I always thought Spiral was one of the more interesting X men villains. I am glad i got to finally learn about her origin story. It is a pity she only made two appearances in the original X men animated series. I was not aware of her connection to the Reavers or Psylocke for that matter. Fingers crossed she gets to be in a future animated movie.

Spiral is one of those characters I was super interested in for a long time and kinda just forgot about. Thats one of the sad things about cool fictional universes. So many cool characters and despite how cool all of them might be there are often too many to latch onto.

I was a kid when I watched X-Men the Animated Series. When Spiral started "dancing..." I thought, "WTF? Did she just have a stroke? Why does she keep spazzing out like that?" They can't really call that elaborate dancing when the animation studio is TRYING to save money by cutting motions to a bare minimum. Her elaborate dancing looked more like she got electrocuted and her arms just started flailing about randomly.

5:25-5:30. Yeah, that’s what they did between Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike in the cartoon, too. They had the two of them as past lovers (They were never lovers in the comics .) before they became adversaries .

I read that her being Ricochet Rita was a retcon. I don’t think that was what they originally had in mind for her (Or Mojo?).

Correct, and to me it was always a bit of lazy writing, Rita and Spiral deserved better.

Nope. Wasn't a retcon at all. She went with Longshot to Mojoworld at the end of the series to help him rebel and in later storylines after Longshot's failed rebellion was a captured amd genetically experimented on and transformed into Spiral. Spirsl returning to capture herself as Rita Hayward/Ricochet Rita is a temporal paradox.

@@LongshotLynx - I know that Ann Nocenti (Her creator.) didn't want Rita to be Spiral, and she was not happy with what eventually became her origin.

@@matthewschwartz6607 Thars interesting to me. I've read a lot interviews of Ann. Only time I can recall her commenting on character development beyoumd her initial writing for Longshot was that she understood one doesn't have to personally accept each writer's version, emphasis, retcon etc. Can you link the interview where she states what you're telling me? Marvel writers know they don't have legacy creative control, influence or expectation of being consulted for the characters they create. Also, so I know you understand, just because Ann may have disliked what became of Spiral's character backstory, it's still not a retcon.

Hmm 🤔 I feel the X-Men villains fall under a spectrum where some are reformed or some have been an ally towards the X-Men. I felt Spiral has aided the X-Men on several occasions where she was more of an ally than an antagonist. Yes some of her actions were against the X-Men but they weren’t has hard compared to other villains. I feel Spiral is kind of on the same spectrum as Callisto leader of the Morlocks but not as bad as say Mr. Sinister or Mystique!
