Beautiful car. My favorite interior spec with the extended triple black. BMW engineering was on a roll. From the M60, to the M62, with Aluminum 4v DOHC V8s, the M62TU giving us single-VANOS to the glorious S62, an M62 with increased displacement, the first V8 to have both Intake and Exhaust VANOS, and the glorious bark that the 8 ITB's give with drive-by-wire comfort and sport profiles on the butterfly valves, which if anyone ever accuses someone of having a 540i dressed up as an M5 all you have to do is listen for the intake sound to give it away. I love the exhaust noise of my 540i, but between the stepless dual VANOS and ITB's, the M5 has a slightly more sophisticated growl. The semi-dry sump oiling system with extra scavenging pumps also seem to make the S62 less susceptible to timing-chain issues arising prematurely. All-in-all it's the pinnacle of the NA BMW V8. I find it interesting that the 540i was so close in the range to the M5 during the E39 generation. The gap between the 545i/550i and the E60 M5 is huge, and you don't often hear of folks cross shopping them the same. Again, brilliant example you have. Cheers bro.
