Fiala's goal was awesome, but can we talk about Rem Pitlick scoring his first career goal AND his first career hat trick in one game? He's only the 31st player in league history to do it. Sure felt like a hat pick to me - not to mention the fact that Ryan Hartman was the primary assist on all three goals, AND two of the goals were breakaways! I mean, holy cow.

As a goalie myself, during my game tonight I kept repeating the catchphrase "If you're a goalie, tend the goal" in my head. The result was a 7-0 win and first star of the game so it does work 🙂

The goal at 11:03... yes, I think Johnsson intended to "kick" the puck back to Mercer. It was out of desperation given the pass to Johnsson was in his skates and not on his stick. When I was 14 years old playing junior basketball, with a second or two left on the clock I threw the ball at the basket. It went in. I _intended_ the ball to go in but was it high percentage? I'd have to say that the answer is no. Was it amazing? That's a matter of definition. Bottom line is; these things do sometimes happen.

Steve, I know you and Drew both hate Minnesota, but the Hartman to Pitlick natural hat-trick for Rem’s first 3 goals in the NHL is a shoe-in Hat Pick. Especially if you are going to feature a rookie goalie get a shutout in his first game.

I was born when Gretzky retired in 99 so I did not get to see him play at all when I started to watch hockey, I remember Sundin playing with the leafs though as the captain so that was cool to experience as a kid until he retired.

@@loemont6584 My overall point is that difference between a .927 and a .929 is splitting hairs. It’s a difference of 2 goals per 1,000 shots. Likewise, a lot of the advanced metrics are subject to shot tracking bias, etc. so there’s definitely a margin of error there too

There's no way Johnsson kick returned that pass from mercer on purpose. Like it was impressive but he just happened to be perfectly in stride, if it was on purpose there would have been some sort of stride adjustment, even if tiny.

Watch him tilt his heel outward before it makes contact. It was perfectly in stride, which is extremely lucky, but he angled it back to pass on purpose.

@@1337slic3 He definitely tilts his heel but he tilts it AFTER the puck has already made contact. You can tell it's after, one because the video shows its after, but also because his front foot hasnt quite returned to the ice and he would need to shift his weight to that front foot in order to make that heel tilt with the back foot.

I was sitting just out of frame of the cameras behind the net for the Fiala goal. Such a sick goal I couldn't even be mad about that, plus Kahkonen made a great save fairly shortly after that on a backhand from Crouse. I'm just glad the Coyotes have cheap tickets, if my hometown team is gonna tank, I want to go to lots of cheap games.

Nobody should be sleeping on Evans, yeah he doesn't have the most points, but the dude runs a checking line, he's not expected to be more than depth scoring, and this was some insane depth scoring.

That's a truely amazing save because vas wasn't out of position, he had to be in two very different positions and he saw the play coming and made the save despite the distance he had to cover. It's the combination that is amazing.
