Today we show you some recent photos of the vegetation compared to ten years ago. Due to massive changes and the implementation of essential measures on-site, the bleak landscape has been transformed into a green oasis.
All images were taken in the wet season to make direct comparisons and the biggest difference comes with the fencing off of the important habitat zones, and thus removal of goats and other livestock. The plants and soil had the time to recover and flow through dams slowed the floodwaters to decrease erosion. Juicy, green "Pinao-bushes," the favorite foods of the Spix, bring back full fruits, waterholes develop and persist longer. More and more often, we observe the large woodpeckers, which as part of there foraging help create future nest holes for the parrots. It is with great joy that we discover a growing number of Illiger macaws, and other parrots spending time and breeding in the newly formed habitat, showing us that it is becoming better and better. Flora and fauna of our nature reserve are getting ready for the return of its birds and ultimately the Spix’s macaw! But see for yourself!

Beautiful. The ACTP is truly an example of how it is never too late to have hope that things will turn out right. May God bless me with the opportunity to see these birds in the wild.👏👏👏👏👏

I am Brazilian and I wanted that the spix macaws family get higher like 1000 individuals before leaving 50 individuals at Caatinga. They are so beautiful to leave just 50 of almost 200 individuals.

Totally agree. there are fare to few Spix to even contemplate release into the wild. I think this is a disaster waiting to happen.
