The leafs don’t have a Stanley cup level goalie or defense. The offense has a lot of skill but they lack the grit needed to produce 16 wins in the playoffs. I’ve been a leafs fan for over 40 years. There’s nothing here that makes me think this year we have a shot. We need a goalie, we need team defense, we need a leader, we need guys that would rather die than lose a puck battle.

When I was going through bad depression, my mother entered palliative care. It was the hardest thing to go support a loved one dying when I just wanted to die myself. I pushed myself hard, because this was my last moments with mom and she deserved to see me “happy”. I am so proud of myself doing that, I have no regrets and it helped me to come to terms with her passing. Put the effort in, work hard, because life will just fly by and all you’ll have left is your regrets and experiences.

I don't like the Leafs, I don't hate them. I want to see them win. But man. Watching this team is like watching the slowest moving train wreck you'll ever see in sports. ALL that money to four guys who can score, but play with ZERO heart or passion. And we're what, 7 playoffs and one series win. I love watching EVERYONE believe they can win; hoping beyond reason that they will; knowing they probably never will with this roster. I can't stop watching! It's like watching a teenager get hit by a car for 8 slow years.

No movement clause come with a lower salary - EXCEPT in Toronto where you get max dollars and a no movement clause.

Probably my biggest issue with these contracts. Show you're committed to the leafs by taking less, and you'll get your ntc. Otherwise I need to be flexible enough to make moves with a tight cap.

Why delude Leafs fans into hoping that trading for two top tier defensive defensemen and the return of Joseph Woll will right this sinking tugboat? Captain Tavares was benched for several shifts in the third period for lazy play. Nylander is in hibernation mode. Auston is worried his moustache might get rearranged if his face is smashed in, and Marner is pouting that Nylander will make more than him next season!

Mr Friedman, you're going to have to be more careful with pronunciation of names (i know i'm one to talk - they sound the same but they're spelled different) however, to not get confused between Gauthier and Gaucher. Anaheim has both, and in fact, Gaucher was a Memorial Cup winner and 2 x U20 Gold medal winner that apparently some teams have forgotten about???

I know it's popular to call for a coaching change when a team is losing but what more can Keefe do? He's tried it all and it hasn't worked. This team can't play within a structure under this coach. It's year 5 of Keefe, which is an eternity in pro sport. So let's go MLSE, do what you need to do and let's move forward. And while you're at it, take a good look at your president cuz it's 10 friggin years and you've won 1 round.

100% sell, even Matthews. Every single star they have is a one way, one dimensional, stat padding floater. Especially Auston Matthews. Tons of goals and points against Anaheim, but NEVER a single point in a tough game. I would take 1 Nathan MacKinnon over 3 Auston Matthews when it comes to winning. This team will be lucky to make the playoffs, and be gone immediately. Why not sell? But, considering the core all cannot be traded, who would they be selling? We all know the Leafs are coming out of this roadtrip in dire shape.

The Leafs had $60 million worth of guys on the ice with the empty net, and didn't get a shot on goal. Look... I'm a Wings fan, so I'm quite happy the good guys went in and won a game that started about an hour after their plane landed. That's a huge character win for the boys. But for the bigger question, I can't say whether the Leafs *should* be buyers at the deadline, but if they do? They currently have $35k in cap space. Granted, this number will change as the deadline approaches, but it'll be interesting to see which player is kicked off the island. I don't doubt the Leafs will make it, but will they make it past the first round again? My personal view is, the Leafs should really.re-tool and figure out their whole situation. When you look at that Leafs roster, look at the guys they have, they should be last-year-Bruins level of good right now. Such a high-powered, high-salary cast of characters, but they get teams they should be beating and just flubbing it. Last night's loss can't be blamed on Samsonov. He made some amazing saves. Meanwhile, the Leafs simply didn't take advantage of enough of their chances. They made 2023-2024 Reimer look like 2012-2013 Reimer. So, if they're serious about winning a cup with their core, that front office needs to make some decisions. This season? If there's not a real change of direction in the room, the Leafs are heading for another first round exit... only this time, the series might not even get to seven games.

Disagree about 67 and 85. Just because new teams came in doesn’t mean the athletes weren’t there. Especially in 67 every town in Canada had amateur hockey players who were better than nhl players and they chose not to play because the pay sucked or they were overlooked bc of bad drafting.

@@AlwayzFreshof that core four one showed up (Nylander), one got his brain crashed 5 minutes into the series - so what do you mean the world learned who this core was? Say "Marner and Matthews", be precise don't always paint inaccurate pictures. Willy and JT always played well in post season. Marner has a no move and you're not trading Matthews. Only thing they could've done (and should have) was fire the coach. Sheldon and Kyle were friends that's why it didn't happen. Bad luck.

I don't really understand this. The core are playing exceptional this year. Blame their contracts and management if you want but these guys are doing exactly what you are paying them for. This team is losing consistently in big spots because they don't have the depth neeeded to ice a competitive team for 60 minutes a night. The guys are playing well when we need them to but hockey is a 23 man game. Blame management for allowing this to happen but lets get real, 3 guys on 100+ point paces and one with a 70 goal pace is not the reason we are losing ON the ice consistently. Theyre not perfect but thats the reality.

Leafs players don’t deserve any upgrades this season. The best result would be to miss the playoffs and rub it in their faces every damn day. And the core four has to be broken up with at least one trade. I know the core have no moves but that’s very easy to get around. Healthy sit the ones you want to give the boot a few games to piss them off. Egos will void the no trade clause.

Leafs are built for regular season hockey. Leafs are not built for the much more physical grinding playoffs. Tweaking 1 or 2 players is not going to change the outcome.

Here's a very specific answer to the question in your thumbnail: We should sell. The leafs should trade Mitch Marner for one amazing defenseman and another really good defenseman, or an amazing defenseman and an amazing goalie. We could afford to do either... And don't get me wrong, I love Mitch Marner, but we don't want to trade Matthews or Nylander, and Tavares is near the end of his contract, so that wouldn't make sense. I'm not sure how else we can get out of this situation, but something has to give. I'm looking three or four years down the road and thinking we're going to be in the same situation as the San Jose Sharks. That will not be good as it is very difficult to charge almost $300 a ticket for a losing team... I'm just spitballing here, but if we don't do something significant and soon, we're going to be having the same conversation in April that we have had for most of the last 17 Aprils... Thoughts, comments, questions, concerns?

This team knows it had to trade either Marner or Nylander and they chose, so going forward Tavares will be gone and Marner will be gone . You keep Mattews and Nylander , Reilly. The rest are expendable. With the Marner trade you get your defence or high draft pick in the 2024 or 25 draft.

Seriously people hate the Leafs with good reason. We gave the players the keys to the Kingdom without winning anything, they show zero heart, they blame the coaches, it’s the refs, etc. wake up and look in the mirror. Nobody except Reilly was willing to take a team friendly deal. AM does nothing against elite competition time and time again. Guy is gonna be the highest paid player and isn’t in the top 10 in scoring. Honestly if this team keeps meandering I hope they just stand pact or even become sellers to show these no heart, overpaid babies that they need to dig deep if they think management should go out to get them help. We have bled the coffers dry and need to reset and rebuild this team with a proper D corp and depth.

Leafs are 6th in the division in regulation wins just one more regulation win than Ottawa. Compared to the rest of the league they are 25th in regulation wins. Paying half your cap to 4 forwards was, is and always will be a huge mistake going into the playoffs.

Not a Leafs fan but the core is the least impressive I've ever seen insofar as all the intangibles go i.e. character/heart--not a crew that seems to have pride in wearing that jersey--Corporations are really lousy at thinking outside the box but IMO they need a culture change and that starts with upper management

sell sell sell .. time to rebiuld .. this team is headed south, and falling apart .. shanahan was a great player but he's the worst Pres in the league .. keefe is the worst coach, and MLSE are the worst owners in the league .. therefore the Leafs are not well constructed, terribly put together actually .. the Leafs need everything new from ownership down .. proof is in the pudding, the writing is on the wall .. well, if you want to win in the playoffs that is ..
