I love how this therapist is so focused on stages and progressions of therapy and exercises. So many on KZfaq and in the real world just throw exercises out there without appropriate staging.... So many injuries have been caused by this indifference.

I had a fall onto my shoulder (corner of low level heavy table). I am an otherwise very fit 80+. Do I get any competent help from Hampshire NHS Trust - what a joke! Apparently according to Government guidelines my injuries can be solved by steam telephone conversations from both a consultant and his 'very fine' physio team. Seen nobody - had no proper diagnosis. Maybe I should already have died of something! Good thing I am a bit smarter than they are and found this wonderful site. Even little professional asides like the influence on the biceps. I lost one half of my biceps due to GP incompetence, so stuff like that was invaluable. Great site, we want more like this. Maybe I will get to play County Badminton at 90! Yes agree, sensible. professional and very well presented.

Thanks. Is there a followup for this for post surgery rehab? I don't really want to rely on the hospital rehab since it's very seldom sufficient for me. They simply do not understand my workout regimen. Amateur powerlifter with slap lesion here. Surgery in about 3 weeks. I have been trying to perform rehab for this problem for nearly a full year. Had some progress and some setbacks. This is a chronic shoulder problem going back years and probably related to a left bicep injury about 5 years ago that took 2 years to fully get past.

Did the surgery help? I have a similar background/issue to what you describe
@eschelar
@eschelar 3 жыл бұрын
@@Boyley I ended up skipping surgery and doing prolotherapy instead. It worked for my torn superspinatus, so far it has not been effective for the SLAP and there's another issue in the back somewhere that is too deep for the ultrasound to see, so I'm up for another MRI to evaluate. I think the surgery ultimately will not be necessary, but I do need to be patient. I'd rather wait a bit longer and just do some fat cutting with eventually reaching full healing without surgery than take surgery with the risks involved. It is proving to be challenging, but I am fortunate that I have a doctor that is tenacious and curious enough that he's looking to find a proper solution.

@sports injury physio . Can you tell me doctor that if a person has grade 1 slap lesion so is there is any time period to heal the labrum then start exercises or you just take rest and simultaneously along with do exercises ?
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 8 күн бұрын
2nd option - you start with gentle exercise quite soon after the injury. If the exercise is pitched at the correct level, it helps the shoulder heal.

Hi nice to see you respond. The question at hand is what are the protocols for rehab right after anterior humeral luxation and what are the progression phases protocols and the excersises for each phase. In my case I am 3 weeks out of my first ever shoulder luxation and x-ray diagnosis confirms have a bankart lesion (Dr told me it is not a big one and we can take a conservative route) I am still waiting for an ultrasound to get diagnose on the ligaments (universal health care backs everything up here in Aruba lol). I am a judo player 42 years old male and fit. I am aware that redislocation of my shoulder is a big probability now. I have always done injury preventive training so I considered my shoulders to be strong and it was very difficult for my shoulder to be reduced back into place 2 fysio therapist at judo practice than two doctors at emergency room. So I am very curios to see how you would help someone like me (I couldn't find a complete guide for or step by step protocol and phases and corresponding training). I understand the function of the four muscles of the rotator cuff and I am very much motivated to train my shoulder as much as possible to reduce the risk of redislocating and want resume training of judo back. Hope this can clarify and give you some context to work with.

I was recently diagnosed with slap lesion. doctor said surgery can only fix it. is that true? would giving it a try to physio first be wiser?
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Жыл бұрын
It depends a bit on the extent of the slap lesion - In the UK doctors usually tend to send patients for rehab first if it is not a too extensive lesion and they then often don't need surgery. If the rehab fails or the person is an overhead athlete etc., then surgery may be considered.

I had the surgery 8 weeks ago. Pretty annoying recovery. Your range of motion is very limited. I get random pains at different stages of recovery too. It makes me think I could of re injured the area during pt. For me, the hardest part is mental. I hope it’s just overall recovery pain. I got the surgery because working out, and physical activity is something I love and it was suffering.

I have quick question for you. I do workout too, tore my Labrum SLAP and my doctor told me that it can heal by itself through some physical therapy. My should has improved a lot, but still not fully recovered yet. It's been five months since June 4th. I am working out now but cannot lift as heavily as I was before. Wanted to ask you that what makes you to do surgery and are doing good now with working out?
@KELOC1
@KELOC1 8 ай бұрын
@@asafselevanay1330 pt only builds muscle around the injury and supports it. In my case.. I was still in pain. Couldn’t work out properly. Couldn’t do flys without pain. Cartalidge won’t repair itself on its own. I was depressed and now I’m happy. I was back to working out 4-6 months! I have some clicking, but feel great. If you can live the injury, might not be a bad idea. But I could not.. I found a great surgeon I trust and couldn’t be happier. Just find a good surgeon you trust. Do lots of physical therapy. Trust the process and take your time. I won’t do bench pressing anymore. It’s dangerous and put lots of stress on the shoulders.
