They do strike the blades occasionally, Rich. The fish that you hook beneath or under the mouth have done this. Many of The fish you catch on a trailer hook are Hooked this way. That’s why we use a trailer hook 100% of the time in tournaments or when we are really serious about catching most every one that bites!! I’ve always thought the scratches on the inside of the blade was from hitting the hook. When I have a wire down where the blade will hit the hook, it creates scratches. If I bend the wire up, it stops the scratching. That’s usually a good thin, the wire blade ticking the hook. I haven’t seen it on both sides like it would be if it done by fish teeth. Thanks. Teeth marks on the outside of hammered blades are more difficult to see, the concave underside shows them best. Short-arm spinnerbait's blades don't reach the hookpoint.

It doesn’t damage the fish as much! We release and recycle most of what we catch. I’ve been fishing barbless for over 20 years. It really saves a lot of bass when fishing worms. Thanks. May God Bless. jimmy
