I only learned about this last week. Julie Andrews was not yet committed for the part of Mary Poppins. She did not like the song that was written for her, believing it did not have enough snap to it. The original song was called "The Eyes of Love". Walt Disney instructed the Sherman Brothers to come up with something more catchy. Robert Sherman, the primary lyricist of the duo, arrived home from work one evening, having worked all day trying to come up with a song idea. As he walked in the door, his wife, Joyce, informed him that the children had gotten their polio vaccine that day. Robert asked one of his children if it hurt (thinking the child had received a shot). The child responded that the medicine was put on a cube of sugar and that he swallowed it. Realizing what he had, Robert Sherman arrived at work early the next morning with the title of the song "A Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down". Sherman suggested the lyric to his brother, Richard, who was at first dismissive but slowly came around. At his brother's behest, Richard put melody to the lyric, and with that, the song was born

I watched the Disney Movie (Saving Mr.Banks ) of the making of Mary Poppins, and they were in the studio when the song was made. The scale goes up on "makes the medicine go down" and down on. "a spoon full of sugar". The brothers are lyrical genius'.

Of course it is! This song gave A LOT of people this idea! It is also where Gummy Vites founder, Kate Jones got the idea for gummy vitamins! Her own kid would not take regular chew-able vitamins- and she know that Just a Spoonful Of Sugar Makes The Medicine(and vitamins) Go Down, so put the vitamins in a gummy, SNAP! the job,of taking your vitamins s a game, or in this case, treat!

Mary Poppins is secretly one of Doctor Who's new incarnations. She can fly, her bag is a bigger on the inside than the outside. She never stays longer than she is needed, always helping those who need it. I'm sure theres more possible evidence but still interesting possibilities.

one of the most accurate historical documents known to man :) I sung this song to my friend the other day she was VERRY angry. I like to think perhaps she was reflecting upon the chimney maintenance strike of 1912. And those my children were dire times.

Watching this as a kid, I remember practicing snapping my fingers fervently, and even though I got it I always thought I wasn't an adult because it din't sound as loud as 0:06. That was dumb.
