First off you would never even reach gear 5 if you had the fruit because of it needing years worth of training You wouldn’t get gear 4 because no one would be able to teach you haki it even if it was real You wouldn’t get gear 2 because your body would be too weak to handle it At best you might be able to use gear 3 But at the same time you wouldn’t even be able to use the fruits power like pistol because of you needing good aim and be strong enough to stretch it Luffy literally had to train at 4 years old almost nonstop just to be able to aim his arm years later

There are unspecified conditions that need to be met in order to awaken it tho. One of which is dying with a relatively intact body i.e. no hearth popping, decapitation,etc. Just this one condition alone is daunting enough. Couple that with the other conditions that have been alluded to, but never outright said and only a small fraction of people would actually ever be able to awaken it. In its unawakened state, it's not all that useful. Luffy himself already having a monstrous physique owing to his bloodline which made it possible for him to swing his limbs with enough force to stretch them several meters away. Gear 2nd lowers your lifespan (or so we've been told), gear 3 requires insane innate physical prowess and gear 4 is impossible without Haki. I guess you'd be bullet proof and immune to electricity, but that's about it. Armor piercing rounds and shrapnel would still go right through you tho, and missiles, flamethrowers,etc would still be enough to kill you.
