It is very interesting how this song contrasts from “Feed the Birds” in a historical context. Mary Poppins is indirectly singing, “Help those who need it and you will be glad if you do.” This piece is singing, “Help fund our colonialism and you’ll be a part of the Empire!”

Might be a forced comparison, but I've always noticed the text of this song echoes... Saint Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians, Chapter 13, the "Hymn to Charity": "(1)If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. (2)And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. (3)If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. (4)Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated, (5)it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, (6)it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. (13)So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love." Don't know if the reference is volountary, but to me there's something. As a practising Catholic, I must say something of this movie has always resonated with me; and it might be that, for all the flaws we can have, we always can and must overcome them to do better for us and the others. I really find hearthwarming the love story between Robin and Marian because she actually is supportive of her beloved one, and can see he actually want to be helpful to the others; even thought he might not always choose the correct means, she wants to see the final goal and is ready to give up her privileges to stand for their cause, and to help the others. It's a very deep, meaningful kind of relationship, so much than everything else I've ever found in any other Disney movie (must admit, this one and "Fantasia" are the only ones I've ever actually enjoyed - Even as a kid, I was much more into documentaries than anything else!). I've practically grown up with this movie, and just now I'm realizing just how many things it taught me. It's just I've always dismissed them - Up until now that I've realized, they were much truer than I wanted to admit.

Great advice on how to save money 💰 This is a great lesson for our young children. I think that money 💰 should be something that children need to be taught at a young age. David Tomlinson and Dick Van Dyke Senior did an amazing job in this movie on teaching children about money 💰

still remember i shared this with the man i loved. the love of my life when i was younger....before our 7 years were up. i changed a lot, we both did, and we couldn't stay together even though there was still love. life is truly brief and love really does go on and on....even when they're not there. now i'm just trying to move through that love that lingers to create new memories someday down the road.

Don't the bank sack the children's Dad following the debacle of everyone suddenly wanting to withdraw all their money which all steamed from the boy not wanting to hand his money over to the old dude and causing a massive scene? But then the old dude dies within a few days of all that happening and they turn round and offer him his job back - BLOODY CHEEK!!!

Now, some people say Mr. Dawes senior is greedy and ruthless. But there is one thing I see that’s perfectly human about him: he was trying to make sure order was kept in the bank: hence what made him angry with Mr. Banks and his children when the bank run chaos happened (even when he started it by snatching Michael’s pennies without asking).

One of my favorite Disney movies as a kid in the 90s. If you want a random fact that’ll make you smile, watch Fantastic Mr Fox (right when Christopherson comes into their lives) and hear this song being played on the mother’s radio while she’s painting her landscapes. That little addition to a movie also about foxes brought me a lot of joy rewatching FMF last night. 🙌🏼
