with my dad growing up, I was born in 96 but he shared his passion for gaming with me then on NES and I haven't stopped since. Love ya dad

This was fucking hilarious. I will say I did enjoy “Jurassic Park” for the Sega Genesis. The graphics were on point at the time and the game play wasn’t bad at all.

The controls are a little wonky, looking back at it, but it is not a bad game at all. That last level, when you see the elevators covered in blood... terrifying for a 7 year old kid.

You know... this might sound stupid, because it is, but when he mentioned this charity I didn't realise Hill Valley was from Back to the Future. You know, this episode sort of marked a point in AVGN. Its like, you can study the period of AVGN between Spielberg Games and Desert Bus, for obvious reasons. You could even try to watch the E.T. episode after this episode, to see how the chronology would have looked like if AVGN had finished his movie earlier.

It's probably been mentioned mentioned before but the NES and SNES games of Jurassic Park are a bit of a mashup between the movie and the book. In the book the characters realize that the Raptors are breeding (a minor plot point in the movie) and that they have to find and destroy the nest before the eggs hatch and the Raptors get off the island. That is why Grant is looking for all those eggs.

There can be games about touchy subject matter. Spec Ops: The Line: War Crimes in the context of games. Bioshock: The breakdown of an objectivist society under real conditions. Deus Ex: About how transhumanism affects a society. Although Bioshock Infinite's attention to racism might not count because that was mostly part of cutscenes or off to the side, it wasn't holistic with of the game.
