I am a big fan of Sadhguru but unfortunately with this particular talk I don't agree with him. It is easy for him to be a man and say these things. Let me explain why I agree to disagree with him. My mother was so devoted to my father she never addressed him by his name. They met 57 years ago and got married. It was not an arranged marriage. She treated him like Swamy and was like his slave. She worshipped the ground he walked on. I never once saw her complain how irresponsible or abusive he was. Although I have caught her crying quietly when nobody was watching but continued to serve him as though nothing has ever happened. For the outsiders it always looked like they were so much in love even when I was in my twenties. When I was in my thirties my brother got married and my mother took care of his wife and their children with so much devotion. Then my brother died in his forties and his wife started demanding half the share of my mother's inheritance so she could move out and start a new family. That was the first time my mother objected because she didn't want her grand children move away from her sight. This is when things started going really wrong. My father threw his devoted wife of 45 years out on the street. He made a will and wrote all the property to the daughter in law. She made my mother's life living hell, took everything and still moved out leaving my mother nothing. Now Sadhguru has to explain to me why the sweetness of my mother (inspite of being the devoted wife, mother, mother in law and grand mother) my mother became homeless. My father hired a good lawyer and my mother lost everything. So I struggle to believe that the sweetness of a woman doesn't see her through if she marries a nasty person. Yes she needs to be sweet for her kid's sake but she also needs to be tough and be prepared to walk away from an ugly marriage irrespective of her age. A woman is not a man's property. If he cannot treat her like his equal if his family doesn't respect her when she is sweet, then there is no future in that family no matter how much you try. I have met a lot of young sweet girls in their twenties who are adamant that they have watched their parents fight and have vowed that they will never get married. I bow my head and admire these youngsters for their courage. Marriage is not the beginning and not the end. One can be be contended in their relationship when both the partners try hard to pour their sweetness and respect each other. Hoping that one's own sweetness will convert a nasty person into a sweet person, well good luck with that.
