Mogilny paved the way for other Russian players like Bure, Fedorov, etc. But Mogilny was the first with the balls to make this move. Imagine if Mogilny wasn't drafted. A buddy and I went to see a Sabres/Kings game in the early 90's. Afterwards we hit the bar strip for a few. As soon as I walked in I see a guy at the bar with a lady on each side of him and he's having a cigarette. It was Mogilny. He didn't play that night for whatever reason. Then about a half hour later in walks a bunch of Kings players and Gretzky as well. Soon the Buffalo Jills were there too. What a night. Can't believe we got back over the border.

AMAZING!!! Simply put, the best international intrigue story, either fictional or the truth, ever told!!! The courage of everyone involved is immense!!! It blows me away that a TEENAGER would exhibit such trust in a foreign nation, not to mention the biggest enemies amongst nation's in HUMAN HISTORY!!! As a lifelong Buffalo Sabres fan(because I played goalie for the best competitive team in the state-[Utah, I know, not the ice hockey juggernaut Ottawa, or Toronto is, but still] and The Sabres drafted Tom Barrasso straight out of HIGH SCHOOL!!!) I must say, the line of Pat La-La-Lafontaine, Dave Andreychuk, and Alexander Mogilny are, in my opinion, the greatest line in Sabres history!!! Better than the FRENCH CONNECTION (although those two lines are among the top 3(!!!) in all of hockey history)... Anyway, this video is amazing, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR MAKING IT!!!

There was a fascinating piece CBC did prior to game 1 of the ‘96 World Cup Of Hockey (yea I realize 🇨🇦 didn’t win - thanks for nothing Mike Richter). It focused on the divide in the ‘current’ (back in ‘96) 🇷🇺 program. It looked at the forced reuniting of players who defected from the USSR and those who didn’t, leading to fractioning of their national program. (As of writing - July 1, 2023 - USSR/RUS is currently 1-13 in best on best tournaments all time.)
