Just a couple of mins prior to this footage, I was sat in my parked car at Princes Pier (few hundred metres away) when sudden strong gusts of wind with dust and sand swept across the bay from the west. The force of the wind was strong enough to jolt my car side to side, so I decided to leave. That's when I saw the Spirit of Tasmania ferry at a 90° angle as to where it should be (parallel to Station Pier, in Port Melbourne). Several tug boats, VIC Police, Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB), and news crews attended the scene. Nine News arrived in their 4X4, driving over the designated bike track and on to the pedestrian foreshore strip where a crowd of people had gathered - narrowly missing them. Found out later on that the severe winds I had felt earlier at Princes Pier caused the ferry to crash into its vehicle boarding ramp and drift towards the shore after its moorings snapped.
