Hi Brad! My advice is apply the lessons learned from sports cards to investing in stocks and cryptos. Holding long term is the key. I bought hundreds of Kobe, Lebron, KD rookie cards 10 years ago ($1-2 per card, and yes Topps chrome were also $20 each). Cashed out and sold my duplicates last year, invested that money in stocks and cryptos, grew that even more, bought a rental property. Now I am able to cut down on my 9-5 job and financially reward my family. I also started a YT channel in the process and will share what I learned too. Keep on learning and keep on growing!

My advice for new people is to treat this as a hobby and not an investment. If you hear about an amazing investment sports card, it is probably a flipper pumping their inventory. All the success stories are from 2020 up to the first quarter in 2021. I flipped my way into a collection worth over $100,000 and made a few thousand in profit. I started in 2020. Those days are gone now. If you are jumping into vintage because SCI is saying how great it is, research before spending even $1. The grade doesn't matter as much in vintage as the eye-appeal does.

I don't like to treat my sports cards as investments. It's my hobby. If the cards go up, great but if not -- they still remain in my collection. Being an introvert, I do mostly like to keep to myself. I don't get advice and I usually don't give advice (mostly because no one takes it and then I feel bad). If I was to say one thing: Find a niche you love. For me, it's cards that have a PSA pop of 10 and under. But that's just me. Almost all my PSA 10's are low pop. I don't have a Jordan rookie, but I have a pop 1 Jordan. I don't have a Mantle rookie, but I have pop 1 Mattingly. Things like that make me happy. And if you want stock market advice, take a look at FNF. Boring company but the boring ones are often overlooked..... Also, can you do a video on the 5x7 cards? I love those cards for some reason. And stick to one or two sports. There simply isn't enough time in the day to be an expert on all cards. I don't collect basketball cards. I have a few, I understand b-ball probably drives the market but I can't do it all. I have my fair share of b-ball cards, but I can't dedicate my time there. I stick to baseball and football and a few comics and rare books. Again, only because that's what fuels me. Don't try and become an expert on everything because you will end up an expert on nothing. I also never collect pitchers or quarterbacks -- shelf life on their careers are too short and it kills your ROI if you invest in them and they are a bust (see B. Taylor, M.Bush, Baker, Leaf, Haskins, Manziel).

I'm glad you still focus at the start on the basics of collecting. Don't spend money you don't have and make sure you still have fun with it. Some of my favourite cards are like $2 cards I bought of some of my favourite players. Spending more money doesn't always mean you'll enjoy the card more! And yes, if you're new, please do your research and make sure you don't overpay for anything. I saw a Reddit post recently where a guy decided to get into basketball cards and dropped $17K on a bunch of stuff and really didn't do his research on what he was buying, what popular brands were, the differences between all the parallels, what the population reports were etc. Yes, he got some good cards, it also looked like he overpaid for some of it too. Things like an Donruss Orange Laser LaMelo look cool, but for an investment purchase it's probably not going to get you far. As a singular purchase it may be fine, but when you're buying a ton of those slabbed at PSA 10 it adds up quick!

Buy what and who you like first - develop your PC and enjoy the hobby. If opportunities for a value buy come along, do your research and buy with the intent to potentially hold if the market slows or downturns temporarily. Don't buy on credit, if you don't have the cash, you have nothing - buy from disposable income, not your rent $. And, for the love of everything holy, don't listen to You Tube hype guys who know only a fraction more than you do about what is the next great buy or sell - their agenda is not aligned with yours - ever

Im glad you pointed out the chipotle burrito foil style cards . I purchased a box of Select and they were terrible quality control. All of the edges were practically non existent. They are just crinkly poorly cut cards. I liked the chronicles so much more. I just recently got back into card collecting and haven’t ever been a “hardcore “ collector. I just use to buy a pack of cards at the gas station then get together with some family or friends and trade for players I liked not because of the card’s value but rather my own personal favorite players .

I'm gonna give an alternative story here I bought a Justin Jefferson base RC Panini Mosaic for $3. I paid a total grading cost with shipping of $17. Total investment $20. The same card in a 10 which I also got as a grade cleared over $100 on ebay yesterday in an auction sale. Pick good players and don't be stupid and this isn't that difficult. You won't win em all but you can win more times than not.

Great stuff, Brad. I'd throw out the following: Understand that autographs and rookie cards carry premiums even raw. Also learn which brands carry a higher price tag for the "brand" (think Topps Chrome & Finest/Prizm in NBA/Topps in MLB/Upper Deck in NHL, etc.) Know your budget and decide if you want to buy raw, buy graded, or a mixture of both. Remember too that from roughly 1987-1993, it was the "Junk Wax" era across all sports and that doesn't change over time. The PSA/BGS/SGC/CGC pop reports tell a very limited story of the print run but when estimations are, literally, a million+ of a single base card from 1990 or 1991, don't overpay for that rookie in a PSA 10 just because it's a "low" pop count number. Pop counts can change radically and unless it's serial numbered or there's a source for an estimation of the print run, it's very hard to guess a print run.

Over the last 30 years of collecting I've found if I buy what I think is cool there is a good chance someone else will think it's cool too down the road. The people who made the most are the ones who collected for years and already had many of these cards when they started to rise. That is where I made my biggest profit. I rarely sell but prices got to crazy so I just had to sell some because I couldn't resist.

what your saying Reminds me of the NASCAR 1/24 die-Cast car market in the late 90's (I was collecting since 93 ish).... I was buying Banks because they were more rare than the cars. Even though most collectors liked the cars.... I also collected Cards too but the late 90's is when all the companies started to flood the market with cards to compensate for the amount of Fans doubling in that time. They ruined the Die Cast and card market because of that too..Then each Driver started to do 3, 4, 6 different paint schemes ..then I wasn't buying one 1/24 car anymore a year for each driver I liked it was 30 I had to buy.... I completely stopped buying Die cast, Cards and all sports memorabilia in 200 cause of the flooded market. In 2015 I sold all the beautiful die cast cars for like 800. bux. a sad day. Ebay doesn't help either...we used to drive to stores to collect, now ya go on line and find many of what your looking for. That ruined the scarcity of the hobbies. I'll stop now I can go on forever...lol

I disagree that PSA is the safest investment. PSA is so hyped right now that, even if you believe they deserve their high ranking (I don't), there's very little upside. A PSA 10 will only rise as the overall value of the particular card rises. However, SGC and CSG are growing in reputation, while their slabs remain relatively low. As SGC and CSG continue to grow, their slabs will as well. CSG slabs, in particular, are very low right now, and they are proving to grade very tough. I agree that non sports is a great place to look. Don't buy what's hot, because what's hot will cool. Basketball has been a roller coaster, while hockey and non sports cards have been steadily rising because their fan base is an actual fan base, not flippers jumping on the next craze.

@@TheComebackCardInvestor There is a reason that your cards don't get a 10. The grading companies must see something. PSA seem to give out a lot more 10's than other grading companies. Should we be rewarding them for not seeing something that others see ? I think not. 20 years from now, everybody will remember who gave out 10's and people will wonder, how legit is this when you go to sell them. I won't buy a PSA graded card because I don't trust them.

Have a nice balance of cards and don't buy too many young unproven players in any sport. The longer you hold everything, the more likely you are to succeed, but just know growth is exponential for the top. Lebron, Brady, Kobe, Jordan, etc, will grow much more than others who may go to 0. It's a massive gamble no matter what you pick, so try and limit your risk by spending a bit more on proven players and you'll be fine. Remember that this isn't the stock market, so if you don't want to hold cards for years potentially, don't buy, there are no guarantees.

I think PSA should lock their doors for sending in more cards to get graded until they have caught back up, then re-lower their prices again and reopen for sending in cards again. And I think SGC should be looked at in a nice way because of the look of the slab and cards in the slab. But also looked at as no different as prices as a PSA or Beckett no matter what the grading company it's from. A 10 is a 10, a 9 is a 9 or 9.5 is no different then a Beckett 9.5, the only difference is a Beckett black label is higher then a 10 of any grading company then prices of the black label is higher then any graded card in a slab. I am really new to this collecting and i'm not shy to say i am on ODSP here in London Ontario Canada and I can't even afford any really high priced raw cards I am only left with $460.00 I have to live buying food, bus pass and cellphone bill so it doesn't leave me with much to buy good cards and spending money to get them graded so that I can sell and make a profit.

I have watched several dozens of these sports card investing channels. Almost every single one has horror story about cards that they sent in to be graded and they came back with a low number. They took all of the necessary steps to make sure that they got a good grade and still got crap. To suggest that someone can get better grades on their submissions by practicing is a ridiculous assumption. Also, very expensive Do not promote this nonsensical notion. If you want a certain card in a certain grade, buy it. Do do otherwise is ridiculous.

Yo Brad great video man! I think you covered most things nicely here. Can’t believe how much has changed in 2 years. I honestly feel psa shutting down literally killed the market. It pushed all the flippers out along with all the hype. It was fun while it lasted. I however now have a decent pile of cards that I lost a lot of money on. Great learning curve though. I still dabble in cards but look for more older proven players. Hope the new pad is treating you well mate! 👍👊

hey Leigh. Great to hear from you! Yeah man I'm loving the pad and we both have some lousy investments we're left with. Oh well. It's still fun AF! Have a great week brother!

I would not buy any cards that are in Newly released premium product. early in season product. players get injured and then your card plumets. Or no OL you see the QB he's not that great in those years. Buy cards that you say this person will be a HOF someday. Fred MCgriff among others comes to mind. Tough card to get nice. If he quit 4 years earlier or hit 7 more HR he would be in already. Also clutch post season player. I have my best 3 which I keep to myself. still a very good investment. But TO HARD TO BUY RAW. they always have problems. it is priced low now for some reason. For slabbed cards. Unslabbed are on point for condition. You may get lucky to buy one for $12 not slabbed that will be a 9 or 10. But rare to find. tough one to find great around the edges. A psa 9 is awesome just got one for $48 delivered bidding. I won't just buy it slabbed not in auction. the asking price you will have to pay more like $70. And a bccg 10 at just $90 right now on eBay. No other TENS for sale in any company. Not on eBay at least. I want to save to get what I really want. But it seems shockingly low to me I may buy that now. Crack it if it gets a 9 you lose $25. they grade tough 8 of 10. Come back the same grade or higher. 1 of 30 or so I bought came back 1 grade lower. Every 10 came back a 10. So great chance to make $450+. Psa 10 is in the $600 range. Looks like I have to grab that under priced $90 one. There are not many for sale which is your first biggest clue. That people aren't as interested and it is the best time to grab them before they have their next television special about the Hall of Fame.
