You should've asked Burkie what the fornication him and Hextall was thinking when they traded for Mikael Granlund, a player not suitable for Mike Sullivans system, just after they got out of the Kapanen contract.

"We had hoped if we had some success we would be able to prolong our stay there, but it didn't happen." You and Hextall mismanaged the franchise so badly that they missed the playoffs for the first time in 16 years. I guess I should say Hextall because to this day not a single person seems to know what Burke even did in his time in Pittsburgh except collect a paycheck.

Burke is the great salesman....of himself. But his contributions to Leafs, Flames, Pens....minimal. Can't think of any hockey executive who has been paid so much for accomplishing so little. He's great on TV....he seems so smart, but when it actually as work as hockey executive, he hasn't had the will to work hard for years.

@@hockey_highlights_and_more actually he absolutely did not - Brian Murray built that team - Burke came in - with ready made and then Pronger fell into his lap because he had to get out of Edmonton - He just wasn't in the way . He built some pretty good teams in Vancouver.

@@benchow8851 No, his contract wasn't renewed. The Leafs allowed him to seek employment while still technically a Leaf employee. Admitting Dubas was probably shut out from the offices at MLSE after the Shanahan new conference.

Ok I love nylander, but y’all will be missing marner way more if he leaves. Flaws aside, marners a selke nominated 90-100 pt winger and one of the better penalty killers on the team. If he leaves that’s a massive loss

Funny how he blames a change of ownership for each of his firings. Everywhere he went the teams ended up driving themselves off a cliff. The Leafs never even made the playoffs once while he was at the helm. PS. His one Stanley Cup win was with a team he didnt build.

EAchank, Adam Oates had 156 career points in the playoffs and was well over a point-per-game pace until a couple of mediocre postseasons in his early 40s. The take that he wasn't a playoff performer is a myth.

This might be unpopular but I wish the pens would have kept Burke and just trashed Hextall. I think Burke and Dubas would be a great combo.

The mistake made by the Penguins is one that's too common in the league. They simply marry themselves to players to the point they are blinded when a reset is needed.

Makes sense for Matthews to maybe stall with Leafs (as did JT with New York) & then Matthews joins Dubas in Pittsburgh & Leafs get nothing when Matthews leaves. The same agent could maybe get great contracts for Matthews & Dubas in Pittsburgh.

Burke seems like a nice guy but he did absolutely nothing in Pittsburgh. He was a figurehead that made a lot of money that did nothing. If he helped with anything it was to help Hexstall run the boat aground.
