I had to divide some hostas this weekend so I decided to show you step by step how I did that and replanted them in another place in my landscape.

Thank you!! I have heard they’re easy to break and transplant and after your video I’m a believer. We’ve got lots of them in the front yard and now some are going around back. You saved me a lot of money! Thanks

You know, if you get a composter, you can dispose of veg matter from your kitchen AND, in the fall when your planter flowers are done for the season, that soil and leftover flowers can go into the composter. Stir the composter goodies once in awhile and come Spring, you will have beautiful, black, healthy compost that you can mix in with fresh soil or spread around existing plants to give them a boost. Best of all, it is free and you are recycling your kitchen vegs.

Looking good. Love hostas. By far my favorite for landscaping. I have a giant elephant ear that is probably 5ft in diameter. I like river rock so I can use my leaf blower in it. Weeds are an issue at times though even with a weed barrier mat.

I usually use a spading fork for this....minimizes root damage and creates rough sides in the new hole. (I know Hostas are tough) And a home made serrated knife, not shovel, to cut divisions. (the knife I use is an old chef's knife and used a triangular file to cut serrations. works better than a spade.)

Nessa, I've used garbage bags in my vegetable garden. The bags seemed to work very well. I believe you'll get some weeds regardless though from seedlings that drift and land on the top side of your barrier. Just my thoughts.

Good work Allyn, landscape looked really clean there. I have 2 euonymus (sp?) plants side by side to each other. I would like to transplant one to the other side of the house. How well do these plants take to it? Take care
@Thelawncarenut
@Thelawncarenut 8 жыл бұрын
+tuffnugly454 they will do fine. You can move them now if temsp where you live will stay above 50 for the next 4 weeks. Otherwise wait until spring

I love the hostas, but looking at your beds, I have a question on another topic. About 20 years ago, I made beds like yours with small decorative pebbles. I have weed block under it, but after so many years, all I do is pick weeds. I’d like to redo the beds. I know it will be a huge project because of the rocks. I am envisioning, removing all the rocks with a shovel (ugh) and placing them on a tarp in the driveway. I feel like I then need to wash them somehow to remove all of the weed pollen to prevent regrowth. Am I correct? How would you wash the rocks? How would you redo your beds? Additionally, what type of weed block do you use under your pebbles?

Can u talk a lil bit more about weed blocker cloth on ur next video? I've used a few kinds of cloths and weeds go right thru. Some people suggest using garbage bags?!? Or newspaper. Any suggestions would be great thx!
@Thelawncarenut
@Thelawncarenut 9 жыл бұрын
NessaT419 I've had the same issue over the years. The weeds will grow inside the mulch or rock that is on top of the weed block, so there really is no way to stop weeds 100%. The key is to stay on top of the ones that do grow. Once they multiply it can get away from you.
