So, Century Golem is a better game than Splendor in my mind. Even though Splendor is still pretty good. Fight me :)

We actually played Century Spice Road before playing Splendor. We only played Splendor because people we were teaching Century to kept saying, oh it's like Splendor. So we tried it, it was good, but Century still remains our choice of games of the two. Thanks for the reboxing!

@@3MBG Having played Both games quite a few times, I can say I like Century better because it does what Splendor pretends to do. Which is the engine building for trading. Splendor pretends to be an engine builder at first glance but it is actually a "shortest path to X" puzzle game. Ive learned to not compare those two games even tho they seem very similar at first glance.

This is one of our favourite "end of the gaming day" games, and Century Spice. In our 4 player game we have a house rule of playing to 20 points, not 15 which I think works better allowing a little more engine building time rather than every body saving for the larger value cards and doing nothing for turn after turn other waiting for, swapping chips if they are maxed at 10.

I only found out about that playstyle in the last few days. It sounds awful to play that way

I think it is a very good app game. You can play it anywhere with your partner and you will have fun.

I have played the app countless times. At about 10 minutes in length, it is perfect for a little break or while waiting for an appointment.

Forgot to say that if there are only 2 gems of one color, let's say red, you can't take both of them. You can take 1 red and 2 other collors, or 2 of some other color, but as long as there are 2 or less of one color you can't take both.

We love this game - played it first with our gaming friends and had to buy our own copy. As someone who designs jewellery the beautiful art work appeals to me, the rules are super easy to grasp and it's a nice in between or as a warm up game - as it's shortish. We also got the expansion, but haven't played enough with that. and yes the box is quite excessive.

Competitive: actually multiple players can win. I know, I know, so what. This remains one of my favorite games to play, but only with the people I've played with for years - we are in sync and the competition is intense and fierce. And you're right -- just like you say, it makes for great stories after.
@3MBG
@3MBG 4 жыл бұрын
I said it "rarely" makes for good stories in my opinion. The kiwi accent really struggles with that R R sound, so it sounds like "really" to most people. I should have used a different phrase there.
@RobertKonigsberg
@RobertKonigsberg 4 жыл бұрын
@@3MBG oh that's too bad. Because we have some doozies. The Splendor/Century Spice thing, I get it, but Splendor has much more tension to it. Maybe it's just how we played. This was covered recently on bgg, there's a play style that wins often and when everyone plays that way it gets *intense*

We played this at lunch every day for a couple of weeks until everyone got really good at it. Sadly, once you know how to properly value gems based on the buying power of noble cards, the game comes down to "do you get the precise card you needed at the precise moment you could afford to pay for it." The next step is to go with the Century series, get all 3 games, and then enjoy the different ways there are to play that series. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Century trilogy.
@3MBG
@3MBG 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's the procedural feeling I got after a bunch of plays. Century, I have Golem edition and will stick with that, so only 2 are out at the moment. But I will cover them. (the mechanics are identical)

Doesn't there have to be at least four tokens of one color (ex: Red) for a player to take two tokens of that color?

this game is pretty good and particularly good for getting people into board games. There is an expansion set too it contains some descent variants. Never played Century Golem but looks interesting I will add it to my list. I honestly consider Splendor one step up from a simple party game but, it is fun.

One question. Can a development card be used more than once to purchase other cards? Because i found the further you get into the game and collect more and more card, the less you need to used the gems because your able to just grab just about any card you want, unless you can only use the card once to purchase other cards.

Will you be making some "surface strategy videos" at some point? Ive noticed that some games look very complicated and turn very simple once you get to the strats (like roll for the galaxy with shipping and producing being negible actions) Or the other way around, like trying to win splendor in 24 turns or less.

Kia Ora Koutou. Kia Ora is basically "hi" but can also be used as a thank you or an agreement. So you can say Kia Ora when you greet someone, or when they bring you a cup of tea, or when they say something you agree with. "friendly acknowledgment of someone" for want of a better description. Koutou is a plural word. in Te Reo Māori you can use modifiers on some words to change their scope, Koutou is used to refer to everyone. So Kia ora koutou is basically "hi y'all"

@sandropazdg8106
@sandropazdg8106 4 жыл бұрын
There are expansions (Tho I have not played with it), and the game does gets repetitive but in a good way. Once players know how the game is "actually" played it can get very agressive, where a single bad move can cost you the game (and not because of luck). Sort of like chess.
The perfect 20 game collection
