Gbguns is highly underrated and does the most thorough explanation and testing. Also Who Tee Who is another good one. He doesn't post as much but most of his content is great and he covers everything. Plus if you have a suggestion for any content you wanna see, he always responds to his fans in the comments. Overall nice guy.

The max 9 has been in my carry rotation for about a year now. It’s my work carry and I’m a jman electrician. The finish from holster wear, sweat etc. is my main gripe. Had the trigger upgraded, after 1300 rounds the only “malfunction” has been the slide not locking back after the last shot.

Thank you. One of my daughters carries the Max 9 and has for a couple years. We are quite pleased with it. The front sight is very very easy to acquire quickly. Trigger is good but could be a shorter reset. She carried a Shield for a few years and liked the trigger better. Hundreds of rounds through the Max9(115 brass and aluminum & brass 124 + some 124+p HST) not a hitch. My wife may trade her Shield 45 for a Max9 some day.

The slide rattle is a good thing. It's the striker channel moving freely. If you don't have a slide rattle in a glock or Ruger, the striker channel liner and striker are gummed up.

Another excellent video.. I have both of these as well as a Shield Plus and really like them all.. The Taurus has the best feeling grip in my hands but I wish it had a thumb safety even though I am not a fan of them but in this case a pocket gun with a single action trigger it would be a good addition.. I did not like the factory trigger on the Ruger so I installed a Galloway Precision flat-faced trigger which is a major improvement.

I have both of these and carry them everyday depending on my mood. The Ruger is a perfect candidate for the Ruger Ready dot that runs on fiber optics and no battery making it a great daytime carry. The GX4 accepts the TLR-6 and a wide variety of dots for the T.O.R.O. version. Topped with a CYELEE makes it a great affordable carry option for night time or all day

Early in 2023, I was on a search for a new carry pistol. Three important criteria for me were concealability, capacity & economy (didn't have a big budget to work with). I narrowed it down to the Max9 and the GX4. I owned Rugers and hadn't own a Taurus at that point. So I wanted to like the Ruger. And when it came to the sights, the Ruger Max9 was the clear winner. As far as concealability was concerned, it was a draw. But... ...the Max9 rattle was something I just couldn't dismiss, no matter how hard I tried. So the Taurus got the edge on the Ruger in the fit & feel category. Though the capacity comparison was close, here too the Taurus won the category. And the GX4 was the more economical option. In March of 2023, it sold for $325, if I recall correctly, and there was even a $50 mail-in rebate on it. Taurus was the clear winner, and the choice I made. It runs, and isn't too snappy, certainly manageable. It makes for a great pocket pistol; it rides in a DeSantis Gunhide Nemesis holster, #N38BJE1Z0 (covers the trigger guard, the draw is quick and smooth, and the holster stays put). It has been my EDC for 15 months. I enjoyed your video review. I would have enjoyed it even more if you had made this video a year earlier. 😏

I haven't tried the Max 9 yet but i've been carrying the GX4 for over a year now, and Taurus let me fix the drop-safe recall myself for a SDI class project. My GX4 has over 1000 rounds through it without a single issue, except once when I did a mud test (not on video) so that doesn't count. I don't mind the shitty finish because it's just a self-defense gun, not for showing off. PSA: If you unholster and reholster it a lot, the areas where the finish rubs off will start to rust. I fix that by rubbing a thin layer of synthetic motor oil on the slide each time I clean it.

Your description of the GX4 handle is making me want one even more. The G3c didn't fit my hand well until I bought a Hogue grip, so that's a plus to me. I've been thinking of the GX4 XL as a better option for concealment, but the Max 9 sure looks nice too. There are so many good micro compacts at similar price points, tough to chose one.

@@Ffs00911 What I want next now is the Kimber R7 Mako. It's thinner than the GX4 and has the handle hump I need to fit my hand. It's smaller than the G3c, yet has a longer barrel length and more capacity for the size. It's really not that much more money since it's optics cut and has better parts, making the Mako better in every way, except you lose the restrike feature for easy dry fire, but that's a fair trade off for a smaller gun that shoots with less snap.

This is the one Ruger that I can't stand behind and this is the one time I would probably go with the Taurus over the Ruger. I'm a Ruger Fanboy, it's my budget brand of choice so hear me out. I've owned every configuration of LCP including the LCP MAX and 22lr varient, I carried an lc9s for 5 years straight. It was my first carry gun. I put over 4,000 rounds through that gun before I retired it. For my Canik tp9 elite sc. I still own an ec9s and a red hawk chambered in 45 Colt. So I'm hear to say that in my opinion and in my experience the max 9 is a piece of junk. The tolerances on that firearm are sooooo loose it's unsettling. The 3! that I shot ran like a champs! and It was accurate, ergonomic enough, all of the controls were reachable, I definitely like the sights... But still... I've shot a lot of firearms in my day and I have never in my life shot a such reliable firearm that made me fee asl uneasy as the Max 9 did. Ruger can say they did that they did that on purpose all they want but all it really did was make me concern for the firearms longevity. That's all I can really say. I hope you'll at least understand that this comes from a place of experience with the brand. I now carry a shield plus. I won't lie I had a problem with the 12 round magazine right out of the box it would only hold 11 rounds out of the box. So I know that all brands have their problems. like I said the ones that I shot were 100% reliable there was just something unsettling about the loose tolerances for me. I really love your channel bro keep it up.

I put tritium sights on my GX4 and they're spot-on accurate. Since I don't have a sight pusher, I gently tapped it using a hammer and a small block of wood/2x4, and wrapped the slide with a shop rag. I also fixed the drop-safe issue by gluing (blue loctite) the firing pin block spring in place because it could come unseated and flip sideways...too much wiggle room. I've also dropped mine accidentally twice BEFORE the recall with no issue, and did several vigorous drop tests from every angle after fixing the recall. I literally trust my GX4 more than my Colt NM 1911.

My g2c is the best money ive spent on a gun and the sr9 was the worst. I would go with the gx4 toro. That ruger is really cool though. I own a ruger 10/22 rifle wood stock. Its my go to for when I just want to have fun or when i take new shooters. Great gun to learn how to shoot and its incredibly accurate. Semi reliable as long as it is clean and wet. 22lr ammo i think is the issue tbh. The quality over the years has been so shitty on alot of bulk 22. And its dirty. ❤ I shot my 10/22 about 500 rounds over 2 days in a basic marksmanship class (Appleseed foundation) it ran rough day two but i didnt clean or lube it at all after day one. Made it through the second day still and got to experience malfunctions in competition 😂 most fun ive ever had shooting in over ten years of shooting. Cmp service rifle matches are cool too. M16a2 or an m1 garand iron sights 100 yards designated timed courses of fire in different shooting positions. Really a good test of your skills as a marksman if you are a confident rifle shooter.

If I buy a Ruger or a GX4, I think I would automatically consider a bottle of Cerakote to be part of the expected cost. Bought some LCP parts for a friend recently that looked perfect (brand new) in the bag and although they weren't oily, I assumed that they were oiled and would be fine for at-least a week until I shipped them out and my friend received them... but I had them for 6 days and the entire surface of the slide was covered in rust by that time. Apparently the seller cleaned the parts and didn't oil them or something like that, because they rusted in the bag without it ever being unsealed. (...and I was certain that a slide could not rust sealed in a bag like that, because there's not enough oxygen to sustain continual corrosion like that). I know the GX4 won't rust like a Ruger at all, but that finish is so soft and gets damaged so easily that I just wouldn't trust it to protect the firearm (especially long term)... and I'm one of those people that loves original finishes and tried to never damage an original finish on a firearm unless it's really damaged/worn. These are probably the main guns I would strip a brand new, perfect, untouched finish off them and have them Cerakoted or refinished.

Have seen some Coyote and Tungsten one's for sale that I think were OEM, but I'm not sure. Now they have the Graphene coating and that could end up being one of the most durable coatings ever. I hope Cerakote starts working with graphene and Borophene too. They're two of the most durable materials ever and are far grater in strength compared to diamonds and just about any other material, natural or manmade.

I own both, and really like both. Ruger Max 9 really surprised me, being as good as it is. Ruger engineers confirmed to me that it's basically an LC9s with a face lift and double single stack mags for 10 rounds. I love the GX4 sights, they just draw your eye right to where they need to be. I wish the GX4 trigger was a little less heavy on the wall, but it's nice and defined as you said. Just heavy. Also own a P365XL, a Glock 43 that runs 8+1 reliably and remains OEM magazine pinky size , and just got the GX4 Carry. G2C, G3C, and a G3, I like Taurus guns, too. I love these little guns that are awesome. Your review is pretty decent, sir. I would recommend against dropping that slide on empty; yeah it probably won't hurt most guns, but it's akin to rocking or slapping the cylinder closed on a wheelgun. It's not ideal. Don't get mad, just saying.

Yeah dropping the slide on empty is nothing like whipping the cyclinder closed on revolver…..totally safe to do. It would be useless otherwise the recoil would destroy the slide.
@PTurbo86
@PTurbo86 6 ай бұрын
@@VetSGT I'd still argue that it's not really the intent of the design. Stripping a round reduced the slide's forward velocity a bit. Of course, the gun is designed to do it, when it's loaded. I get the differences of a cylinder crane with torsion stresses being put on it, being very different from steel slamming forward into steel. Most guns probably can do it, but I try to avoid it, if I can. Of course, you're free to do it however you wish.

With everyone carrying 13+ capacity revolvers are truly no longer logical to EDC, unfortunately. Kimber makes a good snub though, and the judge is a whole lotta fun (from Taurus)

I like the GX4 better than the Ruger, and I trust it enough to use it as my EDC. Also, you did great with handling the guns....UNTIL you picked up the GX4 to drop the mag...Then it all went to Hell after that! LOL! Just joking! I like your videos and I seldom ever miss one. Keep 'em coming!

I HAD the Taurus GX4 and it was disaster. Sent it back to Taurus four times in which they fixed those related problems. However after getting it back the fourth time, the dam thing misfired twice. GX4 is now gone!!! By the way I also have a G3c which has been flawless for over 2 1/2 years...

I choose the Taurus G3C over the Ruger Max-9 because Ruger puts in a skinny, flimsy looking trigger, I much prefer a fatter trigger like the G3C has. All of Ruger's Polymer pistols seem to have skinny, weak looking triggers, the only Ruger carry I really like is the LCP Max, probably the best .380 mouse gun ever. But 9mm fired from a little pocket gun sucks, loads of recoil and a serious lack of accuracy. Better to do .380 in the sub-gun department and save the 9mm for the mid sized pistols. And another thing I hate about Ruger's guns is the lousy 3-dot sight system, a Glock style 3-sided square or an all black rear notch with a white dot front is a far-far better sight picture. I love Ruger's revolvers, they're the best.... but their polymer pistols SUCK, except for the LCP-Max.
