I’m grateful for your compassion to pts and explaining what’s going on. It helps to not feel like a science experiment, especially when strapped down and vulnerable.

As a patient, and someone who knows about the medical field, in particular ICU, I can tell you, from experience, the Spontaneous Awakening Trial can be TERRIFYING for us patients! I've woken off of 45 mcg/kg/min of Propofol, and all the sudden, I'm being woken up to nurses calling my name, and finding out I have a Femoral Art Line, and a Right IJ Line, and am on Vasopressin, and Norepinephrine. THAT WAS TERRIFYING!! Here's what us patients want! If we're in the Stryker InTouch Bed, PLEASE, Put the music function in the I-Bed Menu on for us! PLEASE, let us hear beautiful classical music! PLEASE! Give us our oral care Q 2 hrs! Suction our Mouth out, and do what has to be done to prevent VAP! Please! Let us know that we're being cared for! And for me, tell me that I'm on the Mode Volume Control, and Tell me what my settings are on the vent! PLEASE! Tell us that our families are coming to see us, and that we're going to be OK! I'm a long term home ventilator patient. And I recently woke up in ICU after they had to put me on Propofol to stop my Seizures! Waking up the next morning, and hearing that I was flown to the University by Hellicopter! I was on Propofol for the rest of the night, and was woken up around 1:00 the next afternoon! My friend Joshua was there, and he reassured me that I was doing ok, and he helped me communicate when I couldn't speak, and they wouldn't let me deflate my trach cuff to speak. He gave me his phone to write to the nurses! I couldn't yet see well enough to type because I was still waking up, but just that step he took to try to help me communicate, meant a lot! Waking up in ICU IS SCARY! But my friend turned on my music on the InTouch bed for me, as He's been in ICU with me before, and knows how to go to the I-Bed Menu, and turn on Sound Therapy! So, PLEASE, even if we've only been on Propofol for one night, or two nights! When we wake up, and are confused and afraid, Reassure us! Tell us you're there with us, and that you'll give us good care!

My mother's organs were failed purple with holes, she was cut from chest to pelvis, and surgeon said she was 100% non survivable. We were told my mother was going to ICU for pain management and comfort. I was told they could lower her meds if my family wanted to communicate. We said do not lower meds. Without our knowledge my mother woke struggling and horrified. It was horrible. Dr. Gretchen Suarez and Nurse Sara Ellington chose to do the spontaneous awakening trial on my mom. They did not monitor her during this and my family had to run to hall for help. The nurse comes in smiling saying she lowered my mom's morphine. Now I'm being told it was unfortunate and they will educate staff. This happened at Bethesda North Hospital in Montgomery, Ohio. I have turned them into nursing/medical board and both are still working in the ICU. This trial is not meant for dying patients and it is a very Inhumane trial. My last memory of my mother is of her suffering. She literally looked like a dying fish and her face was horrified. I can not imagine the pain she felt. I am asking people to fight against this trial as they use it on children too. My mother's last moments were her being used as a lab rat when she was suppose to be comfortable.

If you haven’t already, can you do a video on what the icu nurse needs to know concerning the ventilator. I start in the ICU in February and I know the basics and what all of the levels mean etc. but when I step on the floor I want to be able to pull it all together. I can’t see the whole picture yet or I’m just complicating it. 😬
